Thank you for your educational videos. I finished massage school back in 2012, at a wonderful school in Ft. Myers, Florida while I and my daughter lived there for a short time. I loved what I learned. The instructors were wonderful! I still have my books that I use when I want to refresh. However, during the last month of school I developed symptoms of some health issues which made it hard to make it to class. But with the encouragement, and help from the school staff and instructors I was able to finish and get certified. Though I did not pass my licensing test, I could have taken it again, but I could not afford it at the time and I was making plans to move back to my hometown of Michigan. I love my craft, and yes, trading massages with other CMTs is crucial to self care, besides being able to massage oneself. My only regret is not going to school 30 years earlier. When my health allows I can help family , friends and my cat. Had I'd been younger and under better circumstances I would have liked to start my own business. You are great! Keep blessing us with your knowledge.... Special blessings to you👍🙌😇💖
Oh Bonnie thank you so much for your feedback! You have a compelling story that sounds bittersweet. I’m glad you were able to finish your school & graduate in spite of the setbacks I can tell you still love massage therapy...I can feel it in your words. I’m truly sorry for your health issues however I’m sure massage school is part of the reason you’ve learned to take care of yourself. I’ve come to the realization that my massage career changed me. It’s made me a better person. I’m glad you’re still able to help family & your Kitty too. Take care of yourself and create a great day

Love your content so much! I just recently passed my MBLEX with the help of some of your videos, so thank you. Also, could you possibly do a video on entry level therapy? What would be the best setting to start in? (spas, fitness centers, etc.) OR Working for a company vs. being self employed.
Congratulations on passing the Mblex! That’s a big accomplishment! I think it’s important to figure out which direction you want to go with massage therapy and what your schedule allows. Realistic time management is important. I’ll tell you what I say to my students. It’s a good idea to get a good year of experience out in the field before venturing out on your own. If you want to do more of the medical field look for a position with a chiropractor or PT or Physio. The big chains offer experience in dealing with a variety of people. You will learn to adjust to different body, types, needs & time management. All of these are important to learn if you’re planning on opening up your own business. Since I don’t know what it is you like to do it’s difficult to say what & where you would excel. By the time a student graduates I know their personality & abilities so it’s easier to make suggestions. I do say a years experience is important. If you would like to set up a time to talk to me please email me At massagetherapeutics915@gmail.com. Let me know who you are. Create a great day
Great video! I'm currently attending the Lauterstein-Conway school in Austin and Trail Guide is definitely the bible for massage students! It makes me hopeful that my school offers training in the modalities you weren't able to learn in the initial 500 hrs, as well as business and pathology classes. However, it is incredibly fast-paced for the scope of knowledge. I went to grad school for busines a decade ago and this is actually much harder for me bc it is so heavy in anatomy and kinesiology. Everyone be warned- massage school is difficult! But I'm thankful for the knowledge and hope to help people live more naturally pain-free lives.
Congratulations on embarking in this new career & challenge. Yes massage school is difficult! Most people don’t realize how much learning goes into becoming a good well rounded massage therapist. We don’t receive enough credit! I’m so happy you mentioned it! I really do hope you receive the guidance that you need. It is fast paced & challenging yet doable. I wish you the best of luck! And don’t forget I have a whole playlist dedicated to kinesiology. That might help you reinforce what you learn. As a matter of fact I need to redo the series. Best of wishes for you & thanks for the great comment!!! 🤗🤗
Hello & thank you for this informative video. I too first studied massage when everything was from books and hand written. As you say, it's so good nowadays with google etc. Love watching your videos. Thanks again.
The school I went to was very focused on alternative medicine and energetic work. There were a lot of things taught as fact that I later learned were either untrue or unproven. I do feel that my school did an excellent job of teaching ethics. There was a lot of focus on boundaries and scope of practice. I have met so many therapists who have no boundaries and are unbelievably unprofessional. Also our program was 750 hours even though the state only requires 500.
Thank you for sharing your experience and what your school taught. The first place I taught I was partnered up with an instructor who focused on energy work & crystal healing etc. I was not against it however it does not prepare the students to pass the Mblex test or become well rounded therapist. I still have students come up to me and tell me that thanks to my teaching they were able to pass the Mblex. The 2nd place I taught at didn’t really care about the students. They just pushed enrollment for the financial benefits. They had issues and eventually went bankrupt. Now I’m happy where I am at. We take pride in our teaching and all instructors give our best. You are definitely correct about students being surprised after they graduate finding out some of what they learned didn’t prepare them for the real world of massage therapy. I’m glad your school goes above and beyond state requirements! That sounds like it balanced itself out! I truly appreciate your feedback! Thank you for sharing
Here in Ontario Canada we study for 2200 hrs, and learn the things you've listed 😀 yeah I can't even imagine not having learned all these important aspects! 😐 British Columbia train for 3000 hrs 😳 Love your videos, thank you 🙏😊💖
Wow 3,000 hours puts us to shame. That is fantastic. We (some instructors) have been fighting for years for the states to raise the required hours! We never stop learning so here in the states you continue learning after you graduate. It almost sounds like you graduated with a nursing degree. Can you share with me some of the things you learned and how long does the program take. Thank you for your feedback!

