KGNS's only competition was KVTV 13, satellite of KZTV 10 in Corpus, but a few years later KLDO 27 would sign on as the ABC affiliate. Today KLDO is Univision, and KGNS again offers "two great networks" via digital channels (NBC 8.1, ABC 8.2).
One thing I know about Laredo is that it does not have its own PBS affiliate. After KLDO became Univision, watching ABC in Laredo was scarce without cable.

Wow when news was real btw the sports guy Bill Vessey is in neighboring Corpus Christi and is now a meteorologist for one of the Tv stations there and has been for sometime now.
I cannot believe I work with one of these anchors today, in a completely different field. This is amazing. It was a whole different world.
