Nice. Just built a SBC. Im at 47 over on timing overall with vacuum advance connected to distributor at 800 RPM with a 15 inch vacuum on a 4150 HOLLEY 650 double pumper mechanical secondaries. Under a load at 600 RPM I'm at a 10 inch vacuum in drive with foot on brake. As soon as you move your foot to pedal truck will bark. All it wants to do is be in idle or under load ready to jolt. Motor is in a 56 cheverolet truck Patina no bed. Played with timing on all aspects 30 and over at a static overall advancement. Looks great my man..!! Edit: This is on a 500 horse motor with a 480 Comp cam. Just relating my timing story over trial and error several hundred times, the outcome of course. Played around with fuel and fire for a minute. 11.1 Sbc with a 7 inch air gap. Nothing fancy.
@chancellor9677 Thanks for the info. I don’t have anywhere close to that kind of HP in this car, it’s just a cruise. But the torque just seemed like it was not there after the first time I messed with the timing. Yesterday I drove it around for an hour or so and didn’t like the 16-17 advance timing, so I put it back to 13 advance and the torque feels a lot better. also at 16-17 advance timing I was having a hard time starting the car, now back at 13 advance timing it starts right up. Thanks for the info. I have a 71 Chevelle I’m building with a 5.3LS, if I can get close to 400hp I’ll be happy…but I know not for long 😀 Thanks,
