- Happy New Year, everyone! It's the end of the year and so it is time for the annual "Year of Trains in Review" video were we take a look back at all the different trains and railroads I was able to capture on video over the last 12 months. It was a busy year with several new steam locomotives, brand new Amtrak ALC-42 Charger locomotives and Siemens built Venture cars entering service, ancient former Southern Pacific SD9 locomotives still in revenue service, all sorts of different specially painted celebratory locomotives, Coaster locomotive 2105 being moved in preparation for transport to the Southern California Railway Museum in early 2023, and more! Thanks, everyone, for making 2022 such a great year. Happy 2023!
Q&A Questions: I am also now taking questions for the 2023 Q&A video! If you haven't already posted a question that you want featured in the video and you would like to do so, post them down below as a reply to my pinned comment. Thanks!

Q&A Questions: Hey, everyone! Thanks for joining me for the Year in Review video! I am once again taking questions for my annual Q&A video. So, if you have any questions for me that you’d like featured in the video, post those as a reply to this comment. Thanks!
What is exactly the year of trains?
Hi coaster fan it’s me Acela2000. As you know, I’ve been watching you for nearly a decade now and my question is what advice do you have for aspiring railfanner’s? Much love have a happy new year.
For Q&A:
1. Did you know their's a app where you can track Heritage units?
2. Did you go see 3751 When it went to Fullerton in September?
Do you have friends any chance?
Which Amtrak heritage unit is the first one you saw?
AMTK P42s or ALC-42 and SC-44?
My Q&A Questions:
1. Do you think Cajon Pass is cool, despite having three runway accidents in 1989, 1994, and 1996?
2. Are you planning on seeing Canadian National 7312 back in operation soon at the Strasburg Railroad?
3. Do you like the Santa Fe 2-10-4s?
For as long as I can remember through grade school I have been watching your channel and as a senior of 2023 it feels surreal that this is my last year of trains in review as a high schooler. Thank you, Mike for being a source for train content over the past decade.
You're very welcome! And thanks for watching! I'm glad you've enjoyed the videos over the years.
I've been watching you for 19 years
@@davidcummins6135 that's older than youtube😆

Hey Mike, I've been watching your channel for a looong time, and I've watched the quality of your channel steadily increase to what it is today. Watching all these train clips just reminds me of how great you are at producing content, and how enjoyable you make railfanning. Have a happy new year, and I'm wishing you luck on 800k subscribers.
As for Q/A questions, what was your least favorite state to railfan in and why, and (ignoring all temporal paradoxes) if you got the chance to go back in time with your modern camera and technology, what era would you go back to?
Thanks for everything!
Love the horn on 2584 Mike and this compilation. And to you and your family a Happy New Year and we'll see you down the line.

For the Q&A video
Hey, @CoasterFan2105, have you thought of filming D&SNG 476 and 493? Because the 493 is back in steam and 476 is now part of the operating roster.

Can you Railfan more trains in Chicago and also Railfan the CTA sometimes when you are in Chicago, especially the yellow line, aka the Skokie Swift.
There will be a few more Chicago videos this year and I will hopefully be passing through this summer or fall!
Hey Mike I have a question what will happen to the Caltrain original F40PH locomotives when they retire from service in 2024?
Can I get a heart from CoasterFan2105
In 2023 you have to film Amtrak P42 on Surfliners
Will you be filming Caltrain once the electrification is complete? I was in the Bay Area this summer and saw the wire et al at several stations.
I will try, but no guarantees when that will be.
How long have concrete ties been around and why haven't they begun to supplant wooden ties ? Are there any switches made up with concrete ties ? Is there a movement to use recycled plastics ties ? What is the future of creosote wood ties ? Thank you C.F. !
Concrete ties were first developed in the late 1800s but didn't see widespread use until the later part of the 20th century. I think there have been some ties made with other composite materials, but not sure how much plastic has been used. Wooden ties will be around for a long time still, but more and more are being replaced over time, especially on major rail lines.
Have you heard that Amtrak’s Gulf Coast Limited is now running between Mobile AL to New Orleans LA coming in Summer 2023
Also Amtrak could eventually have passenger trains from New Orleans Louisiana to Miami Florida
What do yall think is the best steam locomotive in america? I think it's Union pacific Big Boy 4014 and SP 4449.
I'd probably have to agree. Those are two of my favorites.
Nice video
What is your favourite car?
Thanks coasterfan2105 I actually went to see the big boy in chyane Wyoming
2:25 Wow that Amtrak looked like it was gonna derail
If it were going 110 mph it probably would, I don't know how they made it through there, they could've died
imagine being in the gangway when that was happening
What camera do you use? -Thanks
Canon XF400 for video and Nikon D850 for still.
@@CoasterFan2105 Thank you!
What video was form at 19:33 for the lake shore limited?
It's a clip from when I was in Chicago in June. I haven't posted it in another video yet.
can you film a vid at the train shack in Burbank California
When are you going to make a toy trains galore 6
Nice Video
☘️🎄🇮🇳🎄☘️
Thank you!
Hello coaster fan 🙂🙂
Hello!
It's the end of 2022!
Yes it is!
CoasterFan if you make your way to Lebanon oregon soon the albany and eastern will have its second steam locomotive soon as mt emily shay is in Portland
13:49 Where are we?? There’s an NS Heritage Unit, and two BNSF’s, I’m confused??
Hola 👋
Do you think you’ll travel out of the country the film trains?
On the first clip why was amtrak 30 on dnsf power moves
It was disabled the previous night when it hit a tree. They placed the locomotive on a siding and BNSF towed it out of the mountains the next morning.
Thanks for the reply
And 4960 3751 and 844
2:28 wow that doesn’t look comfortable for the passengers lol
It a Great but you miss 2 steam locomotives reading and northern 425 and 2102
Unfortunately, I can't see everything, but I am hopeful that 2102 will be on the list for this year!
