This is nothing, last night I caught my wife watching XQC on Kick 😂 From joking to being serious when I was little my mom only bought me mario and donkey kong while my neighbor had all the games he wanted, that was my first taste of real jealousy.
I met up with a woman for a date and she saw I had a framed original Final Fantasy 7 poster. We got matching Cloud sprite tattoos when we got married and are still going strong 13 years later.
I'm 53, and I think it's cute when 40 year olds call themselves "old." You don't realize how young you were until you look back ten years.... 😀 Thanks for the videos!

Having a gamer significant other does have a FEW downsides. 1. nobody has your exact tastes. You want to play one thing, they want to play something else. this leads to point 2. You think being a gamer is expensive, try being a family of 2 or MORE gamers! so now you need ANOTHER gaming rig, or another console and tv setup. And they don't want the shitty old stuff, they want the new hotness just like YOU DO. Holy crap that 4080 is expensive, but now you have to buy 2 of them! I currently have to maintain 4 yes 4 gaming computers. at least 2 of which are high end. I bought 3 copies of Destiny 2 at one point. When Animal crossing came out during covid, we nearly had to buy another Switch until we worked out a schedule. 3. Gamer couples have gamer kids. This adds up!
As a gamer I can clearly state: you ain't a gamer if you need others to game or to watch you playing (twitch trash). I play 5 hours a day...nearly every day .. for 30 years now. Why the fuXk would I need someone to play with me or to watch me playing?
Kids get the shitty old stuff. Period. Don't spoil them. Make them grateful for nice things when they can finally have them. Mom and Dad make the money and get the high end goods. When you make the money, you can get the high end stuff too. Sit yo ass down, child.

Been playing since before console. Was a huge board game player in my youth. Moved onto arcade then the consoles and PCs. I am lucky that my son is also a huge gamer as well so I always have someone to play with and talk games with. No one else in my large family understand what we see in the hobby. I'm 56 and have been gaming since Atari console and Amiga PC days, both my sons are into their gaming (pc and console) but the rest of my family are saying "grow up, why you playing stupid games at your age". It’s the lack of time to play games for me. Between working full time and having three kids under the age of four, the time simply doesn’t exist or I am mentally fried. I’ve been reading the same book since February, and just picked up my first game of the year because I’m on maternity leave and will occasionally sacrifice sleep.

My very first job i was 13 and it was mowing lawns for my landlord. I made 10 bucks every job and i saved up enough to buy a Sega Genesis. It was the first thing I ever bought with my own money.
Having a backlog is awesome if you are patient and don't care about being current. Will save you a ton of money on software and hardware. All the DLCs are out and like 99% of the bugs are patched and the ones that aren't are known and have solid work arounds.
I personally find all the RGB lighting to be to distracting. I'm perfectly content with a standard non-smart 40" 1080p TV. For me it's about gameplay and story, not so much hyper realistic graphics. Those crazy setups look cool, but it's just not for me.

Live hell, I still have my NES that I opened Christmas morning. Never sold, still works. My HS friend still has hers too, still plays SMB-3 with her kids on occasion. Interestingly, my wife doesn't like to play video games much, but SMB3? She'll play that.

Both are in boxes with the only games she owned, being Final Fantasy VI and Dragon uest titles. But yes indeed, living through the NES era and being able to play systems before that like the Fairchild Channel F or Atari 2600 and then experiencing the growth of the industry from nerd culture to mainstream cool "nerd" culture.
Come May 7th 2025 I'll be 70. I'm strictly a PC gamer with about 60 games from a couple of old DOS games to FarCry 6, (I only play first person games) and a lot more games from GOG. As far as owning arcade games it was way more fun playing them in an actual arcade as it cost money to play and it was more satisfying when you set a high score. I was (am) a pinball player so if want an expensive hobby..... for those of you who are pinball players I played some 25 hole pinball games. Man I'd sure like to play those again. I accidentally started a war between me and my gaming friends. It has fizzled out over they years but they couldn't get over the fact that I got a better PC than all of them one time and everyone started racing to keep up/beat my set up. It was a bit moronic but it is what it is lol. In the U.K. there's now a business called arcade club, they aren't everywhere but they have multiple floors of old arcade machines and pinball and modern stuff. It's a good thing, you pay to get in and all the games are free to play.
Till this day i still want a king of fighters 98 and mvc 2 cabinets when i have a house just like grandma did at her house growing up early 2000s. Good times man

My backlog is massive and it's not really from a lack of free time. I have trouble just picking 1 game and playing it, especially all the way through. I also went crazy on steam sales for a few years so I have WAY too many now.

About a year ago i made my dream of a simracing rig a reality. Its nothing mega fancy, but its a real cockpit, 49 inch ultrawide screen, Direct drive wheelbase. It wasnt cheap, but omg the satisfatcion of finally making my childhood dream a reality!

