I follow many gardeners, but you are just so down to earth and I love it. There is a sense of kindness and being so humble about you that makes you shine. A true gem. Your gardens are amazing and your singing is icing on the cake (especially those old hymns). Keep wearing those flip-flops and doing what you do. I pray the Good Lord blesses your channel. Looking forward to the next one.
Well that made me a little teary! Thanks so much for your comment. And God made me read it at the exact right time ill just say that! I appreciate you taking the time to say all these encouraging words Dawn truly!
I agree!! Everytime I watch your videos, ... Your humbleness, kindness, and gratefulness shines as I receive it and compels me to flow that goodness to others! Thank you and God bless you exceeding!!❤
Just found your channel and I love how down to earth you are. I feel that we have alot in common because, I too, grew up listening to the old gospel and country and still listen. And... I love my shovel too!! It is my trusty sidekick and we have dug many a hole and planted so many plants over the years. I would be lost without it!!
Yes, yes! Who bought dirt a few years ago😂 I’m 67 yrs and I’m trying to remember when I started buying dirt? Now I think I spent more money on dirt, compost and mulch than plants🤪my husband ask me every time he goes out if I need more dirt👏
you always thank us, but I want to thank you for all you do.. You brighten my day especially if I am having a hard one. Blessings and love for you and your hubby
Jes….you are so genuine and real! That’s something that can’t be faked. Love your channel and your garden. You have a beautiful voice and I love hearing you sing….especially the old gospel favorites. God bless! 🪴🌸🌹🪴💕
I'm with you on the shovel. It's undeniably more beautiful to see someone using a shovel because of what it requires (the power, balance, and coordination of human muscle) and what it reveals (the wonderful breaking of the soil). Remember, an augur requires a battery, and a battery is toxic waste. Finally, the shovel doesn't make its own noise. It is quiet. Only the little sounds that come from the use of it make their way to the human ear. We are the poorer for no longer hearing the music of the push mower, the broom, and the rake.
Wow you took it to a whole other level and I love it!! This is all so true. I think sometimes we can easily think we need upgrades non stop. And then we get to a point where we are so overloaded. I love just going back to the basics! Thanks for expanding on my small love for my simple shovel, I love it even more now :)
Stuart is super funny! I grew up in Hawaii-barefoot. 🌴🌺 Now I live in SC and have copperheads and rattlesnakes in my yard. 😣 I wear my steel toe boots or my wellies.
To see the joy in your face when you speak about gardening is so precious. I just love your videos because of the joy in your face simply because of the love you have for gardening ❤️🥰
Thank you for your channel. I love watching, learning, and getting inspire by you. I love how your grateful for your dirt and even those little critters because God made them to also enjoy your garden.. Lol!! I love this perspective!!. Great reminder!! I also love my shovel and love digging my holes too! I think it's a wonderful and great work out. You are soo kind, sweet, and grateful that everytime I watch your videos, your sweetness flows unto me. You remind me to also be kind, sweet, and grateful. Thank you for being you and inspiring us! God bless you, your family, and your garden!
Jes, you're very blessed to have good soil. We live in Conyers, Georgia and its red clay! We have to amend all of our soil. Also, we battle very heavy humidity. You cannot dig a hole with a shovel in Georgia. Well, you can but you will know that you did it. Very hard ground! We had to purchase the expensive Power Planter auger. But we can't live without it. As time goes by, we keep amending our soil so hopefully it will improve. We also battle wisteria. Never, never, plant wisteria if you don't want it to take over. It grows prolifically in Georgia! Anyway, thanks for sharing your gardening journey. We really enoy it!
You are the brightest star I have seen recently. I really love watching your Movies and I have introduced you to a friend of mine and she bought 11 hosta this morning from Meijer on clearance this morning and I did earlier this week. I love that you picked the plants out that we shopped. Meijier has the best plants and I don’t think people know about these gems. Big fan of your and I didn’t know you were the singer on your videos and now I have to go back and rewatch and listen harder.
