Definitely agree with you. The Gen 1 R8 looks head and shoulders better than the Gen 2. Its styling looks relevant to this day. Its aged very gracefully. And the fact that the Gen 2 wasn't offered in a 6MT makes it even less appealing to me. Sub-3 sec 0-60 times regardless. Gimme that organic, engaged driving feel over sheer speed and lap times any day!
LegendInThaMakin yeah same here lol. I thought the older one looks better... until I saw them both next to each other in the flesh. No way, the new one looks more hardcore and “better”.
Johnnygg, but the old one (this one) has much more class, and I prefer class, more so, I prefer an aggressive classy car, like the Aston Martin DB11, Mercedes S63 AMG, Porsche 911. The new R8 is just a spaceship wannabe.
Boy I miss the good ol' days of precision driving. I'm talking about the 4-speed automatic, fwd, abs, traction control, 185/75 R14 tyres, the whole fucking shabang.
We talk about about how the industry has stepped away from the manual because like you said most people don't really drive for the excitement of it. Also the powers that be want autonomous cars and you can't get that with a manual transmission. I agree that the first Gen R8 looks better hands down.
Please don't ever stop making videos. The production quality is top notch. You are an amazing presenter and I can see you going places. Most underrated automotive channel on RUclips.
I'm in the extremely happy position of having owned - and driven - both a first gen manual V8 and a first gen manual V10 too. Despite all the similarities ,in practice they are very different cars. The V8 is a GT car. It's comfortable, easy to drive, not scarily fast and it eats up the miles. It's got an awesome exhaust note and the gearbox is to die for. It's a dream car for cruising across Europe while still allowing you to both show off and drive pretty quickly if the mood suits. I love the whole package. The V10 is an altogether fiercer car. Put your foot down and it really feels like it's progressing down the road in huge bounds. On paper the acceleration and speed difference between the two isn't all that great. In reality, it's enormous. It's downright scary. The V10 is an altogether faster, more exciting, scarier beast. Push it a bit and you know, without any doubt at all, that you've got a tiger by the tail. It's a car to take on a track rather than on a continental cruise. I can't decide which I prefer though. So, stupidly, I've still got both - at least until the dosh runs out. And that says something about R8's generally because I've been an Alfa man for over 40 years now. I'd still buy another Alfetta GTV or GTV6 in the blink of an eye. The best balanced cars I've ever driven - and still sexy as hell in a 1970's wedge shape way too.
I'm 53 & only own manuals, 4 of them. Long-live the manual & I will Not be selling any of them, my daughter will inherit All of them & hopefully more, when I'm gone. It's nice to see a young person who get's it...the love of driving!!! This R8 is awesome. I am researching these & love the analog gauges, as well, do not like digital. Yes, manual gives you so much more control & attachment to your car. Thanks😁
sad that manuals are dying.... I'll miss the ole man pedal... 3 of my 4 vehicles are manual... this r8 is sick and I believe I'd rather have it than the Gallardo of the era especially since it has the man pedal haha... the sounds this car made just through my phone speaker were orgasmic and reminded me of the phenomenal work of the producers of NFS Underground 2...sorry just had a nostalgic moment... keep up the videos man I dig the subject matter as well as final product!
bluezedd I have heard it referred to as this....it is the connection point of man and machine... can do so much more with a manual...not to mention a clutch is cheap and the transmission will basically last lifetime
You are completely correct about first gen. versus second.. I first got inspired by this car from Need For Speed with the boss at the end driving the R8 concept basically before the car was even out.. Thumbs up bro!!!
💯 the most underrated car RUclips channel, the production quality of this is fricking awesome. You obviously love cars and are an awesome presenter. Keep it up!!!! Love your stuff ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
2015 R8 V10 plus (super, super rate) with a manual will be worth big money one day. Keep at less than 5K miles and you will get $1MM for it some time after 2045. Just my humble prediction.
Great video Marcus, love the panning and drone shots. I had the fortunate experience last year of driving an Audi R8 V10 in Dubai around their Autodrome and it was a sensational car to drive with a fabulous soundtrack, sadly it was a paddle shifter and not a manual, which I feel made the experience not as good as it could have been, but it still was great fun. There is a pleasurable sensation when changing gear and I feel this adds to the driving experience, plus it helps you learn the car, improve your driving skill and understanding. I get the reason for moving towards automatics, but hopefully they leave a few manuals for us diehards! If not, we got to keep some cars from yesteryear! #savethemanuals