#1 jealousy I have is: friends who share your taste and actually got time to play with you. My friends love stuff I don't care about and vice versa. Only common ground is Mario Kart. Even the times there was something multiple friends were interested in, actually finding a moment all of us had time to play was hard.
As a PC gamer the only thing that really makes me jealous is when a great game comes out on PlayStation first and I have to wait 12-18 months for a PC port. Looking at you GTA 6

I literally started my own business to ensure future gaming for the entire family. I buy physical copies and consoles like I buy stock- calculated but often.
The home arcade is the dream. To just flip the switch and the cacophony of noise from the different cabinets trying to get your quarters like a street vendor.... glorious.
Number 4: As someone who is part of this group, I think it would be safe to say on behave of everyone that with every passing year, it has become more and more frustrating because tech companies keep making products that are more difficult and/or next to impossible to fix (and more expensive) -apple- *cough* -tesla- *cough*
I did number #3. Build a huge ass RPG which took around 10 years from concept to completion. Learned a lot and I'm really grateful for the experience. Helped me greatly in my professional life. Game dev can be exhausting, but publishing is a whole other story. The game will get same fans, some haters, but you're also, and mostly, met with a lot of indifference on an oversated market. It's a psychologically very demanding experience. Publishing a game, even when it is just a hobby product and free of charge, is serious business. Perhaps we'll one day see a top 10 list of game dev struggles?
There’s a distinction between having a job/making money, and having “disposable income” (and free/spare time). When I was in high school/community college, I had a pizza delivery job, still lived with one of my parents (therefore didn’t have to pay rent or groceries), so most of my income could be considered of the disposable type. I could drive up to the mall every week and get a new game if I wanted. I could get whatever snack foods sparked my fancy. My primary expenses were gas (which was just over $1 per gallon, before the BP oil spill BS, which they used as an excuse to triple the price 🤬), and occasional car repairs because of the wear and tear pizza delivery put on it… I miss the days I didn’t have to pay rent, insurance, utilities, etc, while trying to save some money for emergencies. I have much less disposable income now even though I make about 3 times as much overall income… Edit: For me, the PS1 was the first console that could play an authentic arcade quality game. I played “arcade ports” as far back as Atari and while they could approximate the simpler games like Joust or Pac-Man; they were clearly a step down graphically and in terms of control interface. The NES had ports like the TMNT: Arcade game which barely resembled the actual arcade version. It was a huge deal when Street Fighter 2 was getting ported to SNES/Sega Genesis/etc consoles, and which system was going to be the better version. I went with SNES. The same thing happened with Mortal Kombat, although that wound up being more a comparison of which retained the gratuitous violence (the Genesis version). NBA Jam was another big port that recreated the experience in only the most tangential way. The ports were so subpar that my friends and I would still go to the arcades to play, even after one of us had gotten the console versions 😢
Keep in mind, that there are those arcade cabinets that are like 3 or 400 bucks that you can get at Walmart. They’re supposed to be those easy put together arcade cabinets that you always seen in the electronic section.

My gamertag was the first one on XBOX, before the 360, that had spaces between each word. Before the change, spaces were used like commas (for example: when you're setting up tags for videos), and my gamertag would show up as 3 players in SOCOM matches. Once the 360 was released, the flair was gone, but I never changed my gamertag since.

I think that you missed a really important one: having friends to play any game with. I'm greatful that I have a group of friends to play some games together, but I wish we could expand. Unfortunately some of them have the money issues mentioned in the video, not enough to have a powerful PC, not enough to get games early, not enough time to play... I'm glad I got the money and the time, but the reality is that not everyone has the same luck, so all the moments with the homies are pure gold.

Having a backlog is awesome if you are patient and don't care about being current. Will save you a ton of money on software and hardware. All the DLCs are out and like 99% of the bugs are patched and the ones that aren't are known and have solid work arounds.

I personally find all the RGB lighting to be to distracting. I'm perfectly content with a standard non-smart 40" 1080p TV. For me it's about gameplay and story, not so much hyper realistic graphics. Those crazy setups look cool, but it's just not for me.

I'm 40 too, Falcon. I feel great, I game daily, and most importantly, we got to live through the NES era.
Live hell, I still have my NES that I opened Christmas morning. Never sold, still works. My HS friend still has hers too, still plays SMB-3 with her kids on occasion. Interestingly, my wife doesn't like to play video games much, but SMB3? She'll play that.
@@mikeriley1475 My wife still has her Famicon and Superfamicon. Albeit there were a bit different connections in Japan so we can't really use it. Both are in boxes with the only games she owned, being Final Fantasy VI and Dragon uest titles. But yes indeed, living through the NES era and being able to play systems before that like the Fairchild Channel F or Atari 2600 and then experiencing the growth of the industry from nerd culture to mainstream cool "nerd" culture.

