    I have a 1941 BYF.It came with 2 magazines,one with an aluminium bottom and a black plastic one.The aluminium one has a matching number with my pistol,the plastic one has none.I have read that this was common.The plastic bottoms were made by Haenel to produce more mags for the German Army.Mines was a bring back from WWII from my dad's freind who was in Italy from the famed 100th/442nd INF.I never will forget this man,wounded 3 times and survived the war.Sold it to my dad and now I own it.

    You are most definitely correct. I made the mistake of thinking that just because they used it, they adopted it. Thank you for helping me out!

    The Roth-Steyr M1907 was formally adopted by the Austro-Hungarian Army in 1907 (hence the name). The Luger was officially adopted by the Swiss Army in 1900. The M1907 was just being designed when the Luger was adopted.

    Nice post , my friend . I own a Mitchell Arms American Eagle stainless Luger made in 1991 . Aimco made 'em , Stoeger & Mitchell were the distributors .A very nice " Luger " if all you want is a shooter w/ no historical significance . I've wanted one since I saw my grandfather's 1936DWM & now I own one that I'll let anybody shoot . Recoil is very different than a Browning design , it just kinda " hops " in your hand ...EVERYBODY wants to shoot a Luger & snap cellphone pics .Semper Fi ,God Bless

    The first automatic pistol that was adopted by a military is Mauser c96, not P08. C96 became the sidearm for the Ottoman Army officers in 1897.

    I cannot confirm that in 1942 the magazines did not have serial numbers, but it would make sense since they was pumping out as many arms as they could and magazines were lost all the time. Not serializing something allowed them to produce them faster.

    I really couldn't say without looking at it. If all the parts are matching, the bore is good, it has a majority of its blueing and it functions well, it could go for $1000+. But if one thing is off it could drop it to $600-$700. If you want a real price, go to an appraiser. Some gun shops will do that for you.

    I use to own the .22 luger made by stoeger (I hope I spelled it right). I trade a salvage mark 2 rifle to get it. It was a great looking pistol, although I always jammed unless you fired hot loaded .22 rounds. Ended up trading it off.

  • @BTR1389

    That pistol uses the 7.65 x 20mm Longue which is a straight wall cartridge unlike the 7.65 Luger, which is necked down. I did a little searching and couldn't find any place to get the ammunition. Unfortunately, unless you find some old French ammo, you're out of luck since no other cartridge is like that one.

    The reproductions I've heard of that are true to the old design and actually function properly are usually very expensive. Like in the thousands of dollars range. Other than local gun shops the best place I know of to buy firearms is GunBroker. It's a website like eBay, but for guns.

    Great video, I picked up a 1916 DWM Luger in 9mm and I'm very anxious to shoot it. The overall condition is very good with some slight wear on the grips but thats OK wih me, they give the gun character. When I bought it it didn't have a mag with it but I'm looking and and hope to throw some lead downrange with it soon!

    The 9mm is more practical for self defense though, also the 9x19mm parabellum round was made famous with this weapon.

  • @MrDimitriPetrenko
    @MrDimitriPetrenko 11 лет назад

    You should just try to find a new barrel to fire the 9mm round since the .30 Luger is hard to find. Like you said, all you needed to do is change the barrel to convert the pistol; plus, if you could find a reproduction barrel, it would not harm the original .30 Luger barrel :)

    The reason I do a safety check is mainly so I don't get a bunch of comments saying I should do it. It also reminds people to always be safe and check, which isn't a bad thing.

    love the stock lugers. still. the stock is even rarer then the luger. and more expensive than the luger. a mint one did sell for 17000 dollars. for a unik luger the 1919 delux model.

  • @BTR1389
    @BTR1389  12 лет назад

    Gun Broker is probably your best bet. For a decent Luger you're probably going to spend $900 at least. I recommend getting a 9mm one because the ammo is much, much cheaper.

    I was watching a Vid' on the history of the 1911, the Vid' was created by the NRA NAtional fire arms museum (\ think that what it was called) anyway. They said that the US military requested 200 pistols for testing Savage and Colt where the only 2 that made the 200, Luger made 2 and they said something about those 2 lugers are the most valuable Lugers today. They sold for 1,000,000 each .Now I didn't know I was going to be repeating some of this information so the details might be slightly off.

  • @BTR1389
    @BTR1389  12 лет назад

    Thanks! Honestly, I don't like the caliber much. It's just not common enough so it's expensive and if you want to reload it, it is more difficult because it is a necked down cartridge. Other than that, it shoots fine and has very manageable recoil.

    I believe the frame of your Luger to be older than 1920...specifically pre 1914 because yours is lacking the stock lug at the back of the grips that were present on all Lugers made 1914 and after.

  • @MrDimitriPetrenko
    @MrDimitriPetrenko 11 лет назад

    Oh well, but I'm sure you can find a custom one somewhere, maybe even a gunsmith can fashion you one. I'm sure that no matter how expensive it is at first, you would save money in the long run by not needing to purchase the .30 Luger cartridge. I am probably wrong though, I don't know of anyone who has a custom Luger barrel. Well, good luck to you with your shooting anyways :)

    Why? when the .30 with it's bottleneck feeds so much better in this design, and the .30 is just a great round, try finding ANY ammo now anywhere even 9mm, my point, once internet sales are back to where they should be, you can get .30 a lot easier. 9mm is to finicky in these guns, and only certain brands work in certain Lugers.
