- Dr. Timnit Gebru is a postdoctoral researcher at Microsoft Research in NY. She received all her three (PhD, Masters and Bachelor's degrees) from Stanford University. Her PhD work was focused on Computer Vision, a discipline in the area of Artificial Intelligence. Featured on The Economist for her research, she was also featured by Forbes as one of the 20 female researchers who are bringing impact the AI field. She will be my guest to talk about her journey and Artificial Intelligence. Enjoy Part one of our conversation!

It wasn't an accident that you got in to Stanford. Timnitye we knew you were too smart when you were a child. As always, you are just to humble to speak highly of your self. Keep up the good work.
Although my Amharic is not so good, I can tell he is a good interviewer. Dr. Gebru is sure an aspiring scientist, who is making a name for herself not only through high quality researches but also by drawing ethics line in the field.

“Life 3.0” By Max Tegmark is also a good book to learn about The pros and cons of AI in different scenario in the long and short run ! I am glad to see someone in the field trying to rise the awareness and wake us up! I always felt like we are left behind when in comes to not only IA, in technology generally.
You are an amazing bright and intelligent young woman, as you have mentioned it, I hope to make something good out of A.I. for good use.

I just have known about her heritage when she got fired from google. She is 🇪🇷 Eritrean born in Ethiopia 🇪🇹. Amazing! She won’t have a problem getting job somewhere in the big tech soon or will found her own start-up

I have been following her on the news lately and it was great to hear from her in her origin language. “Weapons of Math Destruction” the book Dr. Gebru has mentioned in the interview by Cathy O’Neil is a great book. I had to read it for one of my classes in college and I still have the book. It has a lot of answers to many questions we might have around AI and technology.

She Is an amazing woman. I came here after reading about her being forced out from google. She speaks fluent Ameharic. I failed miserably to teach my kids speaking Ameharic or Tigrenga 😡
Born and raised in Addis, parent/mom got deported from Ethiopia because of her Eritrean origin. So Amharic is her language. English is learned.

i wish more habesha are proactive in teaching their children amharic and/or tigrinya. Habesha people take for granted these are the only languages with script on the continent and has ancient beginnings. It is good for kids' brains as well - will not confuse them at all.