Awe Lisa thank you very much! This is very nice of you to say all these things to me. I appreciate it! I agree, I think sometimes Meijer may be off people radar but they really do have some great things :)
Exactly how I found ur channel was thru Landscape Rescue / w Stuart Moore. His channel actually rescued me from the depression & grief I have been dealing with since losing my dear mother & amazing husband within 2 months of each other. U r also so refreshing to watch but when u sing the depressing songs I do have to stop watching but u r truly talented person & when u & Coco harmonize its beautiful.Sounds like such a loving family u have❤
Awe thanks for sharing! I wonder if maybe I started putting the songs in the description more and then you could have a heads up for the ones that make you feel sad. Maybe that would help. I love Stuart! I can see how he helped you because he is such a joy to watch, so funny and down to earth and honest. Thanks for sharing and being here 🥰
Lol ...u crack me up - literally make me laugh out loud ...the Jack Barnwell chat - funny - ..luv u Jes !! :):) I need all the laughs I can get in my life ( ps I am a woman, and your mothers age, so am not hitting on u when i say "i luv u" haha) I am SO glad u got to chat to him !
No augers here. I love to hand dig. I also like to water, so no irrigation system here either. Yes Jack Barnwell is a very gracious man. I met him at Driftwood Gardens in Naples FL a few years ago. Had no idea who he was. After talking to him about a few shrubs I thanked him for his help and he told me he didn't work there. So I thought he was just a local landscape designer. A few months later I watched one of his videos and found out he was the creator of the AquaPots that I absolutely love. Small world. Looking forward to seeing him again in Mackinac. ( and Laura too. 😊)
Oh my gosh Marianne that so funny, he said I don't work here. haha!! yes I love watering too, its so relaxing!! Have fun at the Garden Show!! That so great you are able to attend!
I enjoyed the Q&A so much. You are a sweet sweet young woman and very hard working gardener with a great eye and lovely gardens. I am in central Florida and wear flip flops while doing small chores like watering and dead heading but like another viewer I too have lots of ants so if I am doing digging (with a shovel which I also prefer 😉) I wear socks and shoes. Those darn ant bites hurt, itch, take days to heal and leave scars I mentioned in a comment a few weeks ago I had broken my wrist while gardening and you so kindly responded to my comment wishing me well. Praise the Lord it is pretty much healed except for some hand weakness that is improving, so I am back working in my garden doing easy chores and am loving it. I was kind of cranky when I couldn't be out in the garden, was having withdrawal I guess, lol. Enough rambling I am going to catch up on your last two videos now. 😁
LOL Deb Id be cranky too! That would be just terrible. Im so glad you are back at it even if its just a little bit. And if I had an ant problem Id wear socks and shoes as well that is scary!!
He’s Jes you are the sweetest , most precious, (old soul) 😊I appreciate the old country & gospel songs & your memories of time with your Grandparents singing them. I also appreciate that you still use a shovel. Every other Gardner on u tube copy each other & if one uses an auger then they all do. Your such a breath of fresh air. I was watching Stuart when he talked about you , & yes he’s funny. Have a great day 🇺🇸🐿🦝🐇
Jes, fellow flip flop wearer in the garden from Florida here. I grew up on the beach if you weren't barefooted then you had on flip flops even at school. 🤣 I so enjoyed this Q & A would love if you did this maybe once every two weeks or once a month, just an idea. Love that you embrace your old soul, your connection to nature and your flip flops. 🤷♀️🦋🐛🐞🐜🪴
Thanks Michele I was watching back thinking goodness sakes that was a little intense on a couple of my answers, coulda been wrapped up in like 3 sentences LOL but thank you!!
About the pond, why not use the area where the bench is, the stones lay out a prefect shape. And the bench would be nice over in the shade, just my 2 cents. I'm with you about the shovel, but I guess if I were planting 1000's of bulbs at once, I'd be really happy I had a big auger, but I don't have a big man to help me. Keep the squirrels off your roof, I had them eat a hole in mine, $750 later, they ate a hole at the other dormer.
Good suggestion. I'm actually re thinking the pond after someone's good advice on here. I might do some other type of water fixture instead. It takes me a while to make a decision on things that cost money so we will see LOL the squirrels are so crazy!!
