    I was at the Causeway watching the liftoff! My father was one of the lead researchers of SWEA (Solar Wind Electron Analyzer), one of MAVEN's instruments. Pretty amazing!!! Hope everything goes perfectly.

    It still amazes me how we are able to send spacecrafts from our spinning planet to other planets!!! The only negative aspect is that 10 month period from launch to the orbit insertion. The rest is pure beauty and makes us all dream. Congratulations!

    In the future, does anyone know where I can see live NASA launches without advertisements popping up continually? I watched this launch live at IScienceTimes (International Science Times) but they had ads popping up every few minutes that was extremely annoying. I just want to watch live launches in High Definition without ads. IScienceTimes for some reason put ads on their site and they could not be stopped without video and audio running every few minutes.

    Just wondering if some one can answer me this: Why did the Ascent Commentator say the Rocket was travelling at 1,000 mph yet moments before it reaches over 2,000 he says it is passing through the sound barrier, but isn't the Speed of sound in mph 768mph? that would means it already passed it ages ago @1:02 which is before @1:27 which is when he says it is passing through the sound barrier.

      At sea level yes. - Depends on the air pressure. Not much air at that altitude.

    What does it mean when they "go into max Q"? Anyways, great launch, exited for the whole mission!

    • @sillassieI
      @sillassieI 10 лет назад

      I think its "mac 2" meaning twice the speed of sound.

    • @patrick42h
      @patrick42h 10 лет назад +1

      Max Q refers to the moment when the aerodynamic stress on the rocket is at its greatest. It builds as the rocket accelerates through the lowest part of the atmosphere and then goes down as the air thins out at higher altitude.

    • @joeyreynolds998
      @joeyreynolds998 8 лет назад

      +sillassieI no its Max Q

  • @Azivegu
    @Azivegu 10 лет назад

  • @whatdoctor
    @whatdoctor 10 лет назад +1

    We already know that the mass of Mars is about 10% of Earth's. This is why its atmosphere bubbled away. So what is this mission supposed to achieve?

    • @andimason3370
      @andimason3370 10 лет назад

      The atmosphere was striped away by solar wind due to the lack of a protective magnetic field and volcanic activity. The purpose of the mission is to try and figure out what it was like before this happened. I agree that it is perhaps a misuse of money in the current economic climate but the mission goals are quite clearly stated so I cannot moan at them

    • @aznjoez
      @aznjoez 10 лет назад

      Because once you leave the magnetic field protecting Earth, everything living will die eventually from the radiation and rays from the Sun. Mars also does not have a magnetic field like Earth's. Currently, if a human or anything else living leaves this field they will die, eventually. NASA needs to develop a technology to protect humans against this immense radiation. Unless you know of the technology or someone who does then they will continue to be "pissing about with satellites".

    atlas V uses a rd-180 engine designed and build in russia. Uses a staged combustion cycle with an oxygen-rich preburner, witch was believed to be impossible by us engineers. More or less the same design as the famous NK-33
    Sad that us has to hitch hike ride from russia to the IST and uses rocked engines built in russia since it is better than us designs.
