    Love mine. I can attest to the range. I average 500km with around town driving and 480km range on highways. Have driven Rotorua to Whangeri on a single charge and arrived with 80Km left in useable range.

      Hi, Gavin mentions there isn't a heat pump, so how do you heat and cool the interior, of the car? Anthony (Northland - SUN 25 FEB 2024, 11.11 a.m.)

      @@anthonydavorenDAVSnDOGSVia a traditional heater and AC unit. Heat pumps are more efficient and use less battery power. However here in NZ its temperate so havnt had any big heating/cooling issues

    The VW is ok, but the pick of the Id SUVs is the Skoda Enyaq, it looks better, expecially the RS Coupe, has a more up market interior, the infotainment system is better with a bigger screen. Skoda builds better VW’s.

    • @NZsarge1
      @NZsarge1 9 месяцев назад

      Yes ironically, I must agree Skoda is getting into the habit of ever so slightly upstaging VW but they’re not the value proposition they’re touted to be in overseas markets

      I liked the front of the enyaq better, but found the rear ugly. I think the enyaq is decked out with a few more smart features too vs the id4 nz models

    There is a very common misconception about the 'Rated' or WLTP consumption. This is the amount of energy that must be put INTO the battery to achieve that 100km of distance, which is around 15% higher than the 'vehicle consumption' that is shown on the dash. Vehicle consumption is how much comes OUT of the battery, not how much you must put in. If you want to compare your car against WLTP you must go to a charger and measure its consumption. Your 16.4 kWh/100km would be around 18.9 kWh/100km WLTP equivalent, significantly above the 16.9 quoted by VW. That said, it is a good figure and am looking forward to seeing same in the West Island.

    I'm thinking about buying one but I cannot decide between RWD and AWD. Renault Scenic E-tech is coming in a few months which might be a really good deal comparing to ID 4

    • @mitchellhandcock1891

      If Renault decided not to bring the Megane e-tech would they still bring the Scenic?

    • @pietwandelaar1743
      @pietwandelaar1743 3 месяца назад

      The 24s have a new, more efficient motor that puts out 282 hp in the RWD. That's almost as good as the previous AWD. The AWD option makes a heavy car even heavier. It makes more sense to go for RWD and save some money.

    Excellent news that we're starting to see EVs with V2G/V2H functionality arriving on the market, beyond the Leaf which has had it for 10 years now. I assume the ID4 has bidirectional charging capability via its CCS so another future decision on which connectivity to move with in terms of an EVSE to feed to and from a car that doubles as a home battery as that scenario moves closer to reality. Just have to wait now for the lines companies and regulatory platform to streamline the implementation of this technology.
    Worth noting too that any EV with bidirectional functionality benefits the owner by the equivalent price of a PowerWall or BYD Box which it essentially renders redundant.

    I bit of a nugget, the ID.5 has a louder wind noise coming from the driver’s A pillar, I noticed this during my test drive. Also, the hatch of the ID.5 has a bigger opening than the 4.
    Then when you’re on a slight incline, the car parking brakes let go of the hold the moment you press on the accelerator which causes the car to move back so careful on those tight incline parallel parking or avoid them at all cost.

    These are not doing well in Europe. They’re just a bit meh and too expensive and inefficient for what you get. That my first generation Kia eNiro drives better is an indication of how far VW has to go. It’s not a Tesla competitor, and compared to Tesla, it’s still got fixed servicing intervals like an ICE car, rather than condition based maintenance like a Tesla. The rest, including mine, have some catching up to do.
    My eNiro has averaged 14.8kwk/100km over 2 years in the UK. Using a big battery to compensate for poor efficiency only compounds the problem.

    What software version did it have? Was it 4.x like the new ID.7 or was it 3.x hopefully a higher 3.x version if it doesn't have 4.x. Sounds like software is a low 3.x series based on that DC fast charge rate as I believe 3.5 gives you 175kW DC. Any word if it has OTA capability although I wonder if they will implement it here in Oceania. V2G - as long as the grid provider is onboard with that but good for the future once the grid providers come out of the dark ages.

    this is the first time I've seen your channel and I really like your review style. You keep it entertaining and don't carry it on too long. I also felt your review of the id4 to be very level. I'm shocked you don't get wireless carplay and Android as we do in North America. I've owned 6 EVs including currently an id4 pro s AWD and it really is an under rated vehicle. It is super comfortable and I like the higher than most ground clearance and standard tow hitch(on AWD in na) and tow rating. It's def the closest to an SUV/CUV out of the current crop of e-CUV's. I definitely prefer this car to the model y I had, but then again I've enjoyed pretty much all my EVs more than my MY. I didnt hate my MY, just found driving it to be a pain with no buttons or switches and it was actually missing a lot of tech like blind spot warning, cross traffic, couldn't select "no highways" as an option the navigation, nobrear wiper...things like that. I'm subscribing.

    • @lautoka63
      @lautoka63 9 месяцев назад +2

      The 20 to 80% measure is a standard one used for electric cars. 20% is advised as the lower battery level, while above 80% the charging rate slows to maintain battery life.

    • @HarmLessSolutionsNZ
      @HarmLessSolutionsNZ 9 месяцев назад

      @@lautoka63 This practice is most relevant for DC charging which tends to put extra pressure on the battery cells and as charging rates are throttled back by the car's battery management system as charge passes 80% it is also good etiquette not to do so on public chargers out of consideration for others waiting.
      When AC charging at home charging to 100% is common to reduce the amount of more expensive public charging and has negligible impact on battery health so long as the battery isn't left at 100% for days on end. Similar to not filling to the top with petrol in hot weather to minimise overflow losses due to expansion I guess. Horses for courses.
