  • Happy New Year! I hope everyone has had a brilliant festive season. This video is the first in a new series called Braid of the Month, where I will take you through a new braid each month and show you step by step how to turn it into a beautiful collar.
    Measurements and Materials:
Firstly, measure your pet's neck, then add 1.5" on (1" for cat collars or collars made with thinner cord).
This braid requires 1 foot of cord for every 1 inch of collar. Eg: a 10" collar will need 10 feet of cord. For two colours, half this measurement (5 feet of each colour).
Buckles: I usually use 20mm because of Poirot's size. The size of buckle you use will depend on your dog. For small dogs I would recommend ~15mm wide, medium dogs ~20mm, and large dogs ~25mm, but it is entirely dependent on your preference and breed.
Paracord: I use 550 paracord/Type 3. This is about 4mm wide. You can use thinner cord if you want. I recommend thinner cord for small buckles. The internet will guide you through the world of paracord sizes!

Is there a formula to know what length of paracord you need or is it different for every pattern?

Hi! Formulae are always in the description (or there might be a cheat sheet for some videos) but for this particular braid it’s 1 foot of cord for every inch of braid. So if your pet had a 10 inch neck, you’ll need 10 feet of cord.
If you’re using 2 colours then this will be halved and it would be 5 foot per colour

Hi, I get them from paracord.eu which is great if you’re bulk buying or in europe. If you’re elsewhere it would probably be an expensive delivery! You can also get them from other sellers, just avoid ebay/amazon or similar as you need them to be good quality for dogs
