Thought it was incredible, watched it twice in three days. A sad movie overall but quite beautiful too, very much stays with you after watching it and the acting is perfect
One of the most beautiful dramas I've watched in the past two decades, completely astonished at Cosmo Jarvis's killer performance and his character's moral nuance So far it's one of my favorite films of this year
Saw this at the London Film Festival 2019 - it was very well shot with great cast and well directed. The story is in the Scorsese 'Mean Streets' vein, with the main character attempting to fight against the violence and crimes he wants to escape.
This was a surprise for me. Not because I thought it would be bad, but it was a very spontaneous watch: I saw it online, it sounded interesting, and not 30 minutes later started watching it. And honestly was blown away with only a couple small nitpicks I can really think of. So effective with amazing acting and a fantastic soundtrack (if you havent listened to Blanck Mass, definitely check out his other work if you liked the score here). I haven't heard enough about this film and it's a shame because it is one of the best I've seen for a while.
Watched it today. Brilliant film : amazing performances from Cosmo Jarvis and all involved. Riveting, heartbreaking, tender and intense. Best film of 2020
I've just came back from catching this film pretty much by chance. I went to see Misbehaviour earlier and wanted to catch something else and saw this advertised. Didn't know anything about it. What a powerful film. Great review. You really felt for Douglas right early on. The scenes from right before the car chase had me gripped you didn't know what was going to happen. Even when I left the theatre the film really stuck with me. Very emotional.
Really want to see this, looks fantastic, also very interested because of the Blanck Mass score. Gonna be responsible and stay at home though, so I hope to see it on streaming services soon.
Everything about this film is phenomenal, from the acting, writing and cinematography to the incredible soundtrack. Cosmo's performance is breathtaking.
It does sound great (and Mark does a great job talking about the acting & use of colour, I love his reviews when they're like this) - but I just don't know if I could stomach all the violence. I've got a lower tolerance for it lately, it's just so ugly and stays in my head.
I'm watching all the BIFA nominees for best film to see which one beats Saint Maud (none of them have done it SO FAR personally) but this one was so bloody powerful, intense and intimate. I feel no need to compare the films now, watching them for what they are is the most rewarding experience. However saying that, I am in love with Saint Maud, it's truly magnificent. I love British cinema!
Gotta say, loved this film, saw it last night and as Mark says, it really sucks you in. Touches on many aspects of what is wrong in society but also shows that to make a difference you need to break the chain. Highly recommended this film, gritty, brutal and very emotional, please watch it.
I agree in respect to the car chase scene. This director showed a real flash of genius there. But I didn't care for the movie overall. I thought it was too melodramatic and depressing.
Interesting, often overlooked population and life portrayed in this film. That being said, I think the movie fell dreadfully short of its true potential. I watched with interest and was surprised by the believable and realistic characters - both Arm and Dymphna are well-acted and come across as authentic. the story, however, is somewhat lost from the very beginning. If we are to believe the previews, we will be given a rare look into the loyalty and personal issues these local, mid-level criminals deal with. Sounds good. And it could have been. The viewer is left feeling like he keeps walking in on different, related stories. Who are the Devers really? How did these people come to be in their situations? Or is the story about Arm and Dymphna, or is it about Arm, his girlfriend and their autistic child? Will arm act out in racist fashion and bash the black guy? We are carefully led to believe that. Plot drop. Te whole concept surrounding the therapy horses is a non-issue in the movie, for all practical purposes. There are too many mini-dramas occurring while a main plot line becomes impossible to find. 4 out of 10, sadly.
It's basically a weaker Pusher 2 Arm is Tonny shot beautifully by Piers mcGrail and the score by Blanck Mass is an amazing soundscape but the story is the weak.
The last scene with Arm on the sofa in one long take was really impressive.
I thought the same thing
The last film that had this sort of impact on me was Dead Man's Shoes
Very powerful scene for me
And when she tells him on the phone that she got the job
Ive ben depressed ever since.

Is it pushing it to say Cosmo Jarvis has a Brando level presence?
Saw this back in November at the Leeds Film Festival. It really is a powerful film and Cosmo Jarvis is terrific.
The best film I've seen this year. Cosmo and Niamh are brilliant together.
The tension throughout the film is incredible. Amazing film.

I've one thing to be grateful for, from the latest version of Persuasion. It introduced me to the amazingly talented, Cosmo Jarvis.
Are you watching shogun?
@@14AspenDrive no.
Delighted to hear about a great Irish film, we don't produce too many of them here. Also cool to see the girl from The Virtues again.
Arm is English believe it or not.
@@fandangobrandango7864 hes also American born of Armenian descent but you wont know that either from his part in the film

Just noticed it on Netflix. I would have passed it over had I not remembered Mark's review.

just sit on your own
Just sit on my face
This film was absolutely phenomenal, I was thoroughly gripped throughout it. And the acting was top notch too, I recommend this to everyone!
The acting in this movie was incredible, really sucked me in 😎
The actress in this is very good, hope she makes it into Hollywood
She's in Ridley Scott's Raised by Wolves in case you didn't already know :-)
So is Cosmo incidentally
@Sean Lock she played a normal person, which is the hardest role to play.
I hope she avoids all that nonsense and keeps doing genre films.
Watched this last night and thought it was amazing. The two lead actors were great and the sound track suited the film perfectly
Definitely want to see it❗❗❗ Thanks.
Where can you watch this

agreed 100%

Great performance and soundtrack, and yeah was also surprised with the car chase considering the director wanting to make it on a small budget.
its amazing.....the kid Barry is some actor, they all are
Agreed. This was really something special.
Was good to see Cosmo make an appearance in the gloriously ridiculous Raised By Wolves. Its worth a watch if u enjoy bombastic sci fi

Just watched this on Netflix and I thought it was wonderful.

Very powerful film - great performances
I thought it was brilliant. The car chase scene was directed incredibly. Highly recommend!
Brilliant film, great leads. A must watch.
Brilliant film cosmo jarvis was quality as arm and the music wow
Nice videos❤❤❤❤❤❤
Recognnize young man from dunkirk movie!
Barry is going to be the best Billy the Kid ever - hope he does justice to the real person and not Pat Garrets version of events
I thought the acting and aesthetics were great, but the storyline was just a bit too weak.
