I had to get a real job...

- enjoy me rambling for 20 minutes
just wanted to give y'all an update on what i've been up to. for the past few months i've been working about 10 hours a week at a local car dealership. completely uninspired and uncreative work, but i love it. it helped inspire some of my best work: "for her to hear" - a five-song solo project i dropped at the end of november.
in this video i talk about how i could do a better job monetizing my youtube channel. i turn down 90% of the sponsorships that come my way, i don't have anything to sell to my audience, and i've started making very niche videos. some part of me just heavily resists following the suggested youtube route. and the other part of me just wants to make music all day. so i had to get an actual job to continue creating unmonetizable art.
i am so blessed i get to follow my passion, even if it's confusing and humbling at times. i have y'all to thank for that.
thank you so much for following and supporting my journey. xolemates for life.
keep making music 🌱

coleman, your journey is as real as it gets. people glamourize the musician lifestyle in media, but no one knows the grit it took for those people to reach those statuses. all the fluctuations you've been through in your life and how you came out of it is a testament to your character. i felt so emotional watching this because i was watching you for the past 4+ years and you constantly worked so hard on your content and music. you've built a great community on discord, and i made good friends on there. you've also made ableton tutorials that helped me a ton since the beginning, you bet i still use that bump snare in that xole drumkit vol. 1 ;) i still remember last year feni, luke, and i devised a plan to donate with the xolemates during the christmas season on that one live stream because we all collectively knew how much you played a pivotal role in our lives. although you're going through financial struggles and i hope it gets better, you'll always be the man of the people coleman. we will always support you. keep going strong & keep making music :)
this means a lot naol! you’ve been supporting what i do for a while, it doesn’t go unappreciated. i will never forget that stream! 🙏🏻
not a SINGLE person in the music youtube space is this honest and authentic
means the world fam 🙏🏻
We love you xole, we'll all be here backing you up through this journey
jellyfish!! much love bro. you're so important to the xolemates community. keep up the fire tunes, and keep up the xolemates shows! one day i'll join 🙏🏻
I couldn't thank the algorithm enough for giving me this, i'm going through a lot of similar struggles and it's nice to know i'm not alone!
keep going morticius! we're in this together 🙏🏻
Another inspirational movie. Thanks man I really needed this today. I feel so blessed to be a part of the community you have built. Keep making music.
gotze! you are integral to this community fam. your constant encouragement has helped me in times of doubt. glad to have gotten to know you over the years and even made an absolute heater together haha! i've watched first hand your music level up. you are in your prime right now, keep the bangers coming. 🌱
@@xole thanks brother
Xole, when I tell you that I have never felt related to in a long time. I wish you nothing but the best going forward
made my day man 🙏🏻 that’s what these videos are for! trying to keep it as real as I can on here. keep making music! 🌱
Thank you for being so open about the things you go through. I'm sure a lot of people (including me) feel better about their situations knowing that their not alone in things like this that get over looked. Just wanna say I'm so glad that I've stumbled upon your channel and was able to really connect with your journey whether good or bad. Love u man! You're a big inspiration to me and a lot of other people so keep up the good work and keep making musiccc!
mystic! much love. you've been supporting for a while, it doesn't go unnoticed. i'm happy the video resonates. we're all on our paths but we're also in this together 🙏🏻 keep making music 🌱
thank you for being so real with us man and showing us your journey. you are such a huge inspiration to all of us.
happy to hear it’s encouraging 🙏🏻 keep making music! 🌱
Its amazing how honest you're being here, excited to see what you do in the future
preciate your support! 🙏🏻
I remember watching your first moving-out video during COVID... At that time, I had completely given up on music for about 4 months. Watching your video gave me a little hope because of how you had things figured out on such a tight budget. It took me another 5 months to start making music again, but it's been a little over two years of focused music-making since then. Eventually, I had to get a job, and it's been 6 months now. Over the past 4 months, my productivity started to decline, but this video made me realize why I started making music in the first place...Keep going, and *good luck* with whatever the future holds for you my guy!
I appreciate this man! I’m glad my videos played some positive role in your journey. We’re in this together!
keep making music 🌱
Very mature decision, I'm sure you'll succeed and one day look back at this video and be proud of the work you've put in.
Yo man. The Lord has you in a hidden season. keep at it. everyone that is hidden gets his blessing. Keep him first bro!
Big facts 🙏🏻 preciate the encouragement
Man, am I glad to have found you randomly on RUclips a couple years ago. I'm recently 17 and it's amazing seeing proof that the life I wanna live is possible and seeing you push through when it's hard. This next semester I'm not doing any school and I'm trying to develop my skills and working my parttime job. Love ya Xole
Having an alternative non creative way to support yourself while making art is so underrated. Cause more than the lack of money, uncertainty can be very gruelling. Very expensive on time and peace. Having another task to "rest" on actually made me create more. I can escape regularly to another productive endeavor and when it's time to create i don't hesitate or procrastinate as i would before.
this is absolute facts! i've learned this over the last few months. we're in this together. keep making music 🌱
fr this is some of the most genuine videos i've seen on youtube in awhile. appreciate this side of your content and glad you're dedicated to it. it just so happens one of your tiktoks came on my feed and I really do think it's one of best i've heard from you in awhile. love the vocal melodies along with your tone. keep it up cole!
Dude, this video resonated with me on a level unlike any other. Realizing that music was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, I decided to stop doing something that might have led me to safer waters, but would have taken away from my burning passion for music. I haven’t looked back since. You made a great decision, and it's clear that you have a beautiful community backing you along the way. Keep pushing! God bless.
I'm in that same situation, it's so cruel to compare yourself to artists who have made it already. Thanks for showing us what real life is... I really needed this
I have a lot of respect for you bro. Really enjoy the album as well! Thank you for all you do. I pray God makes a way for you and all of us musicians 🙏🏾
love you man 🙏
love you too fam! you've supported this journey of mine for a while now steve. hope you're still creating, you have a true talent brother 🙏🏻
the tutorials are back guys 🙏🏻
Been here for a long time and man I'm glad you still do this even though everything hasn't gone 100% perfectly. Sometimes life throws challenges at you to test you, but they make you stronger. But I lowkey think having a part time job will help you make better music/content, because you don't have to stress about making money from only youtube/streaming.
I completely feel you there...
Thank you for sharing your situation with us and giving visibility to what it's like to be an independent artist that is making music and really taking seriously what they do.
In my case, if it wasn't for my partner, I wouldn't be able to only be working on it.
I am considering getting a part time job because it is actually hard to make a living only from music.
Thank you for the little message at the end of the video too. It was all very inspiring and I'm not romantising being broke, because it is not nice.
I'll be listening to your music ✨💐
it's so awesome seeing comments like this. we are all in this together. this journey can feel very isolating at times so realizing how many people are pushing through and chasing their dreams is inspiring.
i wish you the best celia! you are on your path. it's easier to steer the ship at slower speeds, don't rush yourself! keep making music 🌱

