What if you are more creative in the evening to night? Ive been drawing for 15 years and I noticed I always draw late afternoon to night. In the morning I’m usually busy with other things like work and school. I noticed all my creative ideas come around those times.

Great video Mimi! This is invaluable information and often times overlooked - I used to just draw all day and try getting better without a clear metric of success. For me, I'm currently focused on growing my own RUclips channel and creating entertaining and helpful videos for artists. Some day, I hope to release my own artbook too! 😄

Great video! I just discovered you and I just love what you share and what you do! I always enjoyed drawing and just animation in general. I stop drawing for years now. So now I feel a little frustrated because I’m not drawing like I would like(tend to compare myself). I want to improve my drawing skills. (Working on it)
I want to create illustrations that brings warmth, that is fun and is encouraging. I want to make physical products so I would like to create something from scratch and bring them to “life.” I have found another joy and that is pottery so I want to be able to blend both and create fun, cute and beautiful pieces. My dream is to do this from home since I’m a stay at home mom and I enjoyed being home with my kids. So creating illustrations and pottery in my own space while encouraging others in a peaceful environment surrounded with nature will be the career I want. To have the freedom to create what I want and share it with others 😊

Hi Mimi, I just found your channel and let me tell you, this is JUST what I needed. I quit my full time corporate job 4 months ago to become a painter and illustrator. I have been progressing and have a very supporting friend group and family, however, as an artist I easily get caught up in the creative process of making art, which is amazing but I found myself not having any business plans or structure. Thank you for helping us organie and plan our art business, your content is incredible✨❤️🙂

I want to be able to work from home and really develop my personal style. Sometimes I have friends and family ask me to do a portrait and it is life like, but I want to delve more into a style I can call my own as you did. I know I need to make goals on how often I draw and how to get out of a rut on what to draw.

For my dream art career, I'm focused on making traditional watercolor art of robots, anthros, animals, and nature, geared towards children and young adults. Im kind of in between wanting to make my own stories and characters, but also occasionally working with companies and other artists, but also doing private commissions. But I value freedom in location and creativity, which seems to be a growing thing amongst artists XD
I admit that I have n o t been working well on the Being Serious as a Career aspect as I should, as I kind of had a rough last year of college that affected me mentally, but decided recently I should push past the past, start planning and scheduling to make it a reality!

Thank you so so much Mimi for giving so much good advice about how we can start our own art careers. For me personally, I'm trying to restart my art journey. I loved art when I was younger but eventually stopped. Now, I am relearning art and it's both exciting and also intimidating starting again when I'm older. But you and other art youtubers are a big help in encouraging me to keep going. My goals are to improve my art skills and to hopefully grow my side business with the art that I make. I will take your suggestions to heart and again thank you for all your help!

awesome video! a lot of food for thought:) i like how your goals are quite focused and straightforward, and don’t leave room for complication in the way to approach them.
It’s looks easy but it’s not, when we are overwhelmed with choices and outside restrictive factors that influence our vision of the ‘ideal’ scenario
i for one would love to do murals for families, schools and hospitals and also i would very much enjoy creating greeting cards with little poems, as well as book covers

My dream art career is to be an illustrator and to draw comics. I’ve always had story ideas when I was a kid watching tv or playing video games. I’m really hoping to get to a point where I can do this part time but I’m currently struggling with finding my audience. I think some of it has to do with me attempting to draw every day for the past two years but didn’t get any momentum from it. I don’t want to do that again for a while because it burnt me out so much. 😅
Right now, it’s just trying to find ways to gain some momentum. Wish me luck! 😁

Wonderful video, Mimi! Could you do a video around how you organize your creations/files, etc. I get so overwhelmed with all the things and no matter what I do, I can't find all the things. For example, you have all these little graphic pieces (like the Start/Finish icon pictures), etc. I feel like you must be very organized with digital files so you can be efficient. Thanks!

With some things I'm quite organised, and some things not so much 😅 My artwork is named with the date first (in reverse order so yymmdd) so that they're always in order and easy to find, the other files are loosely grouped into folders for icons, branding, textures etc. Will have to make a video someday!

❤ Hi Mimi! Thank you for this video with useful tips and links. I liked the list of questions to answer and that you shared your answer. Sometimes I read those type of exercises and I don’t know what’s “allowed” as an answer. Lol. I know it’s up to me, but I want to do things right, then I worry. When I read something like “write a business plan” I feel fear/dread. How does one figure our who their “target audience is” beyond “someone who likes what I make and will buy it”? ❤

I was writing my wishes along with the video, gonna paste them below in case anyone will ever find this comment, lol.
    --
I want to do ANYTHING related to design. Creating concepts, working for clients, fullfilling wishes, mostly.
I want to work preferrably in an atelier. Be it at home or a rented office space. I want a small team to possibly split up the work where needed, for animation, atleast. I can handle the design alone. A social media guy to be hired would also be pretty good, if my business will have an account.
I'd like to work from afternoon-to night. But if that doesn't work, I could get up as normal. I'd like to make work-hours flexible for if I get coworkers.
Possibly a 5 day, 7-hour job for all. I definetly want to make sure, that the people who'd work under my watch are well-cared for and can visit families and just take their time on their work.
A small team, where publishers and financial backers can have influence though, too. Any sort of opportunity, is good opportunity.
I care about quality, mostly, and making sure that noone in my team will be under any sort of stress. I want to be as honest and frank as I can be, without coming off as rude or harsh. Sustainability would be the 2nd priority.
