Both Football and Cricket are equally popular here but cricket doesn't have free to air broadcasters due to Sky sports paid pack thats the only reason our viewership is low .
For Australia, There are 2 versions of Rugby, Rugby League (NRL) and Rugby Union. They play on the same type of field, but the rules are different. An American would find Rugby League easier to understand then Union, as League has a set of tackles (6) which are like Downs (4) before the ball is handed over to the other team. Out of the 2, Rugby League is the most popular and predominantly played in NSW, Queensland and the ACT. Aussie Rules. (AFL) is more popular in the the rest of the other states. To correct Travis, there is no grounding of the ball. Points are only scored by kicking the ball through the goal posts. ( 6 through the middle 2 and 1 point through the 2 outers) What sport you follow is pretty much governed by where you were born. Soccer is pretty big as well but just like America, never became the number 1 sport. Cricket is massive and is the summer game where the above are played through the cooler months. There are Test matches, one day matches and more popular recently is 20/20 or Big Bash. 20/20 is more akin to baseball. The game can be played in an evening, where each team has only 20 overs (6 bowls per over). Of a nation of only 25 million, we love our sports and have so much of it.
Two popular sports in the U.S. that Swanee missed are Tennis and Ice Hockey. But I don't blame anyone about poor sports knowledge because this is an area that I also know little about beyond the general rules. One thing that I will add is that I enjoy sports more when I am actually there watching a game in person. And if you are skilled, it's even more fun playing.
Haha! I'm not that into sports either Swanee. Lol 😄 The only helpful thing I can say is be prepared to be forced into learning and playing all American sports as part of highschool P.E. class curriculum if you are a foreign exchange student. Especially, in a smaller, rural school, there's no where to hide and they need every kid to play otherwise there isn't enough players to make a team. 😄
C'mon Swanee, you forgot about Noodling. In the south people go into rivers, go under the water and stick their arm in a catfish nest. The catfish opens their mouth and swallows the persons arm up to the forearm. Then you pull your arm from the hole and have caught a catfish. There's even TV shows about this noble sport.
First of all, it is a great content which I really enjoy watching. Secondly, Travis is back with his vivid and energetic vibe. Next, I love the connection, interaction and ambient you guys bring. No words to explain but it is comfortable to watch your videos. Last but not least, if there is part two about idioms or expression related to sports, I would really appreciate. Thanks for sharing your culture with us

Less padding actually makes rugby less dangerous than American football...American football has a CTE issue which is due to players being more reckless with their bodies due to the equipment....players are less reckless in the way they hit others without pads on. In addition to flag football, we also grow up playing touch football (usually 2 hand touch or 2 second wrap up)....but usually we just played tackle without padding...and trust me, tackle football without padding is much safer than with pads

This is why you NEVER ask a Sydney person about sports. AFL is by far the most popularly viewed sport in Oz. Rugby Union??? Has about 3000 registered players. Multiply that by 1000 to approach AFL numbers
Iv fan of British Football proper football, & Australian Rules Football & I don’t like rugby but I would choose to watch American Football rather than U.K. rugby’s. Beach Football British vision of it is good as well. So in order I would watch British Football,Australian Football as I call it then beach football then American football. Only reason I didn’t include Gaelic Football is because Iv never see a live match on Tv or in person so I can’t judge it. I also like Swanee name as place I grew up in is Swansea,U.K.
