In my opinion, the work is an art song and not an aria. And I find it very difficult to understand even individual words. That doesn't do justice to the text of Lady of the Lake. But that's just my opinion.

This is the Hail Mary prayer by Schubert, which has the same melody as Ellens Gesang III, Op. 52, No. 6, D. 839 “Ave Maria“, though the German Ellens Gesang has lyrics which have a completely different meaning, even though they are both prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Though listed as "Ellens Gesang III" by Schubert, she is actually singing the Latin text of a Catholic prayer to the Virgin Mary. Schubert set his Lied to a German text that has nothing to do with this prayer.
This is beautifully sung, but the title Ellen's Gesang refers to the German version of this music, which was the original by Schubert, and was a poem by Walter Scott called Lady of the Lake. The Latin was adapted into it later. Personally I like the German better, I think the words fit better into the music and the Latin is a bit awkwardly fit into it.