That is beautiful car. Love it in that metallic black. Also, of course right on for buying the manual. Can’t even imagine what driving it with that gated shifter is like!
One of the most passionate automotive youtubers out there! Would you be interested in coming to San Francisco and enjoying driving some Porsches for your channel?
Next to a red Porsche 930 Turbo an R8 V10 Manual is one of my more attainable dreamcars. Normally I'm not a cabriolet or "spyder" guy, but the R8 Spyder changes that. With the roof down it looks even better than the normal R8, that goes for the old one, as well as the new one!
In 18 years of driving I've owned 4 manual sports cars. I once thought I'd never own an auto. Well it happened, and I got my first auto luxury sports car and I love it. I feel conflicted because it's amazing, crazy fast and stupid easy to drive but I miss having the control. I like it so much I actually can't decide what my next car will be. I'm hoping by the time i'm ready for the next car there's still an option.
1000% agree the first generation r8 is better looking! It is not influenced by other modern design like the new one. The front of the new r8 looks cool but the rear looks like they tried to go after a hybrid look with disguised exhaust location... gen 1 ftw
I am blessed enough to own a 2014 R8 V10 6MT convertible. I hope to never have to sell it. She is truly amazing. Yes, my GTR is a a lot faster. Yes, my Ferrari sounded better and leaned less in the corners because it was 850lbs lighter. But, the R8 is so well balanced!
true the older R8 was more curvaceous from the head lights down that wide rear!sure the new one is more angry more grunty, and edges that would cut ur toddler, the other manual that holds a candle to the r8 is the carrera GT.
Couldn’t agree more....however, being European, it’s a lot of people joining us here.... stick shifts sit deep in the genes of real European car enthusiasts....✅👏✅
My grandparents were born and raised in Europe (Hungary and Czech) so I guess that explains my hatred for automatics and love for manuals (and motorcycles!)
Manuals for life! You we're spot on when talking about what manual transmissions mean to car/drive fanatics. #savethemanuals Ok fair enough auto has it's charms too but i'd much rather have manual or like semi with the flippers I can be kinda ok with that too.
Outside the realm of performance automatics for bracket racing, drag racing or anything of the like I agree 100%. I have modified auto for racing and a 5 speed manual for the street. I also agree that the lines of the 1st gen R8 are bit better then the slanted sharp nose of the 2ng gens.
I couldn't have said it anyway better than you. Manual is just the best way of feeling "connected" to your car. I know how this may sound cheesy to most of the people, but it's true. Most lucky people will just choose an automatic Golf R or an Audi S3, bragging about how fast shifting gets with a twin clutch. People who wouldn't even consider taking their car on the track. People who will use the car at most for showing off at the club. My car is what most people would consider a Shitbox, but I have nothing else and I love driving it as best as I can: downshifting, rev matching etc. If you're seeking a record-smashing lap time on some fancy race track, then get an automatic. If you want to have fun on twisty mountain roads, just get a damn manual.
of course the 1st gen looks better....look at sales figure of 2nd gen it's pretty obvious, to the point that they will be discontinued soon. But to be fair audi got it right the first time, it's very hard to top that.
Honda Civic Type R, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Hyundai Veloster N performance, Toyota Yaris GR, Nissan 400Z proto, Porsche 911, BMW M3, Toyota GT 86, Dodge Viper, some hellcats, some jaguar sports cars.... All of these still have manual gearboxes.
#savethemanuals
Preach! I agree about the 1st Gen R8 being better looking... great vid.
Definitely agree with you. The Gen 1 R8 looks head and shoulders better than the Gen 2. Its styling looks relevant to this day. Its aged very gracefully. It’s about the driving experience every day, not track times. A real car lover gets that
This gen r8 is better looking than the newer one tbh
ivan sarabia I would agree
I thought so at first, not anymore.
Life of Tennis well in that case that makes sense. I don’t care about class at all lol
The way the shifter clicks into each gear like a bolt action is HHHNNNGGGGG
Kudos to Porsche for bringing back the manual in the GT3!
Tfc vtc
I’ll one up your statement and say that the first gen R8 looks better than the Gallardo. Sorry, not sorry.
Carl Olivier Fleurinor let’s not get carried away.
Better looking than the 1st gen gallardo but maybe not the lp560
It looks better than all lambos
Boy I miss the good ol' days of precision driving.
I'm talking about the 4-speed automatic, fwd, abs, traction control, 185/75 R14 tyres, the whole fucking shabang.
I respect the way this guy thinks #savethemanual ✊🏻

