The cinematography is exceptional--terrific visual storytelling, great night shots, etc. The blurry shots hovering directly above the surface of the water are particularly striking and comment nicely on the theme of nearly drowning in one's destructive behavior. Loved seeing the raging campfire apparently consume the main character as well. Having just finished my own short, I also impressed how clean the audio is. That was by far the most challenging/time consuming part of the whole process, but this all sounds very clean and professional. I love the final shot. There's an element of hope, but you see how difficult/big the challenges are that lay ahead of him. Great film. Would love to see more!
❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊 A great film. The catastrophic degredation of ones self esteem and self abuse can ruin the relationship of family and friends. It really pains those who care and try to help an individual out of dangerous patterns of mental unstableness. This very sad film shows how hard it is for someone who wants to try to help someone who remains like a brickwall against help. This film is so true to many of us with consuming addicting and compulsive behaviors. I hope that however true this film is to someone that they dont become a statistic that can't realize that they need help before they succomb to the fatal reality of their behavioral pattern. Both characters were magnificent in thier portrayal of male relationships which are very hard and primarily uncaring due to masculinity issues. Tears came to my eyes when after thier fight the caring friend just drove off like a true masculine male without any further interaction with someone who may need his help desperately.....very sad.😢😢😢
It was an interesting tale, and one that reflects most of male to male relationships. It is a true depiction because I have experienced such relationships and have seen such toxic behaviors displayed in male partners who were friends. This is almost like a warning to us men: to own our emotions and never allow them to destroy our relationships. I would enjoy seeing a film about the growth and reconciliation of the two main characters. It would be a glimmer of hope to see male relationships that are filled with love and positive affections.
Exquisitely made, profound and brave in conception, very sad but redemptive, if not in the symbolism of the final scene, certainly in the work's compassionate expression of suffering. 'In escaping who we were, we risk escaping who we are' is a powerful philosophical concept. What a remarkable director, both with regard to the eloquence of his introductory text and the ethereal quality of the film itself. (Have just watched a documentary on the German Symbolist Art Movement, with which this film resonates strongly, so I feel confident in saying 'Wow, Zachary Zebrowitz, just WOW!)
Cinematographically, the film is remarkably beautiful, profound, intense, and yet subtle and moving in its approach to its rather heavy subject matter. The photography and lighting are splendid, the actors credible and authentic, and the overall quality very professional. However the film raises many questions that may confound the uninformed viewer. Fortunately, the director's description to the video gives an idea of the context and his intentions, which command respect. Seen from this angle, the film may be aimed primarily at an audience directly or indirectly concerned by the subject at hand. While one might suppose that viewing the film followed by a discussion could have a therapeutic value, the whole thing exudes a suffering that seems almost impossible to contain, and offers only a faint glimmer of hope in the final 15 seconds of the last sequence, which mirrors exactly the last sentence of the director's description. All we can hope for is that this exercise has brought the director the peace he was seeking, and that this short film may also raise awareness where needed and help other victims and their families to break the silence and start healing.
