I think there's an initial attack in the setup, before the turns start. Did I miss that?

No you are correct, oversight on my end.
After Roles are chosen draw one Alert from the top of the Alert deck. Read the card aloud and resolve its effects.

@@MeepleBits -- Then you repeat that four more times, for a total of five alerts before you play.

@@Dudemon-1 while I did skip this in the setup, I double checked and it does just say one alert.

@@MeepleBits "After Roles are chosen draw one Alert from the top of the Alert deck. Read the card aloud and resolve its effects. For example: if an Alert takes a System offline, flip over that System card and read the “offline” side of it. Repeat this process 4 more times, for a total of 5 Alerts. See “Alerts” (Pg. 10) for details"
From the manual itself, and the video game adaptation does the same thing. 5 alerts to start with.

@@MeepleBits Maybe it depends on what version of the rule book you have, but version 1.1 (which is what came with my copy of the game) reads as follows on page 5 in the "Before You Begin" section: "After Roles are chosen draw one Alert from the top of the Alert deck. Read the card aloud and resolve its effects. [Shows example] Repeat this process 4 more times, for a total of 5 Alerts."

Thanks for the video, but the resolution on your camera means I can't read the cards :(

Thanks, the cam resolution is 1080, but focusing on the cards was a challenge. I appreciate the feedback, and I will definitely have this type of stuff resolved :)