Totally with you on the gardening barefoot or with flip flops… love watching your movies. You are so genuine & real. Love your garden, you are so lucky to have all the wild animals - I’m so jealous.
I find Hydrangeas in my zone 8 cannot take any afternoon sun, morning only, I have drip on all 12 varieties and must water at least 2 times daily. Beautiful till August and then start to look pretty bad. Must compost with a very good quality. KH
Enjoyed this Q&A. I love watching you garden and hearing you sing your music. My husband sings and writes music too. I totally understand you saying that singing your music is intimidating because my husband says the same thing. He started a RUclips channel during the pandemic but didn’t want me to tell our family and friends. He used to sing at church and everyone used to ask when he was going to sing again. Talent like yours and his is a gift from God and should be shared. I wish I could sing but God only gave me the gardening talent. 😂
Thanks Angela! You know, a lot of things can be learned from just trial and error. And everyone's space is so different with many variables so you just have to learn what works best for you!! Good luck! And stay positive out there!
I do watch your movies!!! Lol!!! Keep up the great work I look forward to watching your channel grow I'm glad I could help and thank you for the shout out who's cutting on onions
What!? STUART your here!! Seriously that was very nice of you. I got so excited i recorded my screen and sent it to my husband to show him right away! LOL. Then I watched like 6 of your movies in a row! You are hilarious and sooo knowledgeable!!
@@jesthesinginggardener join our Facebook group you have a lot to add I'm sure everyone would love to have you there. Link is in the description it's pretty low key and fun.
I love listening to your channel while I work. I have a desk job and listen more than I watch. I didn't realize that was you! So lovely. Beautiful yard. Enjoying your channel.
You are so inspiring! You have compassion for Gardening, Creatures, and I love you think of yourself as an Old Soul.It is good knowing that a young person as yourself has such a Good Heart.
1st love your singing an chosen songs.next im like you, markdown plants, but mostly love, absolutely love your gully garden, lastly been watching since you enlarged the island bed, keep up the great work an I'll keep watching..from northwest ohio.
Hi Jess. I saw that video from Stewart. I believe he called you the singing gardener. I knew exactly who he was talking about. Keep up the good work, I love your video's, people respond well to those that are genuine.
I enjoy watching your channel. I noticed how much you like old country music. I grew up listening to Loretta Lynn. (I’m a country girl too;I grew up on a farm.) I am well acquainted with a shovel and other hand tools. I tried a smaller auger, but I keep hitting tree roots, so I just use my little shovel. I used to live outside Kalamazoo and had all kinds of wildlife in my yard. One afternoon a flock of turkeys just paraded through the backyard. A big old raccoon lived in the oak tree by the deck.
yes i use an auger for bulbs and always hit roots and rocks is so annoying but easier than a shovel i guess. That's so cool, we used to have a raccoon family living in an old oak tree in our from yard growing up, I totally just remember that from your comment!
THANK YOU for answering my question on heucheras! I live in Wisconsin in zone 5 and will definitely try some of the varieties you suggested. I'm also team shovel; I love my favorite shovel; no other shovel will work. I look forward to more videos with great music. God bless.
They are also known in cooler climates to push themselves up and when that happens they start dying slowly over time. Look at the crown and see if yours are pushed up from the ground and if they are...dig them up and plant them deeper. I'm in zone 5 and this happens here. 😊
I agree j love love my chavel,I’ll never get an hauger!! You ard the sweetest and you have a gorgeous voice !! I’m with you ,I grew up in thd country 😀
Jes, I just love watching your videos..So glad I found you. Your voice in the music is just beautiful. I live your matter of fact attitude in gardening. You just get right to it! You encourage me. Wish I was as young as you are now (im 66) things would have gone differently over the years of my gardening experiences. I will keep enjoying your "movies!"
Thank you so much Nancy! I just try to stay true to who I am and who God created me to be. Takes the pressure and the comparison off my shoulders. I appreciate what you said!
