  • Q: How Long Will Fat Survive from Liposuction?
The most common question I'm asked is 'How long will this fat survive?'
'Do I need to do this again later on in life?'
Let me take you through an example. And I'm going to use hair as a primary example for what I think is happening.
Fat, as we age, we lose it from the face, the hands, the breasts, and the buttock.
These are the areas where we lose fat as we age, but we never lose fat from the areas that you want to lose it: the lower belly, the love handles, the legs (inner and outer legs). As a matter of fact, these areas seem to get worse as we get older. So, I use the hair example.
In men, we go bald. But there's a little strip of hair in the back that never disappears. So, we take that particular hair follicle and we move it to the front. When we move that hair follicle to the front, that hair should live forever (because it was programmed to live forever).
Now, you've got to remember that you keep on losing that front hair that I didn't transplant. Cause the original hair stays there. It's the back hair that stays and lives forever. Therefore, my whole philosophy is that when I'm taking these fat cells from areas that never go away, I think it's going to live forever. Giving you a permanent change in your body. The sculpting will last forever. Because I'm removing fat from unwanted areas. That fat is gone and will never come back. I'm adding it to the backside. And I'm hoping that I can get that fat cell to survive.
Again, I get about 60 to 70% fat survival of what I put in there. In some people it's more; and in some it's less. That's kind of like my average. But we've got to give it 3 to 6 months to see how much of it is going to stay.
A: So, my basic philosophy: the fat that I'm transferring to your buttock will stay forever. However, the original fat cells that I didn't transfer, you may continue to lose. But I have patients that it's been around 15 to 20 years, and they still have amazing bodies!

From what I've read, fat cells dont go away. They just swell and shrink. After the final result shows, it should just be about maintaining your weight.
