Back when I was knee-high to a grasshopper, I played bass guitar at a place called the Paradise on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. I went to see them boys play there one night with my brother. We talked to Rudy Sarzo in the elevator, and he was very down to earth with his head in the right place, strictly business. A true working musician! We partied with Carlos and Frankie “RIP“. Carlos was very informative about the business he told us a lot of real facts about what goes on. Frankie said he had only Been playing for a year. He was damn good for only playing one year! We got autographs from everyone but the singer.

Jeff, that shop behind the hoisting works looks like it may have been steam driven, big wide flat belts. The machine in the far corner,, I did not get to look at it,, and yes I saw the electric motor mounts,,,, but there is something ion the alignment that is tickling me. Steam? Possibly a huge old diesel? Before a shift to electric? Shift to electric,,, Hoover dam completion?

Great to see these old mine heads and winding wheels, having grown up in a mining town (coal) in the Uk I find the history quiet interesting, the Geology is handy to know too, finding lots of shale and mica locally around some old lead mines, got me thinking there could be some gold in these here hills!

@@Askjeffwilliams They say the old timers in Australia used the oil from Eucalyptus leafs, the powder? since it has arsenic and cyanide in the leafs, they were able to soak their crushed ore in that stuff to leach out the gold? could you do a presentation on that information? the roots of those trees can go 150ft deep and the gold would be absorbed into the trees bark, leafs, branches, everything... could burn the sample of leafs to see gold content without having to dig...or something along them lines?

Hi Jeff, heard a lot about you from Dan Hurd and Shane at Kleash Guitars. So I thoughts better come see what I’m missing😊 I use to prospect a lot when I lived in California, but now I live in Michigan so I don’t prospect because I got spoiled with the gold in California. But I metal detect now but the best news is I’m moving back to California because all my family is there. I have to wait till my twins graduate high school in 2020. Then I will be back in California in August or September of 2020. I can’t wait to get back to gold prospecting. Sorry for the long history of my life....lol I’ll be watching and commenting on your videos👍👍👍

Look at the big transformer Jeff pointed out. That tells me they we sending high voltage electricity a long way to the mine. The transformer then stepped down the voltage so the equipment could use it. My bet is they built a coal fired power plant next to the closest rail line so that coal could be brought to the plant. They then strung wires many miles across the desert from the power plant to the mine.

Thank you Lucky and Glenn, for the vivid and knowledgeable renderings of the “Bigger Picture” of what likely went on in Pioche.
It’s darn hard to imagine just how robust, creative, and ambitious these individuals were who designed and operated these mines. I am always awestruck when I ponder it.
Thanks Jeff, for showing us an operation that is more intact, so we moderns can gain a tiny feel at least for the scope of what transpired in the Wild West of Nevada!

I was in Pioche years ago. I had a great time exploring. At the hotel, I fell down an entire flight of stairs. I remember slipping on the top step coming down. The next thing I remember was waking up by someone opening a door and hitting me over 3 hours later. Date: Friday the 13th!
