- I have just started FGO and there was Character I wanted before I even knew she was just comming out! This was Koyanskaya and since she just released, I obviously had to try my luck on her! How bad is the FGO summoning experience?

How many Pulls have you done?
i did 30 pulls before i even got koyanskaya, now that i got her im a happy man.
Took 50 pull to get her and I still have SQ for oberon pity
took 70 pulls but i also got another copy for NP2 and extra Lancer Artoria so it's a win-win
Somehow, I landed myself a Koyan after only one multi.
In hindsight it might've been after I almost had to hit pity for Morgan and missed Melusine.
I did save 1400+ sqs for her and future servants bit i think i spend around the same of sqs as you to get her....
The dopamine i get everytime i got something i want is definitely stronger in FGO than it is in AK just because i know how much shittier the rates are here lmao

Fr, I only saw my first rainbow after 3 whole freakin year playing fgo and I was so happy. Like all my previous ssr are gold and spark, not that I had that much ssr to begin with.
especially if you got that juicy rainbow spark, honestly i hate that the rainbow effect is not guaranteed like it make no sense, why not make all SSR pull have rainbow spark

Tips from veteran : DO NOT BURN YOUR CU CHULAINN (CASTER), BEDIVERE AND JAGUAR MAN.They are not obtainable unless rate up. There are some R rarity sometime on rate up also obtainable from story locked that not worth it to roll on so might want to search story locked character while you have time. You will regret if you burn them next year or after 1 year playing this game.
I wouldn't burn any servant that isn't over the fifth copy, to be honest. Even servants you never use can still be sources of free quartz and other resources if you raise their bond levels, or do their strenghtenings/interludes.
i only realized that after seeing how good caster cu is with koyan its a sad day but i still do have np 2 of him but no jaguar man i burned her long ago

In the future, I think there are mission rewards for ascending/leveling X no of servants. So always keep at least 1 copy of every servant.

Pulling the desired 5 star, akin to the first time heroine entered your veins. The dread, anxiety, and excitement as you see the gacha spin, as your quarts supply dwindle. Truly a unique hell we fgo players put ourselves through, no baby pity(unless you have ~900 summons) just fate, whether the servant arrives or not.
Man, that dude who said Taira was the worse GSSR on that banner must be the worse FGO player or something, like NP-ing on an invincible buffed enemy levels of bad.
Congrats on your pulls, I dump 200+ quartz and didn't get Koyanskaya and i hope to see more of fgo content from you cheers!

I kinda feel bad but i kinda got her accidentally when i pulled for second time, I didn't even wanted her.
I don't know why but every time i pull i either get new 4 star or 5 star. Now i have handful of 5 star and I'm a new player, I'm currently at okeanos lol.

In my first ever pull i got emiya(archer) and Elizabeth (lancer). It wasn't bad for me tbh.

Holy shit this was so intense, reminds me of my own pulls for Mordred when I was starting out! Spent like close to 900SQ on her and then had to farm more, she came on the last multi. Awesome content!

Just to put into perspective, he just did around 150 pulls. That's what the average number of pulls an AK player does on a banner before getting the rate up 6*
FGO gives the ilussion that it's worse because the summon animation is slow, and no one skips it. AK people see no flame bag and insta skip and go to another multi, so the 150 pulls go super fast and they don't feel the pain.
I logged in 6 days after anniv due to things so i missed a bulk of free sq. Thanfully i still got her within 20tix and 150sq

I started FGO thanks to Tamamo as well and I can proudly say she was my first 5 star in the game! She's NP4 maxed fou at 2k each and she's at 120!
Then Koyanskaya came out...
I used all the anniv quartz and got 4 copies!

As someone who is F2P (Besides GSSRs) I can understand missing out on your best girl, but congrats on pulling her! I got my best girl to NP 3 (Kingprotea) but that took 2 banners of her showing up and the first time around I was scared cause I was down to my last few pulls before getting 2 copies of her in the same roll. Good luck and have fun with your new floofy tailed friend.

