My side of booktube. Thank you for covering this. I just read book 1 last month and I was like “how come I never heard of this or how come I never see anyone talking about.”
I believe the audience for this series is a little older and not as active on RUclips or Reddit, but it is still widely read. But as a younger person I loved it.
I'm currently reading the most recent release in the saga, so I'm glad to see someone just getting started recently, hope you continue/ have continued to enjoy! I would recommend sticking with publication order for the first 5 books. After that just pay attention to the duologies, but the order is much less significant. One other reading note I would offer is that The White Order and Colors of Chaos take place at the same time as The Magic Engineer, and follow some of the events in that story from a different perspective. If possible you might want to read those soon after finishing book 5. My personal favorites from the whole series are Magi'i of Cyador and Scion of Cyador.
The most amazing thing about the series, the whole 22 to be honest, is that every time I thought "AHA if that's the way this world works then what about THIS" and then the next book just straight up does that. I recommend everyone the series because the magic feels so complete, and I think that comes from the magic coming first and the world being built on top, rather than magic being plastered over the top of a world.
Just picked the first book up today, unfortunately doesn't have nearly as interesting cover art. Glanced through some of the others on the shelf and the premise of black mages etc got me interested enough to check it out!
I just happened to pick up The Soprano Sorceress the first book of the Spellsong Cycle by Modesitt. Jr. I loved it! got books 2 and 3. Then 4 and 5 in hardcover. They are on my Keeper shelf. Then I went to my library and got the first book in the Imager series and...didn't like it at all. *tee hee* But thought I would try it again and picked up Scholar and Princeps in hardcover. I haven't read them yet but I'll get to them. I also picked up Magi'i of Cyador and Scion of Cyador from the Saga of Recluce. I also picked up The Mongrel Mage, Outcasts of Order, Mage-fire war, and Fairhaven Rising all books which are part of the Saga of Recluce. They are all on my Keeper shelf but I haven't opened them yet....I am kind of hooked right now on Manhwa like Solo Leveling >.>
Great review :) I've got all novels on my shelf to read.. thank you In terms of not talked.. well this is old (there was no RUclips therefore people who read are more on the old side and are reading for decades. I believe that's one reason.. then it's the committment of reading a 20 novel saga .. modessit is very solid, he has more series... One of them deals with fantasy and music (. 5 book series) then there is another two series, one is imager (13books) and another series 9 bookd...he writes like three novels a year haha before Sanderson there was modessit
It makes sense why it’s not more discussed, and he’s not as widely sold as Robert Jordan or Sanderson, but I thought surely there’d be a few more big Booktubers who picked up the series. But I’m certainly going to be reading and reviewing more of them.
Some people have told me that because it’s a large number of books that aren’t really “connected” they aren’t interested Or if they don’t know most are standalone they are intimidated by the number Currently I’m in the middle of 2 and I’m not enjoying it as much as the 1st. It is 3rd person though BUT I enjoy lerris’ character more. Creslin doesn’t have that drive to learn about the magic like lerris did so it’s more of the day to day stuff while the over arching plot slowly creeps in.
it's worth sticking with it... i had the same feeling going into it, but was pleased with the ending. books 2, 3 and 4 are kinda jumps back in time throughout Recluce's history/founding/etc I always felt more connected with Lerris's character but still was able to enjoy the rest of the books once i realized what was happening and that they weren't continuations in a long epic
I just finished the book last night and was excited to read the sequel, BUT I did not realize that there are over 20 books in the series and also I saw the cover for book 6 and lost a lot of enthusiasm for that plot element that will be introduced. I'm still contemplating if I will continue reading or not.
@@ijustwanttolikecomments4677 I know you aren't supposed to judge a book by it's cover, but I believe I saw a spaceship on the cover and I am not interested in a series that includes that kind of stuff right now. I just wanted a typical fantasy adventure. I got burned twice from "the broken empire" and "hand of justice" series for introducing too much high tech stuff and I prefer a more simple fantasy setting.
@@pirate4460 it's still very much fantasy. I haven't read either of those series that you mentioned, but I had similar reservations when I saw the spaceships and was pleasantly surprised upon reading it. there's no real high tech stuff being introduced, it's more an interesting take on the origins of Recluce's magic in way, but not even exactly that. either way, I understand that not every series is for everyone, but I'd hate to see you miss out on a pretty decent fantasy series due to fears it will turn into a hard scifi story, which is definitely does not :)
The space ship sort of works as a framing device for the establishment of Recluce. Very few books focus on the space part, which is really minimal overall. FYI, most of the books are set-up in duologies and trilogies, with an overall connecting them, in terms of the books@@pirate4460
Read this and the second book on release and was underwhelmed, but I was very young and wanted action in all my fantasy. Suspect I will enjoy a reread but I will wait to see if you make it farther in the series. I want to say book two is about the same quality.
i liked, but didnt love, the 1st book, but i found The Towers of Sunset(2nd) to be FAR superior to the 1st book, and The Magic Engineer(3rd) to be even better. i read them at around 35,...25 years ago.
My side of booktube. Thank you for covering this. I just read book 1 last month and I was like “how come I never heard of this or how come I never see anyone talking about.”
The magic is based on quontume mechcinics particle physics the author said as much in the intro to his collection of short stories.
Funny. I'm watching this video because nobody EVER talks about this author or these books, and yet I see these books everywhere.

@@jonathankoan That makes sense but I don't hear people mention it even outside of RUclips. Nevertheless it seems to be a big seller.

Love seeing people engage with this series. Magi'i and Scion of Cyador are my personal favorites as well!
@@noahtheslowa6915 same, same lol
I do love the color flip. Making chaos white OOF so good
I love this book series and author! I wish more people on booktube would read/talk about it!
So much cheese was eaten in this book

That last half was good.
I love the OG cover but I also have one of the newer covers where he’s standing before THAT castle at the end.

I really want to get his other series eventually, but I’ve got so many Recluce novels that it’ll be a while.
He is my favorite author. I highly recommend reading Scholar. I love the recluce series, bust Scholar is my favorite book of all time!

I think his Imager Portfolio series is better

which concept are you referring to? because it's still in the same world with the same magic system...
