As a young child, I used to watch this show, quite to my mother's dismay, but since she would still allow me to do so, I did not care; amongst other things, I should especially enjoy the story, the quality of acting and KITT's witty lines.

Woohoo! Great theme! I loved being there for the WHOLE show because I wanted to hear the theme, too! The car was so cool. Michael Knight, what a great name for a modern knight. And Kitt? Knight's 8-cylinder horse power faithful steed (with a dry sense of humor and 100% loyalty to Michael). I was only in high school, but this now 57-year old lady liked his knightly ways, brown curly hair, blue eyes, and deep voice. He was a 'man's man' in the show.
Damn, I don't remember much of these TV show (I was very young back then), but this music I can't forget. It is true masterpiece, that once I heard, I could not forget. Funny thing, I knew this opening theme very well, but for a long time I did not know title of the TV show for what it was composed (I come from Poland, and I as child I did not know English back then).
I was 10 when the promo/teaser for the show aired. It hit hard. Just a mysterious black car with a red eye flying across the desert at sunset. Theme pulsing. The hairs all over my body stood straight up. I froze. Oh, hell, yes! Still fresh.
What's so strange about this song is that I have heard it on and off for years and years and it's one of those strange songs that I knew subconsciously but could never pinpoint to where it was from until now!

Amen. Cars all look very similar to each other now. Angry and aggressive style headlights are everywhere and on everything. I was born a decade earlier than you. When I got my license at 16 I could tell the make and model of a car coming toward me at night from a quarter mile away just by the shape of their headlights. Especially a crown vic. Now, any set of headlights could be the cops.
By the way Knight Rider Fans. Knight Rider is on Starz Classic channel starts at 710pm no commercials! On the 3rd Season now. Set your video recorders! Awesome! Now that I watch it after 30 years I enjoy the episodes even more so nowadays than before.

@@angelrider1602 He is a 3rd generation Pontiac firebird trans am. He has modified front bumper, extra fog laps, and a scanner light between the opening of the hood and the top of the bumper. On the bottom he has a skid plate from the back of the car to the front, including camera mounting points for in air "Turbo Boost" shots. He has a stock trans am engine with a different air cleaner. The interior is filled with non-working buttons that light up, TV screens, digital read out gauges and an odd steering wheel, that you can only hold one way. The taillights are blacked out to give the rear of the car a more aggressive look. There were presumably 20 cars made for the show, only 5 survived.

Kind of sad to think about. some of them were wrecked when kit got destroyed during a few episodes, and the bulk of them broke during turbo boost scenes. They would replace the panels on these ruined cars and jump them over and over, to conserve cars unlike the dukes of hazard, that wrecked a car almost every episode.
