If I remember my reading, one of the unexpected impacts of large scale ice melting is the greater freedom some orca pods are exploiting to penetrate previously prohibited nursery areas and feeding grounds of belugas and narwhales, among others. Orca predation on resident mammals could unbalance what seems to be an otherwise healthy wildlife reservoir.
