This misconception keeps getting carried on. The NIV Bible doesn't have less of the bible, the KJV has extra passages. They're both translated from the same source. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the NIV of the Bible.
I think the black screen is for sleeping. It helps to reduce over stimulation to your mind as you drift off. I'm sure there are versions online without the black screen if that's what you seek.
