I don't agree about having any kind of problem with mabu in specific. this culture with romanticizing gangs and violence is a problem in general, to me it just seems extremely strange this little kid gets on the mic and raps about "being about it" and he blows up because that is what our culture feeds; it is a never ending cycle. our community has many talents and we don't need to be shoehorned into a space where the only way to make it out is by perpetuating the reason we have to "make it out" in the first place.

People talking about rapping about trauma that didn’t happen need to stop because u know dang well 90% of the people listening to rap aren’t getting sad or being sympathetic nor are the rappers looking for sympathy. They’re looking for money and most listeners are just tying to hear some shit that makes them hype. Most rap songs are listened to and the reaction is usually about it sounding good and singing along about the crimes. There are songs that aren’t rap that are about the sad life and for that you could make the argument but let’s not pretend that rap is some legit story’s every single time that isn’t exaggerated and that it isn’t for the money. No one’s listening and talking about men’s mental health or ptsd
Yes Mabu is cringe for rapping about stuff he never lived, but at least it sounds good. Whats more cringe is people who are saying he SHOULD live that life to rap about it. Tf are you smoking to say to someone to throw their entire life away and sell drugs to make music around it...?
Rappers that talk about their pain also flex about causing pain to others and romanticize trauma. Also how does dontai follow separate art from the artist but care about authenticity?

I’m sorry but I disagree with allot he said in this. People listen to music for different reasons. The people who take music a little more seriously try to push what they believe to the people who “don’t really care”. Things is people who “don’t really care” don’t care what anyone listen to but the people who “do care” call the people who “don’t care” “brain dead”-Imdontai