Come May 7th 2025 I'll be 70. I'm strictly a PC gamer with about 60 games from a couple of old DOS games to FarCry 6, (I only play first person games) and a lot more games from GOG. As far as owning arcade games it was way more fun playing them in an actual arcade as it cost money to play and it was more satisfying when you set a high score. I was (am) a pinball player so if want an expensive hobby..... for those of you who are pinball players I played some 25 hole pinball games. Man I'd sure like to play those again. I accidentally started a war between me and my gaming friends. It has fizzled out over they years but they couldn't get over the fact that I got a better PC than all of them one time and everyone started racing to keep up/beat my set up. It was a bit moronic but it is what it is lol. In the U.K. there's now a business called arcade club, they aren't everywhere but they have multiple floors of old arcade machines and pinball and modern stuff. It's a good thing, you pay to get in and all the games are free to play.

My backlog is massive and it's not really from a lack of free time. I have trouble just picking 1 game and playing it, especially all the way through. I also went crazy on steam sales for a few years so I have WAY too many now.

As a 55 yo gamer who remembers playing f'ing 1st-gen games like Avalanche and Tank in those old, dank caves of the early arcades, I can say that everything on this list is on point. Especially about having the financial means to play and do whatever but the time & mental energy needed to complete that dream is, um, hard to schedule-in. About a year ago i made my dream of a simracing rig a reality. Its nothing mega fancy, but its a real cockpit, 49 inch ultrawide screen, Direct drive wheelbase. It wasnt cheap, but omg the satisfatcion of finally making my childhood dream a reality!

as a retired electronics tech who has always built my own game rigs, I am jealous of the guys that have all the toys to reball and repair GPU's. There is always someone that has something you want.
As someone who grew up only able to play games bought for $5 at garage sales, due to financial and family responsibilities, #6 hits home.
Number 8 - In my town we have Europe's biggest indoor arcade :D pay the entrance fee and then all the games are free too :)

#1 jealousy I have is: friends who share your taste and actually got time to play with you. My friends love stuff I don't care about and vice versa. Only common ground is Mario Kart. Even the times there was something multiple friends were interested in, actually finding a moment all of us had time to play was hard.

I did number #3. Build a huge ass RPG which took around 10 years from concept to completion. Learned a lot and I'm really grateful for the experience. Helped me greatly in my professional life.
Game dev can be exhausting, but publishing is a whole other story. The game will get same fans, some haters, but you're also, and mostly, met with a lot of indifference on an oversated market. It's a psychologically very demanding experience. Publishing a game, even when it is just a hobby product and free of charge, is serious business.
Perhaps we'll one day see a top 10 list of game dev struggles?
There’s a distinction between having a job/making money, and having “disposable income” (and free/spare time).
When I was in high school/community college, I had a pizza delivery job, still lived with one of my parents (therefore didn’t have to pay rent or groceries), so most of my income could be considered of the disposable type.
I could drive up to the mall every week and get a new game if I wanted. I could get whatever snack foods sparked my fancy. My primary expenses were gas (which was just over $1 per gallon, before the BP oil spill BS, which they used as an excuse to triple the price 🤬), and occasional car repairs because of the wear and tear pizza delivery put on it…
I miss the days I didn’t have to pay rent, insurance, utilities, etc, while trying to save some money for emergencies. I have much less disposable income now even though I make about 3 times as much overall income…
Edit: For me, the PS1 was the first console that could play an authentic arcade quality game. I played “arcade ports” as far back as Atari and while they could approximate the simpler games like Joust or Pac-Man; they were clearly a step down graphically and in terms of control interface. The NES had ports like the TMNT: Arcade game which barely resembled the actual arcade version.
It was a huge deal when Street Fighter 2 was getting ported to SNES/Sega Genesis/etc consoles, and which system was going to be the better version. I went with SNES. The same thing happened with Mortal Kombat, although that wound up being more a comparison of which retained the gratuitous violence (the Genesis version). NBA Jam was another big port that recreated the experience in only the most tangential way. The ports were so subpar that my friends and I would still go to the arcades to play, even after one of us had gotten the console versions 😢
Grandma's Boy is a perfect example for #3. I was always jealous of the main character for being able to make a completely original game 😂

First, those are massive quarter wheels of gourmet cheese up for sale at a grocery store which is not seen often and basically heaven. Second, the guy throwing multiple in his cart is my hero now.

My gamertag was the first one on XBOX, before the 360, that had spaces between each word.
Before the change, spaces were used like commas (for example: when you're setting up tags for videos), and my gamertag would show up as 3 players in SOCOM matches.
Once the 360 was released, the flair was gone, but I never changed my gamertag since.
As someone who is piss poor, I can relate to all of these. 😢

I think that you missed a really important one: having friends to play any game with. I'm greatful that I have a group of friends to play some games together, but I wish we could expand. Unfortunately some of them have the money issues mentioned in the video, not enough to have a powerful PC, not enough to get games early, not enough time to play... I'm glad I got the money and the time, but the reality is that not everyone has the same luck, so all the moments with the homies are pure gold.