I agree more than just the basics need to be taught. Where I went to school a little more was taught on pathology and contraindications to some conditions and pharmacology y was not taught at the time. Wish there was a more uniform requriments for massage nationally.
I agree! They need to learn more before they’re released into the field. People come in for massages now then to just relax! Most people have medical conditions. It sounds like you went to a good school! Congrats on being resourceful & continued growth 🤗
I love neuromuscular work...so beneficial. Sad but a lot of therapist, even when taught this in school they only do the swedish..smh you can really help so many people thank you for sharing 🤗💕
Yes I love neuromuscular therapy. It’s what made me a good therapist. I actually learned that after you graduate from massage school. It’s an extensive program. In Masssge school you just receive an introduction to different modalities nothing really in depth. Unless you’re in a school that has more than the state requirements. We can really help a lot of people. stay healthy and strong and take care! 🤗

Greetings Ms. Natera, I am new to your channel and I have looked through your playlist before asking you this question. I do not live near El Paso where you teach and just by viewing your work you most certainly would be one of my first choices to learn from. Would you have any advice to offer on things to consider when choosing a massage school? I am watching videos from others now on YT, but would really appreciate your input if you had the time to spare.
Welcome to my channel. I would definitely look for a school that meets the state requirements to be able to get your license. Most cities only have a couple of choices so I would go visit the schools & see which one you like. You can see if they look organized, clean, look at the curriculum & ask lots of questions about the program. Good luck and let me know how it goes! I’m always curious about other massage programs. Oh most states require a minimum of 500 hundred hours but some states like New York require over 1,000. So it varies. You can also call your state department of health to find out what their requirements are.
@@MassageTherapeutics915 Thank you for responding. I do appreciate it as well as your channel. I'm enjoying an interview you're doing now on some other RUclips's channel. 😃
🤣 yes I know you guys have 1,000 hour programs! That is serious! Glad you’re learning a lot. I wish all the states would require 1,000 hours. We would have more respect in the médical community. Thanks for stopping by & leaving a comment!
I would advice you to call your dr. Because every case might be different. I’ve had clients that come in the next day. Recently I had a client that got one on her wrist & dr. Said it was ok to come in. Just to make sure give them a call.
@@anasoares3389ask your client to call their doctor to ask if they can get a massage right away or do they need to wait. Some doctors say wait others say no waiting is necessary. It depends on where the shot is administered and why. If it’s for a severe injury you might need to wait a few days.

