Neil has the BEST sense of humor. He kills me with the way he'll just say something real straight, not hinting or giving any indication that he's being humorous, but once in a while you'll see him give a sly little smile off to the side when he's finished what he was saying. Its a dry sense of humor but he just slays me with it. His eyes give him away to me. They have a sneaky little twinkle in them, like he's just waiting to see who picks up on what he's saying, who got it that he was being funny. He just makes me laugh out loud. And I love the sly, little smile he'll give sometimes. He's so cool. So honest and true in his words. He explains the way he feels or does things so well. There's not much filter between what he thinks and what he says, which I LOVE. He's just my hero, idol, rock God, perfect musician, perfect human being, my absolute EVERYTHING! I just LOVE him, no matter what.
And I totally LOVE Tim Roth! He's an insanely talented actor. I love every movie I've seen him in and I think I've seen them all. He had great chemistry with Neil. He was just cool, unpretentious, truly interested in what Neil was saying. Asking pretty good questions that got thoughtful answers from Neil. They seemed to get along really well. You could tell Neil was relaxed and not bored by Tim's questions. I felt he was very at ease and comfortable with Tim. Kuddos to Tim, for that is not a state easily attained with Neil. There are only a f ew interviews I've seen of Neil where he is into the interview and enjoying his interviewer. Tim Roth is awesome. What a great idea it was to have him with Neil! I really enjoyed it. One of Neil's better interviews.
Huge contrast between today and back then ...they were so much more relaxed, calm, focused. Now, look at RUclips for example, the more popular are just all over the place mouthy toolbag personalities.
It was always like this. There is a strange polarity regarding attention. On the one hand, people seek attenion from others and this is considered to be shallow. Some lone mystic attempts to focus their attention in order to gain inner knowledge. The phenomenon of music is a mirror of consciousness, and by it's very nature is designed to capture your attention and not to bore you. The reality is that we all do these things at different times.
What made this interview so great was the connection between Tim Roth and Neil Young. As always Neil has an interesting perspective on life and his music. He refuses to become an old fart.
I feel like I'm on a 1st name basis with Neil. I'm sure most people feel the same way. He's so unpretentious, straight forward, unaffected- there is nothing he says or does that doesnt feel completely honest and real. I dont get that from other big stars.
Absolutely.... I've written songs, good ones, I believe and am told the same by people who've heard them ( see for yourself by searching RUclips for some of them under the name, Allus Cats), and I have played in bands all my life--in clubs and some large venues, too, and what Neil says about the many aspects of writing songs and performing is completely accurate and true. And...a "control freak" is what you have to be because 1...YOU are the only one who has that right, and 2...there's no other way for you to truly and honestly share with people the original feeling behind what you've created. But then beyond that, keep in mind that in some rare cases there can always come a time when someone else can contribute to what YOU have created, and you have to be honest enough to let them, as long as it's real on their part, and if you agree that it's contributory and doesn't conflict with the feel of the song. Nothing, however is 100% perfect, forever except in the creator's mind, body and soul. It's doubtful (not out of the question) that Neil will ever collaborate on a song with another writer...but there may come that day when he may want to if he feels it....

Fascinating interview with Neil in 1992, and in the last question he talks about how the young people should get out there to save the planet. Now all these years later this is what is happening with Greta Thunberg and all the Climate Strikers, as well as other teenagers, like Bella Lack, and Dara McAnulty, who are becoming famous as activists and environmentalists. In the US, Jamie Margolin, founded This Is Zero Hour as a teenager and has become an author talking about her activism.

51MontyPython Aye, he did. He was in Reservoir Dogs and The Hateful Eight as well. Seems Tarantino’s got Mr Roth on speed dial.
Ready Honey Bunny .
I thought this was a pretty good interview.
Id pay to be a bug on the wall in that room.
2 heroes
I agree with Neil " the kids have the power to do it and just go berserk " I think about this every time there is a mass shooting at a school, the Government doesn't care and nothing will change unless the kids take control of the situation. the kids should all just stay home from school and not return again until weapons of mass destruction are no longer available . It's the only way to get it done .
Poor woman putting makeup on Neil. Nevertheless never just put makeup on someone especially Neil without asking first. So I don’t blame Neil for reacting to that.
Man Neil is tough to interview. He’s pretty no nonsense and cut to the chase.
