Determinism (Midtempo Modular with Vocals)

- Determinism is the doctrine that all events, including human action, are ultimately determined by causes external to the will. Some philosophers have taken determinism to imply that individual human beings have no free will and cannot be held morally responsible for their actions. In the setting of making music in modular, I use this term to denote music that has been created with every event specifically crafted, as opposed to probabilism or generative in which a set of parameters are created and the music is born more from chance. The rack used in this setup relies heavily on deterministic events, sometimes to its detriment.
The opening noise sound is MI Warps, being fed the alt out of Plaits and the sine out of the Dixie II+. Plaits is doing chords. Piston Honda is doing basses and the big ugly swell sound. It's running through the SSF Stereo Dipole and is being modulated with the Zadar. The Stereo Dipole is also being modulated with Zadar. A mult multiplies the gate signal from Hermod for the Piston Honda to the main VCA envelope, and to all four channels of the Zadar.
Rings is in 2-OP FM mode and is playing a sort of electronic piano line throughout. It's signal is split between the Intellijel Rainmaker and the TipTop z5000.
Pico Voice is being fed into the Harvestman 1982 filter. I'm modulating the filter with a signal from the ADE-32. The ADE-32 is getting weird clocks from the KeyStep Pro, so that it doesn't always stay in the same static rhythm. Another channel of the ADE-32 is going to modulate the After Later Monsoon, which is getting a split signal from the Pico Voice and Dixie2. The Dixie is doing the long synth sound in the breakdown section.
I didn't like the breakdown that much, so in Ableton I used an autofilter and reverb to diffuse it and give the vocals more space.
The drums are from the VPME QD and the Squarp Rample. They're being sequenced by the Varigate. All melodic stuff is being sequenced by the Squarp Hermod.
Vocals were recorded after the modular performance. One pass through the Perform-VE, and another into Ableton and processed in the DAW.

One thing i love about RMR, he actually making lots of good song. Not just a random expensive bleeb bloob
Some people like random bleep bloops🤷♀️ with modular I love seeing and hearing it all
@@SkyDivingBeaver I get that buddy ✌🏽
Agree, sometimes modular, for me, sound too chaotic. My brain is too smooth to get this type of music.
The same goes for some types of jazz...
Well this was freaking sweet
Thaaaaank u
This is awesome. Came for the video and stayed for the music. Perfect song for waking up in the matrix.
So very, very good. This is going on repeat for a while. Thank you!
Nice to see Eurorack MUSIC making and not just panel demos. Really nice! Great beats!
With the end of Daft Punk, I’m so happy that we have so many brilliant artists continuing to create absolute bops.
Well done, dude.
Yes I think this is the first modular video I've ever seen that actually sounds like an honest-to-god good song and not just bleeps and bloops! Nice work!
I have never commented on a RUclips video before, but this sounds just fabulous. Amazing that it has been done almost 100% outside of a DAW.
Wow! I didn’t know modular could get so funky! Great track!
Your videos are part of the reason I finally got into modular. You showed me that it was possible to make real catchy music with some creative tools. Keep it up.
What a banger! I've seen kids plugging patches for years and not approach anything musically complete as this track. Watching your journey on modular is really inspiring.
it's outrageous how good this is
On a side note, that cable management is exceptional.
awesome
What an inspiring utilization of modular.
And excellent vocals too, I'd love to see that continue in your work
Dude this fucking slaps, I love how deep and grundge some of the synth effects sound
Really feeling that line about wanting to be unstuck. Absolutely love this track. Hungry for the next track.
I put this on and started doing work. Then the song ended and I got confused why it was suddenly quiet in the room and not grooving anymore. Please provide another hour or so of this so I can be more productive in my day.
Second listen on this one. Definitely like the pretty unusual use of modular with vocals for a sort of standard song and how distinct all the synth voices are. Wonder if modular will proliferate to the point where singer-songwriters use it routinely.
My ears cant get enough of this.
I adore this. Modular pop!
with this setup, i fly us home my man. i hope you have endless fun with this !!!! i be with you , deep on swamps islands! be careful
I am imagining RKC jamming hard to this like you did for her MicroFreak song! I know I am! Damn!
