I notice you mentioned Airy giving the less human lifelike conciousness, but the thing is Airy didnt give them conciousness. The characters from the human world mention that they were previously concious and they hide their sentience from humans, one is even confused to why Soda Bottle has a job because "he would get caught"
Absolutely amazing video, but a few things. 1: You got wrong the fact that airy just gave them consciousness. It is revealed that they do have it, they just don't show it so they won't scare the humans. 2: The reason the show focuses on the main 5 is because I personally think the series was designed to be about them, but with characters with slight other purposes. 3: The reason the 2nd flow of new characters is all bland and personality-less is because as I said before, they are almost always in sentient form, meaning they have no time to develop their personalities, just being simple objects in a simple world. Not interacting with anyone, meaning they don't do anything important that defines them. However, I did see yogurt cup getting at least a little development at the end. 4: I think that the show is meant to be 2 things: 1st, A mock-memoir of real object shows, airy giving the objects names based off of their object because "It makes things easier", simply named buildings, even late release times, perfectly imitating other shows. 2nd, it was meant to give a new view into object shows. If you think about it, a large amount of the characters in different shows are just like "Ok, this is happening, I guess I'm playing a game" when real people or people with actual feelings would most likely want to leave. It puts such a new perspective into object shows, showing how dark they would be if they were real.
While ONE is my favorite completed object show, I agree with what you have to say here. And I got a few things to add here. A big disappointment near the beginning of the show is Taylor getting eliminated. Being one of the first group, it feels like they missed out on character interactions and development by not eliminating one of the second group. There could of been a serious clash of interest between her and others by her willingness to subject herself to Airy's game. And a big reason, maybe that only she saw, that leads her to want to go home (in the show it's not explained why she suddenly 180s her perspective). Abstracty himself, was a character that could of been as big as Stone if used more, but was eliminated quite quickly. To be fair, there is a good reason for Airy eliminating them so quickly, but pushing that a few episodes down would of been a good decision. As Abstracty themselves, even to the characters in the show, seemed to radiate as much uncanny energy as Airy himself. And lastly, while it's theorized that ONE stands for Only Nine Episodes, I definitely think they should of lengthened the amount of episodes Airy disappeared in, in order to show off the development between Liam and the second/third groups. Would of made ONE 9's moment of Liam getting eliminated much more impactful. All being said, nothing is perfect and it's a great show, but I love talking about my interests so that those interests grow!
@@johark BUT they literally do though, and anyway Airy would have probably hidden that acronym and not said it, but in episode 1 airy was gonna way what the acronym was before he was cut off by sodabottle
For me, I like the choppiness of the animation. It reminds me of those stop-motion videos and the fact that they're objects, makes their movements more realistic.
I feel like we all forget that the new characters aside from stone, Abstracty and folder, are literally everyday objects. they don't have any character traits because they have nothing. No backstory they are just objects
I have one major criticism about this video and It's your point about "not using the minor contestants and focusing on the major ones." I feel the show is fully aware about the 2nd and 3rd groups being less important and the show does put It's main focus on the first 5. Reminder that episode 6 only ever showed one team (and one extra for like half a second) aswell as alot of the episodes keeping It's use of the side characters to a minimum. To me the shows sparing use of It's side characters is one of It's best attributes and I feel like there's something one of us isn't seeing. (Though I do agree with some of your other points and I don't want this to seem like I'm claiming your opinion isn't valid.)
That’s a good point, I still think the extra groups were given too much screen time, though. I guess I just grow really impatient when they come onscreen since they do very little for the plot. So even with the relatively little screen time they were given, it was still enough to really bug me. I totally get what you mean, though! Thanks for pointing that out!
@@crystalcritique Thanks for the response. I can agree that they weren't the most developed so I'm hoping they get more focus in season 2 (which I assume they will since only 2 of the original 6 are left.)
