Nice to see Mecabricks put to good use. Both the Lite and advanced Add-ons are now compatible with Blender 2.80. The file downloaded from Mecabricks shall be unzipped in order to select the correct version for Blender 2.79 or Blender 2.80. The folders also contain a PDF with instructions on how to install and how to use the add-ons. For the advanced version, a tool panel is available to directly update the materials all at once without going through each shader as well as a randomize slider.

Nice to see that you found Mecabricks. You forgot to mention to load the Template scene first. ;-)
The Mecabricks addon has now an own format. If you still use Collada and the old addon you need to export with "Group by geometry and colour" and turn on "Link Material to Meshes". This will create real instances what is important for bigger scenes. I would recommend to turn off the "Geometry Options" and replace the OSL Bevel node with the new Cycles Bevel node. This saves geometry and looks perfect. The "Geometry Options" don't work for all models. They can mess up some geometry and they produce different bevel sizes.
I use a modified Template scene for the Bevel node and the latest Daily Builds of 2.79. But with the new addon from this month and the own format the Template Scene has been updated to this and there's now a version for 2.80.

Really useful video. I've been toying with blender and mecabricks recently. I do find the surfaces very reflective... Is turning up the roughness manually the only real way to decrease it or have you found a more generic setting to do it for the whole scene? Thanks for HR uplooad!

Hi! Good video! I tried this method of importing with a minifigure, is it possible to change the texture of the torso, head... so we can set on the minifigs a custom decal texture, without changing the material properties?

Yeah, there's several places, for genuine lego I'd recommend Valiantbricks, Citizenbricks or Minifigco and for Cheap Knockoff Ones check out Aliexpress! Hope this helps : )

Hi Snooper. I was curious about importing minifigs into blender-for example, many of my minifigs aren't available in mecabrick and cannot be imported into mecabrick after being built in stud.io because mecabrick doesn't have the parts uploaded. What workaround do you suggest? I ask because I want the high quality mecabricks offers in the render vs the quality of stud.io which isn't bad but not as good as meca.
Does the mb_solid node only come with the advanced version? With the lite version it doesn't seem to be as glossy as the tank in the video.

Hi, I have the Lite version and ABS plastic materials(similar to Blego) addons. How can I select the bricks in order to apply the materials?
you just click on a brick then go to the node editor, you can copy and paste materials by selecting everything in the node editor then paste it to other bricks
how do you render an animation? it must take agaes :D
I can't get blender advanced to work, it still doesn't show the meccabricks file in the import menu, I even bought the advanced version and it still doesn't work
It also doesn't import the colours of my model correctly

Hi, do you know why some parts of the assembly are missing when exporting to MecaBricks?
Unfortunately, Stud.io and MecaBricks parts catalogs are not the same. Stud.io has parts that MecaBricks just doesn’t.

It's odd, because when I installed the blender lite add on, the option to import a mecabricks file doesnt show up
You have to enable the add on in user preferences. Save the preferences and restart blender.
ok so I have been using Mechabricks but every time I import my project into blender with minifigs the faces and the images of there clothes don't apper if you can help me with that thanks.
This is not working for me. : ( I click to use add-on and I then click on the "Blender Lite" zip. I go to import and the Mecabricks option is not there...Any ideas?
I think I got an answer for you.. It also didn't work for me like it did for you but then I found a solution through forums. He doesn't mention in video that the Lite version is a bit different, you have to 1st unzip the "Blender Lite.zip" and then go inside this unzipped file into correct subfolder (depending on version of Blender; 2.0.7 = for Blender 2.79, 3.0.1 = for Blender 2.8) and install the "mechabricks.zip". Hope it helped

Have you any progress on the Dance Macabre ballroom lego stopmotion? If you gave up, I totally understand. I've tried my hand at stop motion a few times in the past (mostly when I was a pre teen), and I know how hard it is, and how long it takes to do it.
I started doing it as stop motion a few years ago, but realized the way I was doing it and with Lego Skeletons it was going to be so much work and I needed to experiment first, I should probably make a video addressing it. I still plan on it in the future but I want to do it with professional stop motion figures that cost several hundred dollars a piece which right now just isn't financially feasible at the moment while i'm in school.

I tried to use Mecabricks to transfer a moc using ccbs. It only loaded half the parts of the actuall desighn. Can anyone help whith this?
Hi, not sure if anyone will reply but.. Here goes. I have made a mesh in studio, I saved it as .io, as I went to import it into mecabricks, it imports but theres no meshes there. Any Idea? In other words, it says it imports but no mesh has imported.
thanks for the video. the problem is: Mecabricks doesnt support all parts you have in Studio 2.0 - so importing a studio file into Mecabricks works but with the loss of some parts.
The solution I found for this is to export the file from studio as a .dae, and import that AS WELL AS the file from mecabricks into blender (which has changed to a different file type since this video). Then you can just take the parts you need from the studio models, and apply the materials from the mecabricks models, and move the studio parts into place (and rescale them). If your MOC has a lot of parts, it'd probably be easier to make a new studio file with only the parts mecabricks doesnt have.

Are you sure You enabled the plugin correctly? didn't unzip first? strange you might be having that issue. Probably fixed it by now but let me know.

@@maxencedc Yeah, They changed their import settings, it's no longer Dae as far as I'm aware. It's now Zbmx OR something along those lines.
but Studio program can already export as dae? why use Mecabricks?
It seems like the exported file from studio doesnt keep the materials. Or at least its not keeping them for me

Do not hesitate to check the Mecabricks forum or even email me if you have some issues. Do not hesitate to unzip the zip file downloaded from Mecabricks. It contains 2 versions of the add-on (for Blender 2.79 or Blender 2.80) as well as a PDF that explains how to install and use them.

because I was recording the screencast with my gpu (my cpu is actually faster than my gtx1070 as well)
