I love the thread of fantasy that runs through all the seasons of Fargo. Its never front and center and it's rarely bought up again, but its always there. The UFO in season 2 is the most overt thread of fantasy, but there's also Malvo's strange omnipresence in season 1, how he disappeared from Lester's basement without a sound and without being noticed by anyone. I'm sure I don't need to talk about the bowling alley in season 3.
@@DialingForDollarhyde I think it's episode 7 or 8, Nikki and Mr Wrench after escaping from Yri in the woods find a bowling alley just parked awkwardly in the middle of nowhere. The way the reveal scene is shot strongly implies that the bowling alley isn't "earthly". When they get inside, there's nobody about save for a bartender who we only see the shoulder of, and a guy in the background cleaning the isles. Paul Marrane, who Gloria met earlier in the series, appears next to Nikki between shots and imparts a purpose on her to "punish the wicked". After Nikki and Mr. Wrench leave, Yuri turns up at the bowling alley and Marrane also speaks to him, telling him that he has a message for him from Rabbi Nachman and the Cossacks. Yuri then looks towards the camera and sees a vision of the girlfriend he killed back in Russia along with the Rabbi and the Cossacks. Yuri is only mentioned again in passing by Gloria as "That dead Russian guy". To me, the Bowling Alley represents a sort of limbo. When Paul asks Nikki "Have you been to this place before?" she replies with "The bowling alley?", to which Paul replies "Is that what you see?" This is further supported by Paul claiming that "the others" didn't think Mr. Wrench should leave, but he convinced them that Wrench was on a better path.

This was great to watch and listen to. Just finished a rewatch of the three seasons. One thing I thought about Molly's glove story in season 1 was that the guy on the train was Lester. He lost a glove and someone would find it. As in his bully died and Molly linked it to him. Now people lose gloves all the times, and people die. But then Lester lost a second. He murdered his wife. His first glove getting lost was purely accidental, but now he's lost it, he doesn't want the other, and throws it away in a snap decision. He hits his wife on the head in a heated argument with a hammer. Now Molly has two gloves and why would someone lose two gloves? It's more likely that they were left there and that gives Molly a larger mystery to solve, as to who the gloves are and why they (Lester) left them there. I did love how you tied it in with the two 'puzzles' in the episode and how Lester easily answered the one where there is something to gain from the end of it, and not understanding the one where you lose something at the end. I loved the movie, and same goes for the series, esp Season 3, which has some of the best writing and acting I've ever seen. Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead excel. She's one of the most attractive actresses ever IMO.
This is a very good video. Subscribed.
“Varga is hugely repulsive, yet utterly compelling, the man has one suit, a series of acutely dreadful habits that scale up in vulgarity, and nothing is consistent with the little he reveals to his new friends.”
There has never been a character that is so me, ever
Brilliant programme!
Great video Bubb.. Fargo the series is incredible. So incredible that it enticed me to watch the movie which I never wanted to watch, just because it looked lame. I was correct, the movie was lame. Glad I watched the series first. Had I watched the movie first I would never have watched the series and totally missed out on this wild adventure.
I'm absolutely sure that the creators kept in mind The Master and Margarita
, making the season 3.
On the whole there are so many references to different known stories etc. (Bible is the most referred one)
Yes.
This is a great video. Well done.
