  • What can I say...I like making coffee tables :)
    Steel is 5mm thick, end straps 3mm. Table top is 40 mm Maple finished with Danish Oil. At the time of the video I applied 5 coats of oil with about 8 hours drying between coats. I would like to apply more in the coming days to get the sheen up a bit more. The maple has beautiful curls in the grain. The steel is finished in Gloss Acrylic.
    Many thanks to my Patreon Supporters whom provide wonderful support allowing me to design and make these creations which I share with you all.

    Scott, I'm curious as to why you cut out the end plates with holesaws, chain drilling, cutting disc and bandsaw when you could have done it all with your plasma cutter. Was this for production values or was the plasma cutter out of service?
    Nice build though. I like the low key etched detail on the frames.
    Regards
    Preso

    • @ScottTurnerformeindustrious
      @ScottTurnerformeindustrious  5 лет назад +1

      My plasma cutter is a cheap low quality tool and I don't trust it to cut on a line, even with new consumables. One day I'll get a decent Plasma. The other thing was I didn't have the right size hole saw from memory so I decided to chain drill. Sometimes I like to show variations to achieving a result. Thanks again Preso

    Hi Scott,
    can I commission an industrial furniture for my stereo equipment? I love the combination of wood and steel furniture. I reside in Virginia, USA. I know that you are in Australia - I lived in Melbourne for 2 years from 1999-2001. I still have family there. I know theres some distant but I am also aware of the desk you designed and built for that lucky mate in SF. I am willing to wait for months or even years for this if you are booked at the moment - if we can design - you build - take apart and mail it to me here in Virginia near Washington DC, I am willing to start the process ASAP. I don't have a facebook account, I tried to email you directly but I don't know how....please do react to this and lets connect to see if this can be done - your work is nothing short of great.
    Thanks - Victor

    Scott, your video production is awesome, thanks very much. Now this coffee table in my view is a simply stunning piece of work. The metal work has such an industrial look and the maple top really sets it off and I guess that is what your design focus is really about. When I saw the photos you posted on IG i was really impressed and seeing the build and final product in the video I can't say enough about it. Brilliant, thankyou again 👍👍👍👏

    That's a cracking table. Oddly enough, there does not seem to be any Danish Oil made in Denmark and it's being sold under it's name in English, rather than as "dansk olie". But then we call Danish Pastry "Viennese Bread" (wienerbrød) here....

    Brilliant actually. True 1 of a kind artistry and handwork. So do you make your projects as commissioned by customers, or is it just whatever you're in the mood for? If the latter, do you have a storefront where you sell your creations? Would love to own one your pieces, but shipping from Australia is pretty much a killer. Bravo, and WTF? Only 49k subscribers? Wish I could buy stock in # of subscribers. That number is gonna explode.

      Much appreciated feedback - Thank You! Well for the most part I make what I have the itch for but I have done the odd commission also. I'm super grateful for all my subscribers and I'm braced for the explosion ;) Thanks again!

    Yet another stunning piece Scott ! Question. Did you set the feed rate low deliberately to obtain a better visual finish to the welds ? Thanks for sharing : )

    • @ScottTurnerformeindustrious
      @ScottTurnerformeindustrious  6 лет назад

      Thanks John. Quick confession. That setting was for thinner material I did earlier (3mm). I actually changed it up to 5mm thickness. Sorry I forget the actual setting.

    • @JohnSmith-ud9ex
      @JohnSmith-ud9ex 6 лет назад

      No worries mate. I could hear it (fabricator by trade, a long time ago) I can hear the droplet running back up the feed wire. Still. if it isnt structural it does make a nice finish : ) It is amazing what you come up with.

    A real artisan would have hand forged his own hand saw on site being sure to properly fold the steel 100000 times before notching teeth into it and then used only that saw to cut his wood top just kidding I'm only playing with you but all joking aside that was a nice build it had an mid 1800s style to it because of the. i - beam design I do have one suggestion if you will add a Zink block onto the metal somewhere it will prevent the steel from rusting if the lacquer finish ever fails the Zink strip mite need to be replaced once every 5 years depending on its size

    Nice one mate.
    I've got a spare circular saw I can post you, it pained me to see you go to that much effort.
    Waxing the blade was a good tip though. I've gone back to hand sawing small jobs cause I have a big glass job in and it's too much mucking around to get the chopsaw out.

    • @ScottTurnerformeindustrious
      @ScottTurnerformeindustrious  6 лет назад

      Thanks Barry! The effort was not a bother. I needed the exercise plus it's a better look for the video :). I'm the same. I have the sliding mitre saw but not the space to set it up properly. It throws dust everywhere so often its just better to handsaw. All the best.

    Thanks Scott. I tune in and watch you do that and now I am ashamed that I have been working to much and not trying some of the industrial furniture designs that seem to be your forte. Actually I am embarrassed. I have a CNC plasma table and torch and you did a better job of those table legs splicing, mixing, and dicing that I could with a CAD drawings and cutting it on the table. Nice work.

    • @ScottTurnerformeindustrious
      @ScottTurnerformeindustrious  6 лет назад

      Huge thanks again John! I have a plasma but it gets messy and it's hard to cut as accurately as the band saw. In the end I have so much grinding when I plasma. Now a water jet or laser might be much better but the band saw is best for now. All the best, good to hear from you and thanks again.

    I love to watch you make complicated pieces of metal with basic tools and techniques that are attainable to the average person