Very helpful! I was just thinking the same thing...I need more education because I only know the basics... What are your thoughts on Shiatsu? Or Thai massage ? Everyone believes DT is all they need, I do not believe that, I believe you can add some DT to a session but not a full one hour DT massage...
Thank you for your comment! I think Shiatsu & Thai massage are excellent modalities. It depends more on what you like & are passionate about. As long as you love it & are passionate you will attract the people who will benefit from it. I just don’t even call it DT. I call it specific work. You hang around an ischemic area for a few min then do some relaxation techniques too. I like how you describe it & I agree that you don’t do a full hour of only specific work or neuromuscular unless it’s for an injury treatment and then again you still incorporate some relaxation techniques. Best of wishes for you

Take care of yourself and create a great day
I just started massage school this week. I’m so happy to have found your channel. I will be watching your videos! Thank you for the information you share. I appreciate it and will happily apply this to my life. 🫶🏻

Yes yes this is my favorite book!!! I’m glad you use this book in Canada too! Create a great day 🙏❤️

Good luck!! I’m excited for you! Let us know how you like it. I appreciate your feedback too. What state are you in?
Great advice! Trail Guide is amazing, still look at it all the time
It’s your bible too 😂. Best book for me!!! Thanks for the support Mike. Create a great day
Hello & thank you for this informative video. I too first studied massage when everything was from books and hand written. As you say, it's so good nowadays with google etc. Love watching your videos. Thanks again.
I appreciate you! You know what I’m talking about! Well we survived and made it so that’s a big congratulations to you too 🤗❤️
Thank you for your wealth of knowledge.
My pleasure! I really appreciate your support
Awesome person giving Awesome suggestions!!! Great information...thanks !
My pleasure. I really appreciate your compliment too. Create a great day
The school I went to was very focused on alternative medicine and energetic work.
Hia Maria, brilliant video, thank you, Namaste.🙏🥰
Namaste 🙏. I appreciate you ❤️
Here in Ontario Canada we study for 2200 hrs, and learn the things you've listed 😀
yeah I can't even imagine not having learned all these important aspects! 😐
British Columbia train for 3000 hrs 😳
Love your videos, thank you 🙏😊💖
Wow 3,000 hours puts us to shame.
The trail guide is my go to book always
That’s great!! Do you have the students work book too. That helps too. I love those books!!!

Perfect timing! Thank you for your feedback
Great sharing!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!
My pleasure 🤗

@@Cottage-Reader I’m happy to help!!!
Ail guide is my bible as well. New York classes are intense.
🤣 yes I know you guys have 1,000 hour programs! That is serious! Glad you’re learning a lot. I wish all the states would require 1,000 hours. We would have more respect in the médical community. Thanks for stopping by & leaving a comment!

Hi Maria great information I appreciate you 🙏
Quick question How long should you wait to have a body massage after a Cortizone shot? Thank you
I would advice you to call your dr. Because every case might be different. I’ve had clients that come in the next day. Recently I had a client that got one on her wrist & dr. Said it was ok to come in. Just to make sure give them a call.
Thank you Maria, I felt the same way!
Maria do you mean make sure you call them, do mean the doctor?
@@anasoares3389ask your client to call their doctor to ask if they can get a massage right away or do they need to wait. Some doctors say wait others say no waiting is necessary. It depends on where the shot is administered and why. If it’s for a severe injury you might need to wait a few days.
Thank you for the video! I became a licensed massage therapist in Sept 2020. I am very interested learning Neuromuscular massage techniques. Can you recommend a reputable course?
Congratulations!!! I learned from the Judith Delaney School however the St. John method is basically the same. I would research if they have any classes going on. I will be putting a class together for CE in the beginning of the year.
Awesome! Thank you so much!

We weren't taught much at all
And due to Covid we were short changed in our education.
I agree that everyone was short changed due to lockdown. That’s the reason I recorded the review & kinesiology videos! Bad production yet I just needed to help the students ! You seem resourceful so you’ll learn on your own. My advice is trade with as many people as you can. You really learn a lot by trading massages. Good luck 🤗❤️