The only exception for the other groups having no focus is Stone (who is from Group 3), he lasted from episode 3 to episode 4. They basically give info to both the viewers and the shows objects.
I think that one, on many levels, is a statement about object shows in general. That's why it breaks so many traditions, that's why many of the new characters seem somewhat lifeless (a complaint MANY object shows get), that's why they're objects at all, and that's why it's small details like upload schedule (another complaint on object shows), lazy names, and more are put in. I should probably point out circle is a reference to BFC by cheesy. You really only get to understand the character by watching through BFC. I think the whole "why are they objects it ruins the world" thing is something I definitely disagree with. Without them being objects the taboo rules, details, and jokes just wouldn't work. I do understand the critiques and really like the video, but I can defend it a bit. ( I know I come off as VERY hateful in this comment but I should say I agree with a lot of this video and agree that ONE could be better. It still is my favorite though lmao)
I feel like the newer contestants bland personality could be due to the fact they weren't able to develop any, their consciousness was kept to a secret but I mean of that were the case I wish they would have went with some character development with them finding out who they are. Another thing on your point about them being objects. Their are many object shows that branch from the fame of bfdi (one of the first object shows) and created a fandom around it. I feel like One is just putting realism to it. That what makes it so interesting to me. It kind off pokes fun of some of the things that happen in regular object shows like dying which is usually treated as a normal in object shows, another is how they cut off Magazine words while she was about to say something important which is a running gag but is treated seriously in One (although I would also love to see your idea with humans being transformed into objects and compete, that would be very interesting to see) Still I respect your opinions on the show
Something that did bother was how the newer contestants could communicate and use their body limbs easily If they were never able to do that with the humans watching them then how the hell did they learn to do that so easily? Its shown that skills are developed in objects seeing as the tomato acted like a baby and Magazine went to school to learn things so how did they learn?
If their was more episodes, the personality could’ve been improved. And it could’ve been better. Also, I think they should have a personality for the areas where they were. Tray is around children, that would allow her to develop childish personality. Or Planefood being scared of death and being forgotten as he is always replaced after he is eaten.
@@cyberyoutabe5995 AhHa- I totally forgot bout this show,,,, But yeah, what you said is a cool concept (I still wish for an arc. About them becoming fully fledged individuals...) I haven't watched this show in so long... I should check back on this...
one thing i'd like to point out is that i'm pretty sure that the objects from the human dimension have always had consciousness, but it's something they never show to the humans. when whippy creamy and soda bottle were talking in ep 2, whippy creamy mentions how theyre confused that soda bottle has never been "caught" having a human job. backpack also asks subway seat "you're forced to keep your sentience a complete secret to them??" not long after. your videos are always very nice to watch tho, you're not afraid to list off any kind of flaws a show may have and you never sugarcoat things. i hope to see more :]
i saw you really sticked with the fact that the new characters are not as interensting as the main 5, i think that their personality fits well, they have been normal objects until the day they joined the show after all, it wouldnt make sense if they had a personality, also they add a lot of contrast, you can see how different characters react to the same situation, also im enjoying the video, its very good
I definitely see what you mean by that. My argument was more on how this doesn’t make sense for the show since focusing on them just seems to waste time instead of forwarding the plot like most the main 5 characters did. I also stated that using more characters that are disturbing and lifeless like abstracty and folder would have worked in the show’s favor more than the ones we ended up with.
@@crystalcritique Although, one of the main reasons I like ONE is because those characters have those personalities. I liked seeing objects that once had no personality grow and learn from the first batch. That’s why I (please don’t get too mad chat) personally disagree with your video. It looks like you just expected something completely different from what ONE is about.
