  • Romanian David Popovici is the fastest human in history over 100 meters freestyle.
At the 2022 European Championships in Rome, the 17 year old Popovici blasted a 46.86 in the 100 Freestyle to break Cesar Cielo's long standing world record.
Popovici also dropped the hammer in the 200 Freestyle, becoming the 3rd fastest ever behind Michael Phelps and Paul Biedermann. He broke the 1:43 barrier in that 200 Free.
Pop has been coached by Adrian Rădulescu since he was 9 years old. He has done an amazing job keeping his feet on the ground by leaning into the stoics.

When i listened to Thorpie about his astonishing performances i’ve always had the impression of an Athlete who was conscious of his talent, but always a little bit shy of presenting it (or himself) as 'i'm the N1'. When i listened to Phelps i simply did have the impression of a Man who always did feel the need of showing the world (or himself) his value (maybe because the Phelps’ crush arrived just when Ian left the swimming world, and Ian changed this world skyrocketing it as a ‘media sport’). But now that i see David… i only see a 17 year old serene, confident guy who knows that with hard work and his talent can rewrite swimming history (just listen what he says about breaking 1.42.00). It’s fantastic

"me clapping for my competitors was about ... me wanting to wish them luck." this is such a wise intuitive action, likely a result of his stoicism. because the most satisfying possible result is to beat your competitors at the peak of their respective powers. if you win an olympic gold when your main competitors are injured, it is not as satisfying as winning when they all compete to the best of their ability. so popovici genuinely encourages his competitors and wishes them well so as to facilitate the possibility of him achieving the most personally satisfying possible result.

That's what people don't understand. People think "Im just going get stronger in the weight room and I will swim/run faster." But then they end up carrying more weight and all that time in the weight room doesn't make a big enough difference and might actually hurt them since they are now carrying more weight.

So we’ll deserved, this kid will have a career that mirrors Thorpe as one of the best freestylers in history so far. I think the 100 freestyle at the next olympics will be the most anticipated event of the games with popovici, charmers (who was actually injured and unfit at last olympics so he will be a huge threat) and dressel. Can’t wait to see what this legend does in his career

Actually Thorpe and others are already history in terms of freestyle swimming. Popovici is the greatest freestyle swimmer of all time at the age of 18. The world record is saying that, the way he swim, the way he is. I mean a skinny guy with no muscles swimmed 46.86 without no super suit and the first men in history who goes under 47 in less than 48 hours. Also he has the second time for 200m in history. Give the super suit to Popovici and he will crash the 200m world record at this age.

@@sorinsorin788 I beg to differ mate I’m sorry. Thorpes 400m at 15-16 was faster than any modern day swimmer at 3:42. People forget how good thorpe was and that he retired prematurely in his early 20’s after everything he achieved. Popovici is amazing but you can’t possibly say popovici is better even when at popovicis’ age thorpe has already won Olympic gold…

    • @psychedelicgoat3464

@@psychedelicgoat3464 actually we are speaking about the most popular swimming races which is 100m and 200m freestyle and David is the best in history for 100m. Thorpe was good, but David is just better.

Părea un maestru spiritual, David, care-i explică băbește unui ucenic niște adevăruri existențiale ...
