    Hei Oliver, I've been following your videos for a couple of years now, and the information you provide is incredibly useful, however I have a question:
    As far as I can tell, all your videos are aimed at people who want to study undergraduate or masters degrees (which makes sense), but I am hoping to come to Finland for a few months to intensively study the Finnish language (I've been learning Finnish in the UK for the past 3 years), possibly with the intention of moving to Finland later.
    Do you (or any of your existing videos) have any advice for people in my position?
    Paljon kiitoksia!

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 года назад +1

      Hi Shireen and thanks for the great question! Municipal education in Finland is free of charge when it is taught in Finnish or Swedish. However, public education does not cover English taught education from primary school to high school. Rather, if you want your children to do their school in English, you have to get them into a private school. These do have tuition fees and they depend on each individual school. Here are two examples:
      International school of Helsinki: ishelsinki.fi/fee-schedule-2019-2020/
      European school of Helsinki: www.eshelsinki.com/join-us
      About the health insurance, this is a tough one and id prefer not to give any advice here. I simply dont have enough information to give you an informed answer. Its also such an important question that i dont want to start guessing. Unfortunately i dont know where to start looking for this information either so cant really help you here 😕

    I found your videos very useful. I just have a question that I had the PTE score which meets the requirement of Aalto University, but it is only a few points higher than that. Do you think I should get a higher score or apply using my current test result?

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 года назад +2

      Hey and thanks for the question. Also sorry for the delay in my answer. I get quite a lot of comments these days and it takes me a while to get back to everyone.
      Unfortunately its pretty difficult for me to say much about this topic. The issue here is that universities in Finland rarely publish the actual minimum requirements or scores for admission and this means that anything i say here is based on guesswork. I basically dont have any benchmarks that i could use to compare your numbers. Thus, i would say that if you feel unsure about your exam scores AND you are able to retake the exam, this is something that you should perhaps consider. However, before you do this, please do you own research and try to recheck the Aalto website for any clues about whether or not this matters.

    Ufff, as a foreigner but member of the UE, I'll try in January to apply to some course of studies. For this moment, I can only apply to the ones that don't require the SAT (because I haven't taken that specific test as It's not common in my country).
    Manily some UAS's reserve some slots by evaluating with an exam , apart from the slots saved by doing the SAT.
    If I can't get a slot for 2021, I'll guess I'll have to do the SAT on 2021 in order to apply in 2022 to a broader offer of universities & UAS's.

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 года назад

      This is an unfortunately wide spread problem and i really dont understand how the SAT's are not available in more countries - especially considering how commonly they are used in university admissions around the world... I do hope that you get in this year so that you dont have to do the SAT's. Did you already decide to which schools and degree programmes you'd be applying to?

    • @kundogb
      @kundogb 3 года назад +1

      @@RoadtoFinnish Well, for the time being I'm living in Spain so I will have to choose an online / distance course of studies. It also has to be in english and that has an application option besides SAT.
      When you combine these variables and also the fact that I want an IT career, I only found 2 options in Laurea UAS. I guess I'll try my luck with those :)

    For Aalto university design programs, you need to know finland language and have european citizen. Is that true? Are there any Turkmen students?

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 года назад

      Hey Ata and thanks so much for the excellent question! If you apply for an English taught design programme at Aalto, you do not have to have any Finnish language skills, nor do you have to be a EU citizen. If you apply for the Finnish language programmes, you have to be pretty much a native Finnish speaker BUT you do not have to be a EU citizen. So this information about having to be a EU citizen is false.
      To your final question, i do not unfortunately know if there are any Turkmen studying at the Aalto school of arts and design. I dont see any reason why not but im not 100% certain. Its a big school 🙃
      I hope this answered your questions 👍

    Please answer my question as I am interested to apply for master but I found very few program related to my studies so I am planning to apply for bachelor degree which I am interested to do with direct application..
    My question is can I apply for direct application and joint application at the same time for bachelor and master?
    Because I don't want to loose this time period that's why planning to apply for both in case i m selected for master as there is only one program..

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 года назад

      Hey and thanks for the great question! I would need to know the exact programme you are applying to but a generalised answer to your question is no, you cannot apply to one programme with both a separate and joint application. This is simply because each programme has its own application period and application method and i do not know of any programmes that would be applied to using both the separate and joint application.
      I can give you more detailed information if you share with me the university and the exact degree programme that you are applying for. However a general rule of thumb is that separate applications are used for English taught Master's programmes while joint application are used for English taught Bachelor's programmes. So using this logic you will have to apply using the joint applications that open up in January. Again, i would need to know the exact programme that you are applying to give you a 100% correct answer.

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 года назад

      Hey Deniz and thanks for the question! My understanding is that you will still need to have sufficient funds on your bank account before moving to Finland. You simply dont have to have the money for the tuition. The Migri simply wants to make sure that everyone who moves to the country (whether they are EU citizens or not) have sufficient funds to live here so that they dont have to rely on the government for financial support.

      Hey pinkki milky and happy new year to you as well! Yes, you are correct in that the part about tuition fees only applies to non EU or non EAA residents. • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  3 года назад

      I already answered this in another comment but here is a copy and paste of my answer:
      You will be required to pay tuition fees if you are applying to English taught bachelor's or master's degree as a non EU or non EEA (European Economic Area) citizen. There are no tuition fees for doctoral programmes.
      Having said this, it is my understanding that there are no English taught bachelors or masters degrees in psychology in Finland. All of the degrees in this field are currently being taught in Finnish and you need to be pretty much fluent in the Finnish language in order to apply for these programmes.
      Again, this is according to my understanding and this might change in the future as more programmes are offered in English.

      I actually answered this in another video but ill copy and paste my answer here if anyone else were to read this:
      No, you cant apply with both joint and separate applications at the same time (at least not to the same school). This is because the separate and joint application processes happen at different times and are used for different degrees. E.g. applications to most Master's degrees are done using the separate application while most Bachelor's degrees use the joint application.