Good Q&A. Just a reminder Jack Barnwell probably gets discounts from PW because he work on such huge expensive landscapes. I have an endless summer crush I bought last year and it bloomed its head off this year. I’m In NCZ8A so I don’t have any of my hydrangeas in 4+ hours son. We are very hot and humid. Your garden is beautiful.
Please make a video of you just singing and playing an instrument. I would sit (probably would be working in my yard) and listen to you for hours. WHO ELES IS WITH ME?
Girl, you and I are sole mates!!! Not a fan of shoes since I was little and tried flushing them down the toilet!! Love going barefoot all the time. Your videos give me such a sense of calm and peace. Must be your love and Jesus. 🥰
I like the way you think about the soil and being careful about spending on flowers. At some point will you do a video of plants that than be divided as you do some time.
No pond under trees. It will be full of branches, twigs and leaves in a week. No pond in raccoon alley. The fish won’t live a night. The raccoons will have them for late night snacks. Squirrels drank constantly in my pond and chomped on my plants. The raccoons came for late night drinks and did so much damage to the surrounding plants. Ask me if I almost lost my mind? I live in southeast Michigan and I just took out my pond. The critters, repairing their damage and the general maintenance to just keep it clean and presentable just became too overwhelming. You have so much acreage. If you really want a pond, don’t put it too close to the woods. I tried putting in light motion detectors as a deterrent. Didn’t work. Save your sanity.
This made me laugh so hard!! Thank you so much for your advice. Ill rethink it for sure. What about a waterfall that might not be as bad? No fish, I wouldn't do fish anyway.
When you were answering the woman's question about finding heuchera hard to grow you didn't mention heaving. Maybe it's not a problem in your zone. I live in southwest Missouri, zone 6a. The roots tend to heave out of the ground when the ground freezes and thaws during the winter. You have to check each plant and make sure the roots are firmly in the ground in the spring. That is also a good time to take divisions. Stuart from Garden Rescue is from this area. He is funny and also thrifty like you. :))
Yes you are so right!! I thought about that later actually when I was out in my garden and had to replant one of my eye spy heuchera that was popping up! Thats a great point!!
I am a young 70 year old that started gardening at about the age of 24. I always would wear flip flops or barefoot also. I am a retired Emergency Room Nurse. Since I have been retired now 4 years my ankles can't handle the flip flops anymore. Foot doctor says yes old people have arthritis but something causes that. He says my no support of ankles with flip flops over so many years has done this to my ankles and instep. I wear supported sneakers now and it does help but wish I would have known better years ago what I was doing to my body wearing flip flops most of my life. One more thing Jes don't mean to harp but the sun will sunburn your hair also, which I never wore a hat because I wanted my hair to bleach out which is the worst thing one can do for their scalp and hair so I started wearing at least a baseball cap with my hair pulled up in the cap. Love your songs, your sweetness, your parents should be very proud of you. Loved the video today.
Thanks Paige!! Im so sorry about that with your flip flop feet. You are probably right and Im sure one day ill pay for it! Ill try to keep putting shoes on here and there for some extra support. Its gonna be hard though LOL Great tip about the hat!! I love my hats too sometimes I forget to throw one on. Thanks so much for watching and for all your concern you are so sweet!! :)
Yes I have! Some of the little stump i have around are actually loose stumps I just put there. I want to hollow a couple permanent ones and plant something in them too!
Jes, I have watched quite a few of your videos and enjoy them very much, I love that you sing and include your own songs. You are a refreshing multitalented soul. I understand your connection to nature and wildlife. I feel the same and welcome all the critters to my gardens. Except currently I am cursing at this one squirrel who is eating all my asparagus ferns ...ugh. You mentioned your movies, I have not been able to find information about them. What movies have you been in? I usually don't see many movies so that's probably why I haven't seen you. Does any one else know? I feel like the only one here who doen't know who Jes is. ( sorry but Google searching is not helping).