It will go in the automobile history book as one of the all time best looking cars
Please don't ever stop making videos. The production quality is top notch. You are an amazing presenter and I can see you going places. Most underrated automotive channel on RUclips.
Beautiful spec and tasteful mods on the R8

I drove one when I was in Germany. It was the best experience I've ever had. Keep up the good work bro your vids are dope!
Have one. Totally agree. Never come home unhappy after a long drive. Pure joy.
This is legitimately my dream car, if I could own anything it would be a phantom black pearl Audi R8 V10 6-speed.
Agreed! 1st Gen R8 is WAY better than the 2nd
Pure exhaust note. No obnoxious crackles.
Some of the best cinematography I've seen in a car video in a long time...
I'm 53 & only own manuals, 4 of them. Long-live the manual & I will Not be selling any of them, my daughter will inherit All of them & hopefully more, when I'm gone. this channel needs to blow up man... very high quality videos
6:30 I love that the shifter rocks when he lets off the gas.
I can’t agree more, the first gen is looking timeless and beautiful. Thats why I just got my self one, Gated V8. Check it out
sad that manuals are dying.... I have no words for the cinematics and the manual r8 is love.......#savethemanuals
You are completely correct about first gen. versus second.. I first got inspired by this car from Need For Speed with the boss at the end driving the R8 concept basically before the car was even out.. Thumbs up bro!!!
Same
I don't understand how this video doesn't have millions of views!! It deserves
Simply an outstanding work
Not too big a fan of the r8 but damn! I would definitely pick up a v10 6mt in a heartbeat
The production value of Roads Untraveled came a long way ! Remember when it first started
💯 the most underrated car RUclips channel, the production quality of this is fricking awesome. You obviously love cars and are an awesome presenter. Keep it up!!!! Love your stuff ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Favorite car ever
Enjoyed the narration. Cool to hear about car history. I too went through the 'old trucks then old accord' phases.
Just got my dream car last month.. 2010 minty v8 gated R8…absolutely in love with it
That just means a manual transmission = the ultimate theft protection system, since these lil girls don’t know how to use a 3rd pedal these days.
What a car to hoon around in, especially in the Angeles National Forrest. You are one lucky dog.
Congrats to the owner! The car is spot on! The wheels are gorgeous
Good ol classic car review. Keep it up!! Love this channel.
2015 R8 V10 plus (super, super rate) with a manual will be worth big money one day. Keep at less than 5K miles and you will get $1MM for it some time after 2045. Just my humble prediction.

I rarely thumbs up a video, congrats sir.
Aaaaaand added to favorites.
Very nice car I forgot they did the manual v10 r8 it will become a very rare car in time
Thank you for having me out brother
Long time subscriber, first time commenting. Great work Roads Untraveled, keep it up. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🔥🔥
this specific refresh (with the boomerang DRLs) of the 1st gen R8, IMO looks the best
That is beautiful car. Love it in that metallic black. Also, of course right on for buying the manual. Can’t even imagine what driving it with that gated shifter is like!
Great production value Marcus, always amazed you don't have 10 times the subscribers you actually have. Great content.
Amazing video! A 6-speed R8 V10 is a dream car of mine.
Yeah that’s my boy Wayne’s car, modded tastefully.
love your videos, saw this r8 in one of your videos flying through the canyons.
Bruce Wayne