I find Abstracty and Stone very mysterious, but first I want to talk about Stone. Stone knows everything that has, is, and will have happened in the entire universe. Because Stone didn't have a mouth, it was tougher for them to communicate and tell the other objects what will happen. Because Stone can predict the future, notice that he never helped anyone escape, meaning that there is absolutely no way out of the plain no matter what. My favorite thing about Stone is that they added a lot to the lore. In episode 4, Stone writes down the truth about the votes on the sticky notes because they knew they were going to be eliminated. That explains why they were very active within two episodes. Abstracty was shapeshifting randomly in the beginning of episode 4. Before, we only saw it shapeshift into other characters and impersonate them. But here it was shapeshifting into a jumbled mess. You can see that one of the triangles is a large brownish one. I feel it's either Airy, the tree from the challenge, or maybe the whole thing being something that's from Abstracty's world.
I do think there is a benefit to having more contestants, since there is only one object eliminated per episode, it gives the characters a bit more time to develop. However, you need to at least give these characters some fun personalities, or other characteristics to bounce off other characters or better yet make them play a role into other characters development or the story, pretty much the only new contestant to do that is stone. It’s true that the show would only last 6 episodes without them, but I would rather have 6 episodes with interesting characters with there own problems, rather than 128 episodes that have boring characters that receive way too much screen time, with some interesting ones sprinkled in. (“Quality over Quantity” basically)
I think I like how the new characters don’t really have personalities because they’ve been “objects” their whole life so they have more bland personalities because they’ve never gotten a chance to live a life. And i honestly don’t mind them being objects. I think they’re cute and they make for a kind of more interesting world
My main qualms with ONE are with Abstracty and Taylor Taylor was easily the least explored character of the main 6, even behind the baby tomato (Charlie?). The only background I remember her having is her name, no occupation, no location, nothing, she deserved so much better. I understand why Abstracty was eliminated so quickly, but even they just felt like ominous for the sake of it, and while it was effective, they could have been better developed IMO. With ONE episode left, I'd like to think that they would fix this, but my hopes are low Update: they did not
After rewatching the series, I will say that Whippy Creamy does have a distinct personality, he just gets literally no focus so it’s hard to tell. I also wanted to correct a flaw in the video, the objects from batch two always had consciousness. They just couldn’t be themselves in the presence of humans.
The thing with the second grooup, there's a reason they're not fully formed personalities. They never had the chance to gain one. At first they're basically just emotionless nothings and then by the end of Episode 8 they have fully fledged personalities because they've had time to grow and learn what to feel, when, and why. The reason why the others do is because they're living real lives. The two other groups don't have much personality because they have nobody to learn a personality with. If you live a life away from everybody, you never learn how to feel things.
I feel like the world where everything is normal but people are objects is simply done that way because of animation the wonky humans that do appear in the show just wouldn't work well for the scenes in that world
nobody addresses these issues because they aren't ACTUAL ISSUES! edit: opinions are subjective, and someone saying they don't like one doesn't mean I have to defend it actually seeing as you mean they get to much screen time, rather then "they're stupid and shouldn't exist" makes alot more sense. also the characters being objects with it taking itself so seriously, even though that makes no sense is something I think people who aren't in the OSC would think that about one, and people in the OSC (atleast MOST of them)
i think the reason these characters are sentient objects of a wide variety living these lives is because Isaac wanted to make the characters more diverse/distinct. In the world of ONE, no type of object is considered superior or bullied for what they are, and no type of object is considered unconventional.
That’s why the characters being objects made no sense. Making the characters objects is a wacky choice, but the rest of the show contrasts that wackiness by being completely serious. It’s a completely unnecessary choice that could have been easily avoided by just making the characters humans.
@@crystalcritique Right but Cheesy probably wanted to illutrate a world of where objects are the predominant species and combine them with a world where humans are If it was all humans, Mappy wouldn't fly off of the stake, Scenty wouldn't shatter from falling e.t.c.