Marianne, Jes refers to her youtube videos as her "movies". I find her doing so to be so endearing. So your not missing her movies if you are watching her RUclips videos a/k/a movies right here on her channel. Oh by the way I hope your little squirrel doesn't invite his other critter friends over for asparagus fern dinners. 🤣 Marianne I hope you have a wonderful day. 🪴 😊
LOL the girls are correct below. I just call them movies I guess cuz I make them on my iPhone in an app called iMovie so I just have that in my head. Sorry to confuse! The squirrels can be bullies sometimes in my yard! They are always knocking things over and stealing all the bird seed. They are cute but goodness they can be a pain I know! And asparagus fern doesn't look the greatest after its been snacked on that's for sure! hang in there!
OH My gosh! NO way, I bet the smell was horrible. I grew up next to a farmers field and field mice would get caught in our walls and die and its smelled so bad! I sorry!!
Thank you for answering questions for us all. I have a few more, my iris are done blooming and the foliage is flopping over< do you know why and can i cut it back?
Iris usually start to fall over after a few years of being in the ground. So you may have to dig them up and divide them into smaller clumps! And I would do that at the end of summer/fall. Then cut them back at the same time leaving like 1/3 of the plant. If its getting too much shade or too much fertilizer that could be why its falling over too. But generally they just need a good division!
Jes can you please tell me about the auger you have. I want to order daffodil bulbs. Also when you purchased it from would help. Thank you. I love my shovel to!
@@jesthesinginggardener how many volts is the drill? Is it a special drill? I bought one from tractor supply and it really didn’t do what I thought it would. They only had 1 auger. I see they have 2” and 3” ones on line. Along with a drill with a side handle. I’ve got clay soil here in Indianapolis.
Hey Jes it’s obvious your singing is lovely so it’s a great idea to use your music instead of paying money to one of those sites that provides music for videos. Instead you can use your own music for us to enjoy and that you enjoy sharing. Works perfectly!!! :)
Keep gardening and singing, you're a gem 💛

Chantel! Thanks for your perspective on the animals! Ill remember that next time I start to get discouraged LOL. Thanks for watching
Absolutely LOVE your songs on your videos!
Use augers with care. My little auger grabbed some roots and wrenched and twisted my wrists! Shovels provide much more control for me.
I find Hydrangeas in my zone 8 cannot take any afternoon sun, morning only, I have drip on all 12 varieties and must water at least 2 times daily. Beautiful till August and then start to look pretty bad. Must compost with a very good quality. KH
Thanks!
Hi Jes, love watching your videos and hearing your sweet voice.
Yes Teresa this is so true I completely understand. Thanks so much for sharing about your husband, glad im not the only one
I’d love to hear you sing some Patsy Cline
I’m a barefoot girl too. I’m usually barefoot when I garden.
Jes. I'm 74 and I still garden in flip flops also! Watching you garden in them makes me smile.😄❤
Thanks Beverly!
I enjoy watching you very much i havent been gardening very long i enjoy learning from you
Thanks Angela!
Awe thats so nice of you!! Thanks for listening 😉
Jess, You are so sweet!! Love your channel and will continue to watch!!!
thanks!
You are so inspiring! You have compassion for Gardening, Creatures, and I love you think of yourself as an Old Soul.It is good knowing that a young person as yourself has such a Good Heart.
Wow, thank you
You are just so sweet. Loving your videos
Such a pure heart you have.😊❤
1st love your singing an chosen songs.next im like you, markdown plants, but mostly love, absolutely love your gully garden, lastly been watching since you enlarged the island bed, keep up the great work an I'll keep watching..from northwest ohio.
Thank you so much Viola!
Hi Jess. I saw that video from Stewart. I believe he called you the singing gardener. I knew exactly who he was talking about. Keep up the good work, I love your video's, people respond well to those that are genuine.
Thanks Marilyn
You truly have the sweetest heart. Thank you for all the movies!!
You have a beautiful voice.
If you like Sunshine on my Shoulders you should listen to John Denver's Take Me Home Country Roads. I would love to hear you sing that song.
love that one!
I’m a flip flop gardener to. An old tooth brush and toothpaste cleans toenails
🤣 good to know!
You are so welcome! Oh WI zone 5 thats so similar to me. Good luck!! God bless too
Yes Kylie this is so true!!! Great thing to bring up!!!
