It’s been ten years and this video still warms my heart. The RTD era will always be the best side of the doctor.
It makes me so damn happy that they don’t make lgbt characters on Doctor Who the butt of every joke. They don’t make fun of people who are different and the show is so inclusive. I’m panromantic, non-binary trans masculine, and autistic. The show makes me feel included with the other lgbt and autistic coded characters. I love this show so much.
It’s definitely better than the alternative when people pretended lgbt people weren’t a thing.
But I have to disagree it often seems to me like recently DW makes a character represent a minority or society, but forgets to give them a character.
As if their race/disability/sexual identity/sexual orientation is the most interesting thing about them. As an LGBT person I just want to be treated the same as everyone else.
If I was defined by my sexuality it would make me feel so devalued and depersonalized.

7 characters there from the RTD era and for any character there you could name 5 traits about their character or personality before you mention their sexuality or race.
When you single someone out for their sexuality/gender/race even if you’re saying nice inclusive things, you’re still singling them out.
Under moffat it lost all subtlety, or sophistication. He would reduce people down to that one thing about them. And despite him baiting or mocking the lgbt people with Sherlock and Watson (even though they were never gay). Baiting the female doctor who fans it would happen but not doing it himself instead waited until his tenure was over.
Glad I grew up under the Davies era and not the moffat era.
Captain Jack was the first gay action hero I’d ever seen on movie or TV. After seeing him and in Torchwood at age 12 any idea I had or would ever have that gay men were weaker or inferior to straight were exterminated.