Great track, well done!!! I especially LOVE the lead bass sound and the big vocal chord progressions in the breakdown. Very inspiring keep up the amazing work
I have absolutely no idea of what he's doing, but it sounds awesome
Incredible vibes 🎶🎵
I went from really sad over the announcement from Daft Punk, to vibing pretty hard to this. So that's got to be a mark of a good track, right there.
Damn! This one's great! Absolutely love it!
Flipping heck that is really cool! If those squelchy filthy psy-esque basses are coming from Piston Honda I think my wallet is in for another surprise! Very nice!!!
They were yeah. Probably through stereo dipole with drive.
amazing sound design skills Jeremy, such a groovy track.
It's a kind of magic!
Rad. First thought was "modular with vocals, that's always crap". Proved me wrong.
Junge, Junge, as we Germans say. I like that very much. The Mod and its funky Bunch. Amazing work!
i really want this on my spotify my god
Great patch
most of youtube videos with synths i could take only for listening of the synth voices and so, but your stuff sounds pleasantly musical, thanks!
Excellent sounds sounds really good 🎼
Excellent mate 👌 👏
Super funk bro 😎 good vibe here ❤️ new electronic bass sound 👏
superb
Does God exist? Do we have free will?
I gave my Eurorack free will. It's more fun than playing alone.
JEREMY IS A GOD!
your music is always inspiring and lives outside of any genre, fucking killer
HOT DAMN.
My 2 step authenticator verified that this track was definitely legit. ✌ 🕉
Talent coming through!
Play that funky modular Red means! (I'm dancing in my head because my body can't dance) Sweet funk!
a BOP 🙏💗
Wow!
Nice bassline, wild!
I see a Red Means Recording video and I like the video. Is that free will? I really like the video, but maybe it was predetermined, like the pieces of a puzzle falling into place. I still like the video even after I pushed the like button, so I guess I made the right decision, even if I was really acting on free will or not.
I feel and think I consciously chose to comment on this comment but the decision was already made in my mind before me being aware of it and this again as a consequence of billions and billions of causes that yet again where effects of other causes ad infinitum, or at least traceable back to the beginning, if there ever was such a thing as a beginning in the first place. See what I did there? "A beginning in the first place", lol, I can't help myself from being funny. Ok I'll see myself out.
Damn! Gnarly patch.song.vibe.🤘
That's a lot of cable but it worth the cost for such good music
Funky!
Dang, this is wild!
Tune.
❤🔥
This tune gunna make me late for work and that's okay.
oooo dats nastyyyyyyy
Magic
Dope track! I know we're all here for the music, but would you do a video on your animations sometime? I love them!
hey this is a banger track but are you okay jeremy
Solid hook homie. Def a jammer
Niiice
uuUH me likey dat #9, me likey it a lot
That one dislike was predetermined anyway
getting some maydaay vibes here
4:10
Peter Gabriel on modular, or how to explain to your lover that you're attracted to other people and plan to act on it.
Hell yes peter gabriel
Can i buy this track somewhere? This beat is so sick!
Just... wow! 😭
It will be on an album later this year
You should do this type of stuffs more commonly x3 gluck m8 ;3
i guess i have to wait for the next album on bandcamp ? You don't upload them one by one ?
I throw them on patreon and then compile them for an album later in the year. Probably will do two albums this year.
It's not bees?
interesting lyrics, the song feels like a lsd trip
Me likey.
Howre you doing the audio react visuals??
Seems like when you want to write a song you use Hermod, and when you want to jam/improvise live, you use Rene. Is that somewhat accurate? When you write a song with Hermod, do you write it out in midi first, and then transfer the notes to Hermod, or do you program within Hermod itself?
Yeah I think you nailed the difference
je vois les éléphants taper du pieds sur place devant un mûr de son.
this track made me gay and I liked it.
The bass is nasty.
this is. good song??????? funky.......
I'm confused. No “Beads” in your modular?? How DARE you even post? I was under the impression that it was now ILLEGAL to post modular videos to RUclips without a Beads. 😱😳👻
btw lyrics sounds like a long excuse for taking substances :D
Dis why Jeremy’s music more intelligent than yours
I hate vocals in music, but...
Awesome