I love your flip flop gardening.. I'm one too... 🌻🌷🌻🌷🌻
I agree j love love my chavel,I’ll never get an hauger!!
You ard the sweetest and you have a gorgeous voice !!
I’m with you ,I grew up in thd country 😀
Please sing more in your videos, such a beautiful voice.
Hi Jess, new subscriber here, I stumble upon ur video, and was stun on ur beautiful gardens!..Michigander myself!..oh love your music!
Oh hey Neighbor, thanks so much for the kind words!!
Awe.. you’re welcome & thank you for singing it. You sang it beautifully just like I knew you would 😊♥️
🤗
I've learned Hydrangeas like Acidic soil also to bloom may try that. Love ur gardens and singing.
I use a shovel too.
I love you and your video's. Love my shovel, too. Love your sing and your songs.
You could do a pond less waterfall. They’re very nice from what I can tell and seem like a lot less maintenance.
hmm 👍 thats an idea!
Thats great to keep in mind! Im so glad your endless summers did well for you. I just had a horrible time but it was probably user error!!
I did like all the music. Thanks keep it up
thanks shirley!
John Denver has the best older folk songs!
Im gonna do a deep dive! I haven't listened to him in so long
Please make a video of you just singing and playing an instrument. I would sit (probably would be working in my yard) and listen to you for hours. WHO ELES IS WITH ME?
Awe thanks Laura thats nice of you to request that! Maybe ill do that sometime! ❤😊
New subscriber here, love your channel and that voice! ❤
Oh Angie thank you very much for being here!!
Girl, you and I are sole mates!!! Not a fan of shoes since I was little and tried flushing them down the toilet!! Love going barefoot all the time. Your videos give me such a sense of calm and peace. Must be your love and Jesus. 🥰
🤣🤣🤣Thats awesome!! Oh boy do I love Jesus!
Love your videos Jess. Whats not to love. I learn a little each time how things work in your zone as Im close in zone 5A South east Wisconsin
Awesome!😊
I like the way you think about the soil and being careful about spending on flowers. At some point will you do a video of plants that than be divided as you do some time.
Great idea! yes! And thanks for the encouragement
Thanks for the info on the edging!!!
for sure!
I went back to Stuart’s video from 7days ago, to hear the “shout-out” to you, Jes..
LOL it was so nice of him!
I love the shove also but my ground is very hard and rocky it helps break it up...and I'm a old lady hahaha🧓
Yes that is true, i am blessed with pretty good soil so that helps im sure! LOL
Have you considered using the tree stumps for a stumpery?
Yes I have! Some of the little stump i have around are actually loose stumps I just put there. I want to hollow a couple permanent ones and plant something in them too!
Jes, you are as beautiful as your garden 😍
It's encouraging watching you with your shovel!!!
So nice of you Renee thank you!!
Jes,
I have watched quite a few of your videos and enjoy them very much, I love that you sing and include your own songs.
Marianne I hope you have a wonderful day. 🪴 😊
I believe she is referring to her you tube videos as movies.
Hi Jess, I am the person that had a chipmunk 🐿 in my house. Well I ever could catch him. He died under my spare bed.
I just got that at ACE hardware. It was like 15 dollars and I think I got about 3 years ago in 2019. I only use it for bulbs!
I love my flip flops also I have a flip flop tan line lol
LOL thats awesome me too!
I love my shovel. Not a fan of the extra noise, disturbing someone eles peace.
Might be pruning the Annabelle at the wrong time. They like morning sun and afternoon shade.
good tip!
Maybe she is cutting off the blooms. Just leave them alone and keep them watered and give them time to grow blooms.
How are you
Hy
I'm sorry but I must disagree with Jack. My Endless Summer Hydrangeas bloom from Spring til Fall! They're work horses!
Thats awesome!!! Ive had horrible success with them, but that could be my fault not enough sun and not enough water lol
Hey Jes it’s obvious your singing is lovely so it’s a great idea to use your music instead of paying money to one of those sites that provides music for videos. Instead you can use your own music for us to enjoy and that you enjoy sharing. Works perfectly!!! :)
Thank you so much!!