Pumpkin is a pretty good interviewer! shame he ended up robbing liquor stores and restaurant just a couple years later...
he litereally looks like hes about to go to work at a union job getting paid 22 an hour lol. working class neil
Union laborers around here get paid 40 an hour. Actual skilled labor, a welder like myself for instance, make anywhere from 60-120 an hour. I get paid better than my masters degree holding brother.
@@harrysachs2274 happy for you for sure $$$
i like the live version of Old Man i think was out of UK , he starts chatting to the audience before starting and he mentions he just bought a farm in California, hes 25
This would have went better if Tim and Neil had had a smoke before hand...forget the notes and written questions, let's smoke and talk. I like both these men, and Neil is keen to talk, but I feel his frustration at points, but the interview get's better as it goes on.
Does anyone else see the Neil young Bill Belichick look a like here?
Tim Roth? Kind of weird he is interviewing him if you ask me.
this is before he became a great actor
beset interview with Neil I've ever seen so off the cuff and he cuts the guys so. much slack...
Conan had on Neil and all they did was talk about chickens. This is better. No talk of chickens.
Tim Roth should stick to acting
I agree. Neil Young was pretty polite, in my opinion.
@@andwil1959 No Neil enjoyed the discussion otherwise it would have been much shorter and less informative. You have it wrong.
Hey give him break..
NO SUCH THING AS A BAD AUDIENCE? ST. LOUIS 1973 (?) NEIL SOLO WITH ACOUSTIC GUITAR WALKED OFF AFTER 20 MINUTES SAYING THE AUDIENCE WAS THE WORST HE'D EVER PLAYED TO. FELT I GOT MY MONEY'S WORTH JUST THE SAME....IT WAS KINDA FUNNY ACTUALLY.
I have to disagree about the crowds. There is such thing as a bad crowd..go to Vancouver, BC. They're stiff hipsters that's don't know how to get down to the music, man. Every concert I've been to in Vancouver!
U to
That's not Tim Roth that's Grant from Feeder 😂 (Ok he looks like him)
I wish that Neil would get in touch with a really good nutritionist who will explain to him that eating a high carbohydrate diet is not going to help him with longevity I heard him speak one night out he eats a lot of carbohydrates for his stamina and I guess it has some value for some people for a small window but eventually it's the start of the end from what I understand about eating high carbs
He specifically said that he eats carbs before performing to give him energy for that night. It makes perfect sense.
Can't figure out which one of them is more stoned.
The contrast between Roth and Young works so well
polar opposites Taurus and Scorpio suns.....good combo
What does Tim ask at 12:41? I dont understand....
He asks about the "hound dog, Old King" which is a song on the Harvest Moon LP. Old King is the name of the dog and the name of the song.
patrick crawford yeah I wish he would enunciate. He's an actor for God sake
Where's Howard Stern when you need him....
Thank God not here. He is awful and cheap. The interview is classy and Neil never suffers fools.Howard can be funny but rarely deep. Always looking at the sleazy hype shit. Let's hate on Yoko, etc etc. He was better when he was younger now he is a conformist sleaze
33:04 Bob Dylan - The Original Thot Patroller
Terrible interview.. mumbling interviewer.. Neil Young not being pretentious, just being his honest self.
This analysis of music is crap.Just listen and enjoy the bloody music.
🌿🌙
i act and at the very beginning the make up artist used the same make up dabber on both neil and tim, NOT COOL !
Anne bollin an a thousand hundred million trillion diasipoora hang on sloppy or u are like a hurricain
Lesley Storey Wasn't Ann Bolin divorced by King Henry Vlll?
Lesley Storey fair well Boleyn WHFC
Painful interview.
Tim Roth should've got the Academy Award for his portrayal of Thade in Planet of the Apes. I'm dead serious - but sci-fi gets no respect...
I totally agree. Great character.
Piece of shit movie.
***** - It wasn't a great movie by any stretch - which makes Roth's amazing performance stand out all the more, and more deserving of accolades, in my view. He fully inhabited his character - and he really sold its "realness" and complexity. We can't ask much more from actors...
Horrible. Neil deserves so, so much better.
I'd love to interview this man. This is painful and disrespectful
I love his music but he wouldn't give the average person the time of day, Bob Dylan would
I've met Neil on the street in Philadelphia, also saw bob dylan, niel stopped and took a picture. Bob blew me off.
straight of the cuff, the interviewer seams insecure in the middle carriage of a speeding cocaine train
Roth seems totally lost. He has no idea what Neil's talking about.
