I've watched this at least 20 times and it never gets old. The perfection over such a variety of shots, all strung together, is magical. Thinking back to 2000 when averages were 1.2-1.5 (that range anyway), it is amazing how the game has matured. I realize we're talking about Caudron here, born with table game genius, but even his carom game has elevated spectacularly over the decades. More tournaments in the USA and more paying fans.
As a once semi-serious player I've experienced the groove when you just see the angles perfectly in your mind's eye -- and then almost nothing seems impossible -- from feathering the object ball at table's length so as to create an angle that really isn't there -- to hammering a 7 rail force-follow shot. And, I believe, only a billiards player can appreciate the incredible skills that come in to the fore in those times. Not even golf (my favorite sport) can touch billiards when it comes to finesse, delicacy and creativity. When I was a kid (60 years ago) playing my best, Willie Hoppe had the record at 25; and that stood for years. (I ran 18 a few times.) I honestly believe the balls are truer today than they used to be and that they roll further now. -- But, YES! -- Today the players are better too -- way better than we ever were.
Equipment is better, the cloth, tables, cues, tips, chalk, balls, treatment and cleaning of the tables, ... the list goes on; everything is better. Also, there exists now shots and techniques that just weren't even imagined yet back then. But yes, three-cushion billiards is incomparable to any other sport in terms of difficulty, complication, and I would say esthetics. My "record" is 13, so I am nothing in this sport. But there are times when I do some incredible shot, all watching and myself included get some weird kind of a satisfaction that is impossible to replicate in any other sport, not even a hole-in-one fluke in golf. PS: Would love to see a video of your seven rail force follow shot. Peace.
Very nice comments in here guys ! I would maybe stick Tennis in there as far as control of the ball,…you know….topspin, Stun, soft touches, heavy touches- backspin, drop shots and flicks and trajectory/ behaviour of the ball On a personal level, the thrill and satisfaction of a single one-handed sizzling backhand down the line winner ..equals to the satisfaction of executing a beautiful carambola’s high difficulty shot or trick shot Satisfying to watch and to execute It’s a sport where you can be good at it, but you can also be so creative with it, and that’s another similarity with Tennis 3C billiards is, for me, A mixture of the most traditional and highest form of art on a table and in sport in general , mixed with real futuristic scientific feel. Imo it should be an Olympic sport ! . Bowls is….. Archery is…. Tennis is….. Curling s … Golf is …. Definitely the “Artistic” discipline should be considered and would be fun And more in tune with those other sports. As far as, you know, the 3 tries one gets per shot A lot of similarities there, in fact, 3C billiards is a conglomeration of all the skills on those sports ….and then some !! Anyhow, those other sports I mention …you can just be really good at the technique or have a very good style, but you still only Gotta do what you Gotta do that’s required in the game to achieve the final goal. But 3 cushion Billiards and Tennis ALSO allow you to do so in a standard routine way with different styles, but crucially, using genius and creativity and innate alien vision and touch, and come up with stuff out of this world, crazy and never seen before. Testament and profto this…is the fact that you can execute a shot in many different ways, but also there is a “trick shot” option as well ….again, massive similarities between the two sports And yes, good guess, I play both. ha ha ha ha And my dream is in fact to own a tennis club, with three blue tennis courts, with the clubhouse set in a way that there is three blue IIIc billiards tables right in the middle with bars around and seedings going up to the sides. Sort of semi theatre way / kind of split levels.
That’s so funny I scroll down, and I find this comment, LOL On another comment on mine in here, Since the conversations were all in English, I was going to write that Coudron reminds me of the Scottish Higgins of Snooker, as far as maybe demeanour, experience, old school/classnc mixed with full knowledge and perfection in execution, and also the crazy stuff mixed in as well …if needed,

Correct. His skill is unparalleled. He’s definitely the favored to win every tournament he enters. I wish 3 cushion got the recognition it deserved. It’s a shame to see a tournament being played with so many empty seats. All the 3 cushion organizations need to do a better job at promoting. Back in the states, you can’t even find a 3 cushion table much less, find a tournament. I’m lucky enough to live close to carom cafe in Queens New York. But even that place resembles a mortuary. What a shame!!
The man is a savant. It would be very interesting if you would give us (the viewers of your content/videos) some technical details about the equipment and the venues ...some info about the two players cues, cue lengths, weights, tip diameter, brand name and kind of joint. The balls in play, the tables and the cloth.

The 40 point barrier was the only reason that prevented Le Grande Maitre Caudron from continue and establish its own record. I can almost foresee that last cushion position was feasible for this great player to keep earing both points am history.
Si bien el partido era a 40 carambolas, hubiera sido interesante permitirle a Caudron que siguiera la tacada fuera de competición, por el mero hecho de buscar batir el récord mundial.

Hello there thanks for the sharing!
Is a matter of evolution too. Past player average was lower than today. Only Raymond Ceulemans was ahead of his time..
