There's an irony to Bowie covers... They have a sense of musical theatre-style singing to them. That highly enunciated, rangey yet vocally soulless feel. The irony is that Bowie himself is quite clearly highly influenced by Anthony Newley's theatre voice. Take away the pomp and all the enigma of Bowie the man and you're left with songs that, in order to copy Bowie, the most accurate way to copy is musical theatre.
