    Thanks for this video on salt because I’ve been keeping kois for over 12 years without using any salt at all and no sickness or deaths. Instead really happy kois with good growth and color.

    Really helpful video. I was advised to add salt as a tonic, which I started to do but then found out that too much salt can harm plants. Now having to do water changes to get rid of the salt. Like your website by the way👍

    i fell prey to the thought of adding salt for over winter to stop parasites . can honestly say it did me no benefits, infact it hinderd me as when i had an outbreak of trich and flukes from new fish that i must have missed when scraping ,it hindered me as i had to get it out before treating for the parasites. the only benefit wa it did drop my nitrate levels. salt baths have benefits in my opinion but i wouldnt salt pond again. i kind of agree in the fading colour too. great vid as usual dazzle and good to see you back.

    Great video's again Daz. Is there going to be any future video's on parasites, treatments, and how effective they are and the time scales for them to be in the pond. Eg ..time scales of cleaning filters after adding treatments.

      @DazzleKoi  2 года назад +2

      Hi Andrew, yes definitely. I did the first part of a series on health and the plan is for all that to be covered in subsequent parts but I havent got round to them yet. I am going to do a video specifically on PP next as I've been asked about it a lot and I'll get back to the health series after that

    • @DazzleKoi

      Hi mate, I think PP is an excellent option for many different parasites. I've been asked this a lot so I'm going to make a PP video next 👍👍

    Can salt be used to control blanket weed? If so at what level? I tried a product called Blanket Answer and it killed my bio filters after being perfect for nearly 10 years.

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  2 года назад +1

      Hi mate, no I would never subject koi to the harshness of salt just for blanket weed control. Have a look at hydrogen peroxide instead, it has no real side effects and will do the job.
      That said, cloverleaf blanket answer is excellent stuff and I've never had any problem with it affecting my bio filter before.

    So I bought koi from a eBay seller... They keep salt in their water I have lost 20% of The fish so far and finally put the worst ones back in salt, where they seem better ... How long should it take to ween them off the salt? Days,or weeks or months? Thanks for your time,,,

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  Год назад

      Hi Todd, it depends on concentration but I would personally try to replicate the dealers when they bring them in and spread the reduction over 4 to 6 weeks.

  • @chrisgriffith5520
    @chrisgriffith5520 Год назад +1

    If i do add salt in high concentration, how long should i leave it in before changing the water?

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  Год назад +2

      You should never really add salt in high concentrations to your pond, it is only for a bath or dip for around 10 to 15 minutes. If you put it in your pond you can't get it out for many weeks after as you have to dilute it out. By which time it will kill your fish. In the pond itself you can only go to low levels for osmotic stress relief.