Hi xole it’s me West Ryland, and can I just say it’s been awesome to see you grow to over 50,000 subscribers you got this keep going
you've been supporting for so long ryland. i always appreciate the positivity fam 🙏🏻
awesome video! it's been really inspiring to keep up with your journey of making music and youtube. despite the financial challenges that come with prioritizing making art, i would argue that you are doing something incredibly important more often than most are, which is actually living life. i’ve been in a year long creative rut, but your videos always inspire me to push through and to keep creating. keep it up, and i’m excited to see everything y’all will do in 2025!
means the world dtn! you've been supporting for a while now man, always encouraging me on the journey. it doesn't go unnoticed 🙏🏻
keep making music 🌱
Im new to your channel and Im already so inspired by you! keep pushing you got this!
damn the mustache ,loki looking fire , its ok to be u.
love ur videos man
Dude, thanks for being that open about your situation. Been there and let me tell you this: The stress you're feeling being in your twenties is already hard.
But it'll become unbearable in your late 30s. A real health risk. I learned it the hard way and I am glad you are already on the right path of relieving you from that stress.
When you're burned out and have stress related health problems making music is even harder. So yeahhhh.... Part time job hurray. All the best from Germany, xo
KEEP YOUR HEAD UP KING 👑

You got to promote your money making stuff more such as sound lodge great content as always brother I hope you're well!
Also is it not possible for you to offer mixing and mastering services something to help out the community etc?

never 🙏🏻
The new EP is amazing!
much love fam 🙏🏻
Why not just do like a remote part time job and yeah bro I would def suggest choosing two things focusing on them to make money
How can i collab with you??
Why don’t you just work full time + a second job save up some security & make some songs off the sacrifices we gotta make brotha
great point. i’m just stubborn and would rather spend most my day working on the music, even if it means i have to live well below my means. i am not recommending the sacrifices i make for my music to anyone. it comes with a lot of confusion and humbling moments. i think i just believe there’s a “breakthrough” around every corner that will make it all worth it.
we’re all wired differently and i’ve learned this path brings me the most joy! i am very blessed to even be able to chase my passions 🙏🏻
@ yes totally get it, everyone’s path is different and shouldn’t be compared - this was a temporary suggestion like let’s say you spend 2 months working 60+ weeks writing songs still. having a few grand in your checking will ease the tension & then you can go back to only part time & more of the music grind focus… from my experience having less time to work on music made me learn to be more efficient/ get creative with my time & make songs faster the grind is real & I respect you for not giving up. Keep making great songs twentyfourseven is absolutely fire
What are you proposing here? That he work a full-time job plus a second job at the same time while making music? Seems not very tangible.
Hey
hello mrjay on their businessaccount 👋
Please can we collab
