one thing to keep in mind with the option to either make the beast attack with your bonus action or 1 of your attacks when you take your attack action is this allows you to cast spells from your bonus action slot should you want to. I'd say the beastmaster made a big jump. i rank it now as the 2nd best ranger subclass behind gloomstalker. tactics wise, i'd definitely go wis and shillelagh. the beastmaster, especially if you pick land, lends itself well to a caster type. my fave tactic is using dissonant whispers (via feytouched) to generate alot of opportunity attacks from myself, the primal companion and summon fey/beast along with the normal number of attacks we get. i played this specific build as a beastmaster/divine sorc.
