Thank you so much for this reaction video . I am Creadel (Red) Jones granddaughter 🙏🏾 YES he’s blood granddaughter and his talent has went through my dad (his son) through us (his grandkids) I am a singer and I will be making a contribute and remix of this song to keep the legacy going for my granddaddy 💛 RIP Red
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. The fact that the youngsters are sampling Old School indicates that there is excellence back there that cannot be ignored or denied.
When I was 17 this song kicked my behind up down and all around back in 72. I was going with a young lady from Chicago and when we broke up this song had just come out. I mean for weeks everything I saw was Chicago. I saw Chicago on the side of trucks, on license plates, billboards newspapers, magazines you name it and it was there. But...when you're that young you somehow get through it.
The Chi-Lites, who started out with four members before the third one left, were from that era and provided some serious competition for Motown's Temptations. Strongly recommend: "Oh Girl", "Stoned Out of My Mind", "Are You My Woman (Tell Me So)" (the basis for Beyonce's hit "Crazy In Love") and "Oh Let Me Be The Man My Daddy Was." Lead singer Eugene Record also wrote the classic "Love Makes A Woman" and "Am I The Same Girl" (also a hit as an instrumental as "Soulful Strut") for phenomenal female singer Barbara Ackiin. In addition to those songs, you should also check out "Raindrops" and "Just Ain't No Love" by Barbara Acklin as well.
Check out Blue Magic. Both songs...Sideshow.....Three Ring Circus..., ar R & B classics with a similar vibe of the Stylistics. Blue Magic another TSOP (the sound of Philadelphia) group. The Philly sound produced lush, full orchestra arrangements. Many years back i attended a Stylistics concert where they performed with an orchestra. Also attended a Spinners concert again performing with orchestra.
Knowing your style of music you should one day react to the Chilite's songs "Toby" "Coldest days of my life" Write a letter to myself" Lonely Man" "Give more power to the people"
Yep this was their biggest hit....they were part of the Chicago sound which were competing with the Philly sound, Motown, New York and the other genre of black music happening at that time....im just disappointed you didnt pull up one of their performance videos....there are plenty of videos of them....they had to be one of the sharpest looking groups of that era....they were fit and wore the most stylish looking clothes and those afros were next level and on point
😍 aww man...such a 🔥jam from my early childhood. It always reminds me of my dad back in the day, he loved it. Little did I know then that it reminded him of my mom, when she would through his tail out for acting a fool. ✌🌼
The so-called song I wouldn't say is depressing. I don't think most of us listeners back then felt any real sadness from this song. It what is call a ballad of a romantic ballad about lost love. It expresses a feeling but a lot of our romantic ballads did. I think maybe much of the current music expresses little in the way of human feelings folks my age can relate to. Maybe because you don't hear many romantic ballads by current artists, when you hear one of these old ones, it may seem more than it really is, only just a song that expresses some feeling.
Yet another Chicago legend(s). We have so many iconic ppl and historical elements from this city. Historically known as Black Metropolis, nowhere else can even try and compare. gO-iLL ✔️👊🏽✔️
Ýou are the son I never had! I'd be teaching you all this music. I know I very asked before but please do some Gil Scott Heron. I swear I'd never steer you wrong. Try his song The Bottle or The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
The reason why she left him is probably because she has emotional problems. Whatever the reason is why she left him, he ought to forget about her and get a new woman for a girlfriend.

Eugene Record was a big time singer. Who left to go solo. They had some great songs, this is one of their best. Sad, but great song!

There is actually a sequel to this song called " A Lonely Man" which is mentioned at the end of this song.

Blue Magic's where it's at every song from them is a masterpiece I like the songs Spell and To Get Love (You Must Give Love) by them
I always remember this song from the movie "The Vanishing" with Kiefer Sutherland and Sandra Bullock. Such a timeless song.
Oh Girl is the joint too.
Mc Hammer's version is the one I heard first when I was about 13.
But this version is the original.
