Automotive history is lost if not retold every once in a while. A sadly considerable amount of what this video has in it was news to me. I thought I knew everything. The look on my daughter's face when she learned that Chevrolet drove a Buick was priceless!!
Research and development in industry's skunk works is always (and I mean always) shrouded in secrecy because of a thing called "industrial espionage". Your competitors will steal your eyes if you let them. That explains why the historic records on such things is sketchy. Makes sense, doesn't it...?
Louis Chevrolet was a race car guy. He was very disappointed with Durant's decision to use the brand name for a low budget offering, he wanted Cadillac's prestige.
I think this is excellent and I love learning the history. I'm not sure why people feel the need to leave negative comments. I suppose it makes them feel Superior
There’s people out there that can’t stand read or hear about someone being successful. They are the types that today think that everyone that was successful become so by ill gotten means.
Hey, just shared this on my Buick forum and the Buick Facebook main page, and it is already getting re-shared by other Buick and General Motors fans. Hopefully i get you a lot of views, fantastic video, both parts. Thanks for posting! :)
In his book "My Years With General Motors" Sloan casts aside the talent of Durant as being a PT Barnum type with eyes bigger than his stomach when it came to integrating his acquisitions. While I think Sloan's era was amazing, he inherited a brilliant consolidation project envisioned by Durant.
David Dunbar Buick made the first V6 engine back in 1912, which means many years later became the regal Grand national after that the 3800V6, GM took credit for the engine but it was David Buick creativity that later allowed GM to claim world history for their V6 technology.
We love the Stewart’s of our 1927 Buick, hope I get to drive it a little more this year once we get some new tires on the old girl! She sat for 25-30 years after her prev owner passed away. She won’t sit now, we look forward to having her for the rest of her days and will never part w her!!!
I am an American, BUT I would love to know why the majority of the Worlds IMPORTANT inventions came from Scotland??....WHY?? and HOW are the Scots such geniuses....the World has to admire Scotland and its people for what we have today....including the best Whisky in the World if not the ONLY Whisky worth talking about in the World. Thank you SCOTLAND.
@Heinrich the White That verse does not speak of ALL Jews. Any and all creation who don't love JESUS are of their father the devil. Be saved and STAY saved so you won't miss the Rapture!
@@nickraschke4737 Yer. The Video is about Buick and The Fulla said Jesus is coming. So I thought he must be coming in a Buick! Kinda like me watching a YT Christian Video and Commenting. The 1934 Straight 8 Roadster is my Fav Buick!
David Dunbar Buick was born in Scotland. But isn't "Buick" a French name...? I guess that the Buick acquisition was mostly valuable to Will Durant because of the OHV patant. Maybe that explains why GM's Buick Division always got the lion's share of GM's R&D money in their skunk works even as late as the 1960's.
@@benjaminvalenzuela3948 Well... I didn't either until I came to this video. All through the history of the Industrial Revolution, Research and Development (also known as "The Skunk Works") has by necessity been shrouded in secrecy because of a thing called "Industrial Espionage" which basically means 'cover your ass or they will steal your eyes'... so facts and such can be sketchy about the details. That's the fact of life. Governmental Patent Coverage is key. But now, due to differences in political ideologies where Communism does not honor private property over governmental control you have the ChiComs stealing everything while Joe Biden gives it all away to them. Your pension will not be worth the paper it's printed on when you retire and you will find yourself on the short end of a ration line with your hat in your hand... Good luck...!!!
Love the history and the Reader has a great clear voice.

Fascinating looking at auto history. Rolls Royce started later in 1905.

Scotch whisky is the most horrid thing, it's disgusting.
