The reason I sent this is is because I think all of these artists deserve some real feedback. They all worked hard and at that time XXL was lacking in the cypher game. It was cool to see all kinds of people from gamers to youtubers to streamers to rappers/singers all come together to make a cypher and bring back the fun of it all. So what Token meant with the bar is that because you're not in the Sword and Shield Pokédex you're hating because you can't get into the game. btw, you're referring to the card game a lot. These cyphers actually have little references to the card game, it's mainly referencing the video games and anime.

Not so much the cards. For example: Pokedex aka Dex isn't a "deck" of cards. It's a digital encyclopedia used to track when you encounter new pokemon. In the Pokemon games on of the goals is to fill the dex (by seeing a new species) and to literally catch them all. Most of the number references are the pokemons number in the dex. Anything with TM or HM in front of it is skill/move that pokemon used to do combat with. TM and HM's let you teach pokemon moves in the games. If you don't play the games you're going to have a hard time understanding the references. Highly recommend playing one of the newer games on the Switch.

Like every single bar is pokemon related but if you know nothing about pokemon past the names of the old ones, 98% of everything here is gonna go completely over your head cuz you only hear the literal meaning of what they are saying and missing all the double entendres where they are referencing some deep cut shit related to stuff like the meta game, and specific moves and abilities and items. Like for example, when shofu says everybody 31 ain't got no trash in the box, it's referring to the hidden stat values of pokemon called IVs in the games and every pokemon has an IV value in each stat ranging from 0-31. So a Pikachu with 10 special attack IVs will have a lower special attack stat than a Pikachu with a perfect 31, which will give it the highest possible number a Pikachu could have in that stat. So he's saying everyone in his group has all perfect stats, implying they are all super high caliber rappers and none of them are trash. The whole cypher is just full of bars like this that are so easy to miss if you dont play pokemon for real but if you realize what they are really saying, you realize some of these dudes are fucking TALKING.

A lot of this is going to go way over the heads of folks not familiar with current Pokemon and not just because you arent familiar with the names of newer Pokemon like you said, it's deeper than that. A lot of these guys are into the semi-pro to pro battling scene (or at leadt pay attention to it) and a lot of bars reference moves, stats, abilities, items, matchups etc. that there's just no way of catching without context. Even knowing Pokemon pretty well I always have to watch reactions to catch stuff cause some of these dudes are talking about some way more technical stuff than a casual fan would. 2024 has a lot more of that type of wordplay if you guys were considering checking it out.