The GSSR banners come twice a year; anniversary and new year. $15 worth of paid SQ twice a year for a guaranteed limited SSR and SR isn't bad, and you can even roll more than the guaranteed if you're lucky. Pulled two Kingprotea off of it most recently, and she was even my target for that banner.
Congrats on your successful waifu summon! The odds of an SSR in FGO are low, but it's so satisfying when things work out, and the anniversary is always a great time to roll since there's always a lot of tickets and SQ given around that time.
Taira-no-Kagekiyo is one of the many 'Holdout' servants and one of the better ones, despite being a Quick servant. You will appreciate her a LOT in LB 5.2 if you ever get there.
I'm going to apologize for this essay, it got out of hand lol.
Been playing FGO North American/NA server for about 5 years now and emergency maintenance is Not Normal, I think that's the first time its happened since I've been playing. And no, the rolls never get less intense, especially if you don't skip! Not sure if you've checked out the wiki yet, but the NA server is 2 years behind the Japanese/JP server and we follow their schedule pretty closely. It's really helpful for F2P and mostly F2P people (like you and me), you know what banners to save for and what to skip.
Not sure if anyone's mentioned this, but there are several ways to determine if you've gotten a 4 or 5 star from the gacha before seeing the character:
- if the spinny orbs have rainbows, its a 5 star
- if the spinny orbs are golden, its 4 or 5 star
- if the silver card is double-sided (like there's a lancer on the front and back), its a 4 or 5 star
- if the silver card stops and crackles golden, its a 4 or 5 star
- if the card is gold, its a 4 or 5 star
all of these are indicators for 4 or 5 star servants, there's indicator on what rarity CEs will be. FGO does have a pity system where if you do 300 rolls (not counting the extra roll you get from doing 10 singles or a multi) you're guaranteed to get the rate up 5 star. That's 900 sq btw. Tho tickets do count toward the 300 rolls.
also, also, pro-tip: if you care about making your account significantly stronger, use your free 5 star ticket to get Waver. If you don't care about mechanics, skip this paragraph and the next. If you care about mechanics, here's why Waver's a good option:
- Waver's skills will be applicable in every situation, his skills are a generic party-wide attack and defense up with a targeted crit damage up, he gives the party 20% np charge with an additional 30% charge to one ally and his np is AOE with a guaranteed np drain, chance to stun, % defense down tied to np level, and curse with damage tied to overcharge.
- Waver boosts party damage, defends the party, and has stall potential, all while being able to provide one party member with 50% charge and the rest of the party with 20% charge.
Tammy's great in her own ways, but her party charge is stuck to her own np and the amount is tied to overcharge; you'd have to have her at np2, at 200% overcharge and at the end of an np brave chain to give the party 50% charge. She cannot charge herself and has to rely on face cards, arts chains, and charge donation from other party members. Art's chains are unreliable and most dps servants don't have triple arts decks, charging from face cards is unreliable, and any charge you other servants can donate you'd want on your dps servant, not your support servant. She has party heals, but not party defense; healing looses relevance in the mid and late game - its a much better strategy to stack defense buffs (which Waver can help with) to mitigate large amounts of damage, burst down the enemy to end the fight quickly (which Waver can also help with), or lock the enemy out of doing massive damage by draining enemy np charge or stunning them (which Waver can also, also do). Tamamo does have a drain on a skill but it's only 100% and can miss if the enemy has resistance to it (this is common in the mid and late game); Waver's drain is guaranteed and you can potentially get it back much faster. Tamamo's only big niche that Waver can't touch is that she lowers skill cooldown for the party by 1 turn. This is great, it requires some planning ahead as you want to have her in an np brave chain to get the most np refund. As for dps skills, can give and np damage up to everyone but herself and can give a 50% arts but to one ally; imo, the damage that these provide is less valuable than a party wide attack boost in the form of Waver's party buff and AOE defense down on enemies.
From a game mechanics standpoint, Tammy offers some unique things, but she require the right team to take full advantage and you have to get a few nps off before the Tammy train really starts going. In the time it takes for a Tammy team to hit its stride, most other teams would already have the enemy taken care of. Waver works in every set up, his party charges are tied to skills, and doesn't take any set-up to get the most value out of him, there's a lot of immediacy with his utility. If you are planning to go F2P and want to make your life worlds easier, Waver is the way to go. For what it's worth, Tammy does have a yearly solo rate up on the valentines banner in February.
All that said, it's your account, your choice, and your waifu. Grab Tamamo if you really want her and screw everyone who disagrees. It's a gacha game and you get to play however you want. I just know that as F2P Waver made a huge difference in my account, from main story quests, to farming, to challenge quests. Even now there are times when I choose him over the more 'meta' picks like Castoria. Caster Tamamo was my very first 5 star - I YOLO'd a ticket in the story gacha and she showed up. She's good, and I did user her a lot back then, but I never had the correct set-up really get value work out of her. She's a servant that you have to build around, and that is not conducive for new accounts or F2P accounts. There were quite a few times when I tried to make a team with her work, only to cave and jury-rig some jank-as-hell abomination of a team to get the job done.
Sorry this got so long, but I thought it might be helpful. FGO is has some deep mechanics and it can be hard to figure out what you should spend your quartz and resources on, especially if you're new and don't know the systems. I know that I advocate for Waver a lot in this, but I mean what I said about your choice. If you want to go full waifu supremacy, more power to you!

