Samsung Z TriFold Review: Huge BUT Flawed

  • Published on Mar 8, 2026
  • I finally got my hands on the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold and here's my full review! It was super interesting and fun to use it...but my experience wasn't without some hidden flaws. The TriFold costs more than a flagship phone + flagship tablet (or even laptop) combined 😬 Do you think it could be worth it?

    the best thing about is it the fact that while it is samsung's first tri-fold, they've already matured in the foldable category so it actually feels like a "proper" product and not a concept product released to test the waters.

    100% BEST post yet on the Tri Fold. Thank YOU. luv how you edit too.. the little circle of you popping up in the upper right while showing the device, the outfit changes... it really makes a big difference, and allows for a longer more detailed and meaningful review.. which this device deserves . Amazing job for an amazing phone.

    I hope the next iteration has the main cameras on the back of the middle panel. I feel like the folding mechanism will feel more natural rather than the rolling to the right style fold. Plus having magsafe or mounting it in the center would be better too.

      Samsung has already unveiled its seamless screen technology focuses on eliminating visible creases in foldables, reducing bezels in display walls, and enhancing motion clarity in smartphones at CES 2026 in Vegas. And the next generation of the Z Trifold will come with it. (They also sold the technology to Apple, since Samsung Display produces all Apple's screens devices).

    I'm pretty sure the TriFold comes with a preinstalled AR screen protector on the cover display that's the same as the anti-reflective screen protector sold separately for the Z Fold 7. You can see the edges in the video. Which is nice, but it'll probably get scratched pretty quickly like the ZF7 one does.

    Samsung needs to give a special trade in offer to those of us who bought the z fold 7 but really wanted what the tri fold is. When i bought my z fold 7 in november, i really wanted a larger screen (tablet/phone) like the trifold.

    @VaporSprite 14 days ago

    Great review! I am VERY drawn to the Trifold for the multimedia capabilities, but I would actually get less out of it because it's that much more cumbersome than my Fold7.
    I think the real next step won't be adding a second home, rather having the phone open up then unroll the inner display by spreading the halves. That way, you can have a Fold7-like experience, or choose to expand it further. Super complex to get right, though...

    If it had Bluetooth s pen, 6 speakers w Bower Wilkins Subwoofer, 100 x zoom, 217 grams, more colors, micro sd card, anti reflection both screens, ir blaster, few of those things it would be the greatest phone of all time, with their next ultra version theres some work to be done at a 2900 price point same value as my Asus Zephyrus g16 5070 ti gaming laptop that plays Mario Galaxy 1, 2 at 60 fps

    I prefer the Huawei Mate XTs. Faster charging, much better cameras, bigger brighter screen, pen support, better resolution, and it comes with a rotating kickstand case that protects the entire phone. Amazing, considering in the UK it costs £650 ($889) cheaper than Samsung's Tri fold.

    What an amazing video very detailed and deep dive explanation of the Galaxy trifold. Now. The question is is a device really worth it for the price. They're asking because here at least to me it wasn't a big factor when I upgraded to the Z fold seven, but here it could be because you're getting a 10-in display experience with the lack of S Pen support which that would have made the phone a bit more amazing of a work course, and the other thing is how many people are going to have 50% which is the discount they're offering to repair the device because it doesn't have or come with any insurance and you're getting it with the same internals of the fold seven the same rear cameras and you are borrowing crafted black from the special edition z-fold six. Once again, is it worth it? Will anybody have all that type of money to repair it in case it breaks as folding screens are still fragile.

The mate xts has an incredible pen with incredible groundbreaking technology. I have the mate Z6 and weekly. The xts is getting closer and closer in its software usage in terms of what the Z can do. My only limitation is my ability to figure it out

    I'm pretty happy with the Z Fold 7 so far and will wait for a significant upgrade with the crease/cameras/etc. before moving on to the next one. A larger screen alone (and an extra $1000) won't do it for me. Also, I've been shouting from the rooftops for months that the ZF7 battery life is actually really good, nice to see some validation here.

    If I had the money I'd ditch Apple for this but the lack of pen support feels like an own goal. Perhaps they were thinking people would just connect a keyboard. This would completely negate the need to travel with a laptop if you're away for a few weeks tbh.

      It does not operate as a laptop just a tablet even on dexmode. Samsung tabs and phone were similar to laptops with dexmode until they messed up with the latest ui 8.0. Its so frustrating for us samsung users. Still this trifold is impressive

      @mcmach1I actually spent the majority of my time on pen up when I had the Z fold six on my spare time creating art and posting it for the community something you can't do with fold seven neither the trifold because there is no stylist. That's perfect like the S Pen and in my opinion. It's a Miss opportunity that could make the trifold a little better.

    I use iPhone for personal use and the S25 Ultra for work, (both 1TB storage).
    But I’d happily switch only having the tri-fold, IF the price was a bit more reasonable and the battery can last all day.
    I don’t think that is possible yet.
    I guess once Apple enters the fold arena, the competition might provide better battery - but price may not change much.

    I e got a fold 6, why, bacause 8t was refurbished (not used just unboxed) with a 1 year gt for £500. Then I have a tab A8 which has a really nice screen for content and epic speakers, cost me £50. Job done. And my contract, £200 for 100gb. Get this design, get the tech and yes, this will prove to be where it going and take a few years to get to a 0r8ce that makes sense... But for the next five years I'll stick to the two I have to make things work.

  • @JAKOB1977
    @JAKOB1977 24 days ago

    I do like it, but +300g is a lot, but its first gen and the price is a joke, but then again first-mover-product on other global markets like US., and its not like other trifold were cheaper and people seem willing to pay it, as they sold out fast, but also a highly limited release....
    Looking at the market in 2026.. seems like most makers are going all in for foldables, so I reckon we will see positive price development
    Samsung FOLD went from around 282g to 217g from V2 to V7, without to much development, before Z6 and 7.
    Also worth noting that Si/C you get around 20 to 40% weight reduction on the same mAh, so gonna be interresting to see what Trifold fx Honor is working on, and a vendor that is leaning hard on Huawei (thirdparty) production plants and a vendor who's been rocking Si/C batt. since the very impressive Magic V2.

      Doubtful, not at least with this first gen, it's new it's different, it's technically innovative even with the major drawbacks, it sold out twice, next gen however, they probably will lose out with the price and minor changes.
