Challenger ATR 7 GTX - Still Not a Trail Clifton
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 18 окт 2024
- Hoka keeps billing the Challenger as a trail version of their popular road shoe, the Clifton. I don't see the resemblance, but that doesn't mean this shoe isn't fun for slushy mushy trails. Just make sure to size up.

Great review as always! Thank you again for having me on. I think the comment about the different perspectives on the use as a commuter shoe is spot on!
Awesome!
maybe the difference of opinion as a commuter shoe is from the difference between a road runner running trails and a trail runner running a stretch of road to a trail. Your perspectives are based on your primary running focus.
I think you’re on to something here
Yoo good to see ultratrail Steven on here!
Nice feature of @UltraTrailSteven for a cameo on review - I'm happy he moved to our corner of the world here in COS, even recognized one of my favorite climbs (high drive) in this set of video snippets. Not sure I need the ATRGTX, not a big GTX fan in general, but I'll give it some thought for next winter. Great review, as usual, Ko!
for me in Crystal Lake, I'm finding that I like Goretex for winter running, but I love Goretex for mud season
I’m loving the Springs!
@@UltraTrailSteven Yeah, let's just uh... keep it secret, on the DL. -lol
oh daaaang a special guest appearance
This was my first trail shoe a few years back, very good shoe! Wow! I just noticed you now have 134K subs, I started following when you were just getting to the 1K mark. Great job 🇨🇦. @UltraTrailSteven is a great channel for trail runners and highly recommended 🇨🇦
There’s been quite a bit of growth since then
Thanks, Monte!
Yo what's going on Steven!
Great crossover!
I picked up a pair of these for this winter and took them out for a breaking in run today. The traction was good, as was the cushion, but they do feel stiff. I prefer the Torrents for my trail runs, but these should work well when it's raining or snowing.
Great review and awesome to see UltraTrailSteven too! BTW, the link to his RUclips channel is broke (404 error) from the description.
Thanks, Chad!
Let me get that fixed
STEVEN!!
Love the review. For anything except winter running with gaiters, I find GTX takes muuuch longer than regular shoes to dry out. The reality is that mud/water are going to get in anyway through the top - better off embracing that and grabbing a good pair of quick dry shoes.
Great review as always. Love seeing another favourite make a cameo.
Thanks, Chad!
Yoo, your channel is great. Just wanted to let you know. Keep up the good work.
Thank you
Something special about the look of dirt on that thing 🙂
Like mud on some tires but in a good way
@@kalvin. yeah!
What would you suggest if you run part road/gravel/forest trail in one run when living in an urban area? Isn't the Challenger a good option? Also a Clifton works fine if trails are easy. The Speedgoat has a too aggressive grip imho for the road. It's more for mountain trails and rocks.
on paper, the Challenger is what you want. However, I find that the words Hoka uses to describe the Challenger and the words I use to the Challenger are generally opposite.
Consider Altra Superior or Peg Trail
I run on a LOT of very muddy trails (thanks PNW) and short of running in something like speedcross 5....almost every "trail" shoe lacks enough traction. I bet these would be awesome on gravel/dry dirt trails tho
This may be true.
But the Stinson is the Trail Bondi 😛.
Can't wait for the new version of those because last year's Stinson's were awesome.
Agreed. I have 4 pairs of Stinsons! Massively underrated shoe.
Are you part of any running clubs? I can't find any (groups with motivated runners) in Indianapolis, Indiana. It's really frustrating. Any tips or apps I can use?
That interview felt like an infomercial
I just bought these for coaching softball. Hoping they are a comfortable turf shoe
Love your content! ❤❤❤
Great info! Thanks!
Hey I was thinking about the nike react pegasus 4 trail gtx, but are they both fairly warm as I snow shoe or do you have to use like better socks with the Nike if you running in real cold weather?
ruclips.net/video/m4ObVBgiV8A/видео.html
Where did you run in forest full of snow? ( beginning of the video) its in chicago??
Would you recommend these for traveling in urban environments in Europe or elsewhere?
Personally, I would not want any trail shoe for urban travel but maybe that’s just me
@@kofuziInteresting. What type of shoe would you recommend that also has some weather protection and can handle cobblestone streets? Thanks
I really miss the atr 5 (non goretex). That was a great shoe for me. I ran through several pairs. I’d like to try these but I usually hate that flaired heel.
Agree. I ran Pike Peak Ultra 50k in a pair of 5s right off the shelf and they were great. Couldn’t wear the 6s! The 7 sounds like they’re trying to compete with Solomon, la sportiva etc. opinion: people who don’t want wet feet should stay on dry roads- that part of trail running “fun” 😂
What would be good shoe for a newbie on trailrunning?
How about the speedgoat 5 GTX as a comparison ?
they're very different shoes: cushion, comfort, and performance-wise. in other words, not comparable other than they both use goretex
The Hoka doesn't fit me, the New Balance More Trail just fits right, any plans on Running Boston??
yes
Would you consider doing a review on New Balance Hierro v7 GTX? Would love to hear your thoughts!
The Hierro is a shoe that I perennially plan in reviewing and then never get to for no real reason (except that I don’t run in that many trail shoes)
Is it ok to use a trail shoe for road running?
There's no problem really and it all depends on you. I currently own Brooks Catamount V1, and using it on the road causes pain in my Achilles.
@@fayliyur3899 That settles it. The last thing I want is sore ankles. Unless you are saying your achilles pain is not being caused by the trail shoes.
It’s possible, doesn’t feel the best after a few miles because you’ll be able to feel the lugs as heat spots. At least that’s been my experience running a few miles in any of my trail running shoes on pavement. I am heavier at 215-220lbs.
for me, it would depend on the trail shoe
Great video! I wanted to ask if you were planning on touching on New Balance's Propel V4. It looks totally different from its predecessors and seems like it could be decent.
I don’t currently have any plans for it
I always find the toebox never quite fits properly in the Challenger. That said, I'm loving the Mafate atm.
Mafate is so good
when are u gonna review nike vaporfly 3?
Kofuzi is the man!
Yo
Would you say they are restaurant proof ?
I’m not sure what this means. I review running shoes.
I wish they would do a speedgoat with Gore-Tex, Hoka of your reading this what you waiting for
They do
Hi, kofuzi. please try XTEP 160 X 3.0 PRO.
Are they ok to go to restaurant?
I suppose it would depend on the restaurant
hi Steven!
Hi!
Mh this better than goat 5
no
Yo, what’s going on!!!
Spot the hoka one ten that you review a while back that strange shoe 😅
me who just use them to walk every day 😂
It’s your money and your feet. As long as you’re happy, nothing else is really relevant
damn
Wear gaiters
Thanks for doing this review, I was looking forward to it. 🏔
