dean martin was the most successful performer in history: he was a major movie star; he was a major televsion and recording star; he was a major concert and club performer. With Jerry Lewis he was the biggest club act working at the time No one else was so dominant in so many areas. Notice the word performer though - he wasn't in Frank Sinatra's class as singer
Some folks are giving this show bad reviews, but I disagree. Mr. Martin was in already in failing health, 66 years old, "across the pond" and still performs well. Who could have expected him to be 100 percent like he had been 20 years earlier? Overall, a very good show. We love and miss Dino!
Agree 100%, he was failing a bit here, but overall very good. I always say to performers, do your thing and get out while you're good, I can't stand what Cher and others are still doing, in the name of what? money, go home , it's over. The Stones will be in my home town, Chicago, soon, I'm 70 now, can't even go to the show, I hear it's sold out, who the hell is going there, wheel chairs all over the place/ It's crazy!
I was there at the Apollo Victoria . It was a special treat from me and my sisters for my Mum and Dad I was 19 and couldn't believe I was going to see such an old man ! Once he was on stage ... wow ! He was incredibly charismatic and yet so friendly and a wonderful singer.
Dean Martin, the very definition of Mr Cool. The songs written for him were great, but he sure made them sound a lot greater than they would've sounded, had they been sung by anybody else. And always with a touch of humour. Thank you for having posted this, so Mr Cool Dean can live on for posterity.
Also I'm very happy to hear from Dean. He came to LONDON with his wife Jeanne with we all will pleasure to Dean & JeanneHis singing never changed always attractive & lovely.
James M But not the same as we see him here. Everyone seems to agree that Dean more or less gave up on life after Dean Paul was killed in that terrible plane crash just 5 years after this concert.
I love The Good Old Western Genre (You just don't see a good one made anymore (sans Kevin Costner or Robert Duvall) and one of my favorites was Deano playing a bad guy in "Rough Night In Jericho" so confident in himself he could tempt Type Casting
60Cascade right! I didnt know he sang too until some 1-2 years ago when i watched him on youtube on a Dick Cavett interview. nice interview. then i went on youtube to check more. He not only sang but he did a calypso album too. He found out the writer of the songs he recorded wasnt getting any royalties for them.so he helped the guy out.. cant remember what he did. Nice songs. Robert mitchums rendition of this song isnt bad...nice and cool . Like Dean he was cool! . Someone said that he probably shit ice cubes..lol
I think Kenny was the piano guy in Dean's TV show of late 60's early 70's, when Dean came down the firehouse pole, he landed on the piano, anybody? Am I right?
EyeShotFirst Don't forget they had been friends for more than 20 years, Ken had been Deans pianist on his variety show back in the 1960s and had written his big hit Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime (the song that famously knocked the Beatles off the top of the charts in 1964, a feat that even Sinatra never achieved)
Love Dean as a singer, as an artist a.s.o. - but as a member of the "rat pack" - n o, but Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford und Shirley MacLaine - near to the "MOB" - ok. other times - but nevertheless doubtful!
There is an old saying that people should grow old with dignity. Dean was my all time favorite entertainer. In this video he is already seen frail and tired, should not have even been there. His performance was bad, his voice not the same, I noticed he missed some words in the song, pity. I see the audience clapping and happy not for his performance, but for who he is, a great performer that will probably never be equaled. Dino, RIP............................................
+varigdc10 Actually he didn't miss a single word and it's amusing that you would presume to say WHY the audience was clapping. His performance here was quite good and nobody with any DIGNITY would expect someone in their 60s to perform as well as they did in their prime. DEAN MARTIN WAS THE CONSUMMATE PERFORMER AND THIS VIDEO PROVES IT. I'm sorry you're unable to recognize the grace and dignity this man possessed when it's right before you.
60Cascade OK, OK, OK, perhaps I missed what you saw and felt, I apologize if I caused you and others any pain and suffering with my comment, no matter what, he was and still is my favorite singer of all time....................
varigdc10 nobody sounds the same 40 years later you twat. of course he wasn't as good a singer as in his prime but still a superb performer. Coolest guy ever
John Honeyman Agreed, please read my earlier comment above, and this past Saturday saw Toni Orlando and Toni Wine ( she wrote Candida, and other songs ), and they were still pretty good, with both Tony and Toni already in their 70's, happy listening to you and Merry Christmas!
Love his reaction to the pianist singing 😂😂
Me too
Dean Martin past his prime is more entertaining and talented than most pop stars today.
Not difficult really a class act!
Absssofeckinlutely xx in total abundance xxxxxxx

May have been failing health but he still the BEST
Cool without effort. Stylish and elegant.
So handsome
Legend. Such a consummate performer. Shame they don't make them like that anymore.
I was there at the Apollo Victoria . It was a special treat from me and my sisters for my Mum and Dad I was 19 and couldn't believe I was going to see such an old man ! Once he was on stage ... wow ! He was incredibly charismatic and yet so friendly and a wonderful singer.

A real class act
Like to hear Dean sing Little Ole Wine Drinker Me. He sounds ok. Him and Ken Lane.
He was perfect!!!
only the one and only dean can sing this, dave gow
Robert Mitcham done a good version befor Dean did it
Dean Martin was "the man". He was the complete package in terms of an entertainer for me even more so than the likes of Sinatra, Davis Jnr and Darin.
fantastic!!!!
B be had this song for his funeral. I love my dad
Still listening all these years later ❤
Great version.
Its obviously not the same as it was 10 or so years prior to this, but i still think he does it really well.
Still the consummate performer! Three dislikes?
I also don't understand why people dislike...
Count my Vote for "Don't Understand Dislikes"! (Had to be wine drinkers couldn't tell Like Tab from Dislike"ha ha
10. out of 10
This is a great show and Deans age has nothing to do with it....he seems it fine form and the crowd are having a ball.
The best

Dean Martin the epitome of cool

Donna Jacob He did indeed. Not as good as Dino of course, but not bad.
60Cascade right! I didnt know he sang too until some 1-2 years ago when i watched him on youtube on a Dick Cavett interview. nice interview. then i went on youtube to check more. mine to, THE MAN.
Is the piano player Ken Lane?
sam harris yeah. they were both quite advanced in age here.
I think so. Yes!
This is Ken Lane
I think Kenny was the piano guy in Dean's TV show of late 60's early 70's, when Dean came down the firehouse pole, he landed on the piano, anybody? Am I right?
Just a question folks was being drunk on stage a act
I love how Dean would joke with Ken. Like his "this man has been a communist for over 20 years." bit.

Kinda sad. Unlike Elvis whose voice really never left him, even atbthe end of his life, Deano really struggled with this one.
You do realize Dean Martin was 66 years old when he performed this.
Elvis died when he was only 42.
I disagree. I think his voice sounds fine. Especially for a 66 year old man
JAYJason6666 I agree. Dino had one of the best singing voices I've ever heard.
I'd agree. He struggled with the powerful low notes in the later years
Elvis was only 42 when he died. Dean was 76 when this was recorded. Who knows how Elvis's voice would of sounded had he lived to 76.
Peerless.