@@flatbreadjk those really aren’t pivotal plot points. The story isn’t ever actually helped by the fact that everyone is an object. They’re just little details that could have just been left out of the story and it would have been roughly the same
@@crystalcritique I like to think that if they were humans, the show would have made more sense to be unfair Otherwise Cheesy broke the mold of object shows with this show
What if they all are objects to show their personality? For example - Backpack is a character that takes a lot of emotion and thoughts into himself, he keeps everything as a secret to not burden any other people around him - Soda bottle is easy going, light, and gets angry very easily. Hence the 'Soda' in his code name
Each episode is about 5-7 minutes long, I think they did a good job putting as much content into an episode as much as possible. They can’t just focus in on the main characters 24/7, then the other characters would become irrelevant.
While that’s definitely true, I don’t think the side characters ever needed to be relevant in the first place since they’re barely ever relevant to the story. Giving side characters pointless screen time doesn’t make them relevant.
True. Like I said in the video, it would have been much better for the story if more of the characters were lifeless or creepy like Folder and Abstracty. That would have strengthened the show’s eerie atmosphere and it would have allowed the side characters to have taken less of a focus.
It is quite sad to think about what we could have had from Bassy. What makes it even worse, though, is that even if Cheesy didn’t eliminate her and found a way to give her more screen time, he simply couldn’t because bassy’s voice actor decided to quit.
2 questions: 1. Do you have any suggestions for an object show similar to ONE that has better execution? 2. What you rank ONE overall out of 10? (i.e. 5/10, 7/10) This was a very thorough analysis and despite my immense liking of the show I agree with almost all of your points
Good questions! 1. I haven’t watched many object shows so I can’t think of anything that you probably haven’t watched. Plus, ONE is a very unique show. But Inanimate insanity made great use out of almost all of the show’s characters once episode 11 came out. I also think it’s just an amazing object show in general. 2. I’d give it around a 7.8/10
If I had to rate it I would say for story I think I give it a whopping 10/10. For the animation and personality of the characters I would rate it 7/10.
@@crystalcritique (just gonna point out that ii2 has had at points most of the issues you pointed out in this review, i love it but i just kinda think it's funny lol)
While you definitely made some good points I feel that you missed some nuance because you don't really have prior experience with object shows (I assume). Like how you mentioned them being object being pointless. Because to me it felt like one of the points of the show was to ask the question "think about the implications" when it comes to object shows. The implications like being brought back to life and leaving home. You can also see this in the jokes like the y names one and moments like scentys shattering and soda not being able to dive down to rescue backpack. To me it seems based of the "implications" premise and these moments that next season they'll be leaning into the horror of them being objects much more but they just had to lay the groundwork. Although It isn't the greatest that something requires you to have prior experience to enjoy it. I believe its important to have some knowledge of of object shows to truly critique it.
grrr im angry you need more subs ur vids are too good for 400, im actually mad great video as always, i never thought about the episode 2-3 objects that way
and then the creators had the audacity to make the ending bad where everyone is trapped on the plane forever, Liam is trapped in airys world with no way back home, no way to talk with texty, and no way to figure out how work the computer to save and talk to his friends. and airy is dead so airy cant help Liam get his friends back. truly a depressing but great series
Nice video! ONE definitely has its flaws but it's still an enjoyable show! I feel like the additional contestants were put there to parody common tropes you'd find in shows (on second thought the entire show may be a parody) so in my defense, their addition was justified. However, I agree with you when you say they're _too_ lifelike, and that they had wasted potential and could've been used as a contrast between what is logical (the original 5) and the illogical (the additions). This aforementioned contrast between logical vs illogical must have been the reason behind making the original 5 contestants as objects instead of humans in their own humanized world. Making them humans in the first place would have undermined the logical vs. illogical contrast this show tries so hard to construct, so I feel like it was for the better that they weren't human. After all, this show wants to make us question the morality of object shows and their fundamentally dark undertones, situated in worlds where if you substituted objects for humans the show would be different. It's all about how the characters feel about this, and humanizing the characters is the logical lens to this illogical facade. tl;dr: ONE is a great yet flawed show, it's trying to make us question the morality of obj shows, and this video was well written.