Here in the uk we have been driving manuals forever, but now its changing everyone wants an auto dual clutch etc.
I agree. This Audi R8 looked beautiful. More pretty than the Gallardo

the r8 is my dream car and by the time im graduated from college and will have enough saved to afford one I probably won't be able to find a manual :(
R8 with Manual 6 speed !!! EVIL !!!!
This is likely going to be my next car only in a convertible. I currently drive a 2005 slk350 six speed and it’s a riot.
1000% agree the first generation r8 is better looking! It is not influenced by other modern design like the new one. The front of the new r8 looks cool but the rear looks like they tried to go after a hybrid look with disguised exhaust location... gen 1 ftw
That gated shifter tho.
Finally someone has the same opinion as me when it comes to the H pattern
That R8 is absolutely #perfect!
Amazing sound ❤️❤️❤️, this reminds me of my dad who recently got a 2016 Audi S4 manual. I love it 👍👍👍
I do agree with u. Love the first gen R8. It looks better than the second gen. The only thing I like about the second gen is the interior only
The production, really has improved, good job guys. :)
The sound of that V10 was Godly
Beautifully filmed and I could not agree more. Long live the stick!
Great footage and editing. You have some nice driving skills mate.

Every downshift with that V10 is pleasure
Couldn’t agree more....however, being European, it’s a lot of people joining us here.... stick shifts sit deep in the genes of real European car enthusiasts....✅👏✅

Could.
Not.
Agree.
More!
Wonderful video.

Ok fair enough auto has it's charms too but i'd much rather have manual or like semi with the flippers I can be kinda ok with that too.
Such a clean example
Bruh, did you guys ghost ride the whip?!?! Subscribed.
Yes absolutely SAVE THE MANUALS
That exact spec is the dream
One of your best videos to date!
Got an V8 audi R8 with manual transmission :)
Outside the realm of performance automatics for bracket racing, drag racing or anything of the like I agree 100%. I have modified auto for racing and a 5 speed manual for the street. I also agree that the lines of the 1st gen R8 are bit better then the slanted sharp nose of the 2ng gens.
such an awesome Car can't wait to upgrade from my Audi TT 3.2 to this or a Porsche
I'm with you man, the 1st gen R8 looks much better than the 2nd gen.
I couldn't have said it anyway better than you. Manual is just the best way of feeling "connected" to your car. I know how this may sound cheesy to most of the people, but it's true.

Long gone is the 3 spd and 4 spd and 5 seems like it's on its way out to with lower budget cars now getting a 6 spd
Great video man. 41 and never owned an automatic
Beautiful video, couldn't agree more. 👍 Also I'm totally with you, 1st Gen R8 has the perfect classical super car shape.
this look is so much better than current look of the audi r8...it sucks that they closed this version
The R8 v10 6 spd mt is my dream car. Luckily I have enough money for it, just got to fully recover from lyme.
Love the accord...and yes you are right my very first car is a manual....people don't know manuals get a higher red line and more aggressive cams
of course the 1st gen looks better....look at sales figure of 2nd gen it's pretty obvious, to the point that they will be discontinued soon. But to be fair audi got it right the first time, it's very hard to top that.
The last greatest manual trans super car in my opinion is the VIPER ACR. Why? Because RWD is LIFE 😉
Mugen 95 true, RWD+MT is my life :D
Mugen 95 no, the last one will most likely be 991.2 Porsche GT3.
Mugen 95 6 speed v10 bmw m5
Always a pleasure watching your videos :D
My GT4 only came with stick... :)
Lol not sure if youre over revving on the downshift by accident or for flair either way sounds so darn good.
So much cooler looking than the new one.
You are 100% right
Got to drive one of these when I worked as a valet, I was shaking
Well shot! A lot of people might not realize what goes into making something like this.
Great video Marcus, I have been thinking of adding one to the collection. V10, stick, out of production, sounds like my kind of car
Honda Civic Type R, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Hyundai Veloster N performance, Toyota Yaris GR, Nissan 400Z proto, Porsche 911, BMW M3, Toyota GT 86, Dodge Viper, some hellcats, some jaguar sports cars.... All of these still have manual gearboxes.
My dream car. Great video guys!😁
amazing video on an amazing car!! love it!!