I've saved for a year just to secure her pity, and I'm glad she came home earlier than expected. Now I'm planning to get Oberon as well for my ultimate Buster Farming Team along with Koyanskaya.

That's why if ur going to f2p route save at least 900sq and use our NA clairvoyance to predict who's going to be rate up in the future and plan.
Here some tips if you are playing the game for long term(non spoilers)
1. GO HERE fategrandorder fandom
2. Since you playing on NA, NA is behind JP by 2 years but NA may get QoL updates sooner. With this knowledge, you can prepare for future banners/events(use the site for more info)
3. The average amount of SQ you need to use to get a 5 star is around 300, they have a pseudo soft pity, you are guaranteed a 4* in each multi(that can mean a 4* or 5* CE or a 4* or 5* servant). If you want hard pity, you need 990 SQ, 330 tickets, or a mix between both(warning, if the banner change IN ANY WAY, your pity is reset, if there are 2 5* on the banner, it with be a 50 50)
4. Use your friend points(it's like recruitment on arknights), this is how you can get your 1-3 stars, 2 very rare 4* and a rare 0*.
5. Servants goes in these categories: normal(you can roll them in any banner), story lock(you can only roll them in the story banner or when they get a special banner) and limited (you have a time period to roll them until they are gone for a time)(there are ALOT of limited banners. CEs also fit in these categories.
6. When it comes to farming, you mainly want to 3 turn it so optimize your team to do so, this means getting of your NP each turn with little to no randomness.
7. Highly recommend NOT to delete servants or CEs, even if you don't like them, they may prove useful later.
8. When you get a servant, they may have interludes or strengthening quest for you to do but you may need to do one of the following to do it: increase their ascensions, increase their bond, or complete more of the story. Doing these quests will help them get stronger and gives you SQs and materials.
9. Speaking of materials, you may hear the word "lottos", these events are for farming a currency to open a box filled with stuff you may need(these events usually come out twice a year, after the newest summer event and Christmas).
10. There are reruns but JP is slowly getting rid of them so farm them until you get the welfare(if there is one).
11. Make sure to explore da vinci work shop
12. Fgo gameplay is turn base rock paper scissors: effective (you do more damage and sometimes take less from that enemy),
Weak (you do less damage and sometimes take more), and neutral (you can guess)(there should be a button on your servant team that tells you who's weak/strong against what class).
13. When you are in battle, you can tap the enemy icon(or was it health bar) to see the type of buff/debuff they have(later on, you will have to worry about breakable health bars and permanent buff/debuff).
14. Grails help increase the stats of a servant.
15. If you see Cu Chulainn(not proto Cu) and or Heracles, they will carry you through the story.
16. Do you master missions to get more free stuff.
17. When making a team, you will see a cost on the bottom, everyone and every CE will cost a set amount (beside Mashu, her cost will be Zero) so be careful. The more you rank up you master levels, the bigger the number.
18. Pick the right mystic code for your fight to increase your chances of winning.
19. When you are in battle, next to your character icon are your command seals, use them wisely, it take a whole day to get them back.
20. (Very important) when you are in combat, if the enemy wipe out your frontline and you had something to stop it, close the game quick before its your turn again. When you get back into battle again, it will be your turn BEFORE you got dusted, use this info. Also, if you party got killed, you can revive them with 3 command seals or one SQ.
That is all, hope this helps and if you have any questions, go to that site and it should be there.
Edit: 21. I think NA right now have a permanent "pick your 5*", I recommend 2 things, pick 1 you like or pick waver if you don't have him, he WILL make your time in the game less painful with the buffs he can give.

You kinda wasted your SQs no? I mean sure, she has a damage NP but she is heavy support focused so NP1 was enough, more so with Oberon around the corner. I got her on a single and that was the end.