I can see what you're getting at with the universe that the first group of characters is from and how it is very limited seeing as it is similar to the human world with the only difference being that the inhabitants are all objects, and why the characters couldn't just originally be humans turned into objects. But you base this idea off of Airy giving sentience to the inanimate objects from, what seems like our universe. Except Airy actually... doesn't give them sentience. They were already sentient objects back in the human world, and in Episode 2, Subway Seat explains that they have to keep their sentience a complete secret to the humans because it scares them. But I do fully agree on how a lot of the later characters don't have any personality or flare to them, they're just there to fill up spots and so we can have more contestants to eliminate that isn't the first group of 5. Not to mention this move doesn't even make any sense seeing as none of the contestants from the second group actually get eliminated in the show. I do hope they play a bigger role in the next season of ONE, and maybe these problems will be fixed, who knows.
That’s a good point, I admittedly didn’t pay much attention to the exposition about the newbie contestants, so that’s on me. Thanks for telling me this! I’m glad the rest of the video made more solid points, though. Thank you telling me this!
I didn't like this video when it came out, and even though i disagree with some of your points, i realised a tiny bit ago how much this video helped me. My current big project is called Symbol Show, it's a bit like ONE in a few ways. It includes contestants who live in a normal world who are unwillingly in a competition because of a serial killer maniac. (i am not going to spoil more than that lol, it's a secret :P) It started as a story i was making out of my entries for a camp called BFTGF (it was really fun) but I decided that it would be better if i made it its own show. But it had a lot of the worst of ONE's issues, and this video helped me improve it a lot. The camp entries' story is really bad. And the show was still bad in September when I made a trailer (the trailer was good, but everything else I had planned? not so much.) This critique really helped me with my own show, I tried to avoid the issues listed in it which really helped me sort through my ideas. Thank you :)
I seriously love to see my work influencing future works. It’s incredibly motivating to know that anyone like you has been improving because of something I made. I hope you know that your improvement is why I do what I do. I seriously appreciate you.
@@crystalcritique thank you so much!!! this video actually improved my work 2 times I guess, because I have been helping one of my friends turn his show which was a copy of ONE into something original.
The show needs to be finished before you should do a review. One is a long played out show. A lot more characters will probably have a lot more relevance in the future just like texty. Season 1 is probably just setting the stage for the future.
I think that Bass and Contact lens were both wasted potential. Bass seemed to have a close bond with her human and would obviously miss her now that she’s in this drastically different world, while Contact lens literally saw life through to eyes of a business man. Maybe having Bass’s character more somber and Contact lens as a voice of reason would have been more fitting than, whatever their characters are supposed to be.
I want a prequel to ONE as it was revealed that we ARE seeing season two. I want to see ZERO as a continuation of what happened to the previous season’s competitors
The biggest fault when discussing ONE is thinking that it’s a competition show. The competition is the excuse to rip these people out of their lives and into a weird prison run by an insane god. It’s a deconstruction of object shows in general and an exploration of existence and consciousness that works on multiple levels. Ragging on ONE for having objects as characters in a world with objects as objects misses the point in a big way.
Our world is the way it is because we humans based off literally everything we have created (such as our jobs, our architecture, our everyday lives, etc…) off of how we function. Backpacks were created because humans have arms and shoulders to put the arm straps around. Computers have keyboards because they were built to complement human hands so we can type easily. We have created backpacks and computers because they complement the way humans are. The objects in ONE don’t have shoulders, the just have thin stick arms. The keyboards in ONE don’t complement their tiny stick hands. Those objects seem to only exist because the human world has them, so I guess the object would should too. But that doesn’t make sense for a show that wants to take itself fully seriously like ONE. Those objects wouldn’t realistically exist if everyone in the world were objects.
I personally don’t have an issue with the problems you mentioned, but thanks for introducing me to this show (I made sure to watch it before even taking a peek at this review, so I wouldn’t get spoiled). Anyways due to the way humans are drawn here, I kinda prefer they don’t have a big role...
A wish I have for season two is that we get more character development for the others. I think they have a lot of potential, and it would be nice to be explored. I’m honestly really curious about texty, but I doubt they’ll get screen time. anyway I like all the guys and they should be explored more
Well, I think the second batch is weird because they have no personality as they existed without personality they were objects they didn’t do anything idk maybe that’s me
number: *the lowest cardinal number; half of two; 1.* "there's only room for one person" pronoun: 1. *referring to a person or thing previously mentioned or easily identified.* "her mood changed from one of moroseness to one of joy" 2. *a person of a specified kind.* "you're the one who ruined her life'' 3. *hfjone* "hey guys im holding you all hostage to participate in my show called one.''
one interesting thing from season two is that texty isn't from the human world - they're from the same world as the original 6, and that means that the inanimate objects "toy story" rule is just a universal constant which just seems hilarious to me
Now i really wanna see an object show that has like around 16 humans teleported into an object show and they all become objects, it would be cool to see them desperately trying to return to their world and not liking/understanding their new object bodies, seeing humans that have been turned into objects and are forced to do a competition in order to return home would be cool, and if they're eliminated they're locked inside a metal box cause I always thought locking someone inside a box like BFDIA, and BFDI does is just dark and pretty much torture but everyone sees it as funny, so seeing humans humans are objects be eliminated and forced to stay inside a locked box forever would be dark, and make them even more desperate to win no matter if they lose their morals.
I wanted to point out that the personalities of the new characters are supposed to be different from the first group. The original group is supposed to differ from normal Object Shows and have a group that isn't all happy and friendly. The second group was made to make fun of normal Object Shows and have people that were already friends and super friendly join. The third group was added to make the show feel different, as most Object Shows have objects, not text boxes or rocks or abstract paintings. The third group was also for fun easter eggs and foreshadowing. I heard this from someone in a comment section and they said it was from a Q&A where the creator mentioned it.
yeah, even though be came from a world where everyone was the same and really empty, its really cool to see how he's grown. (watch battle for circle for context)
I dont get why you hated the fact that the world thats like earth but with objects, if anything I love the juxtaposition of such a real world with object characters. Its almost like animated movies with animals, its a human world with non human characters.
The reason the 2nd batch of characters are lifeless are because they are in a word where they have to keep their life secret so they never really… interact
About the part around 9:30 - I thought that scene was pretty good actually. By this time, everyone's been together for a couple months. Even the newer characters. You'd think they'd be close - but they're not. The rest of the characters move into frame, and watch Liam from some distance away. Then, some time later. Amelia steps into frame, right next to Liam. To me, this scenes shows just how different the first batches are from the second and third. No matter how long they've been together, Liam and Amelia will always be closer to each other than the other characters.
I think the only reason why people are praising this show cuz it's just so much more different than any other object show. It's like a breath of fresh air where most don't even care if there's some bad stuff in that air.
I agree with how some characters don’t add much for the show, and are pretty much place holders (not entirely but sometimes they are just there for no reason). But I don’t agree with the Human-like Objects one. (Reason 1)You said Airy could transport conscious, but like Dongo Jangle stated, they had their conscious hidden. (Reason 2) some parts of the object show couldn’t be made without them being objects, since (Reason 1) is valid. For example, Abstracty’s abilities, Folder’s AI-like s behavior, Subway Seat not having limbs, Magazine being unraveled by the air, Etc. That said, this show isn’t perfect and needs improvement here and there, and I am not angry with you for how you dislike things I like. I agree with most of your statements, and you’re (mostly) accurate and canon with your videos. But, mostly, thank you for putting your time to make a video discussing one of my favorite object shows: ONE. (Also, sorry that I’m really late, season two of one is out already [posted after EPISODE 16]
You do have a point with how so much in the main 5’s world is the same as ours, but alternate universes can be like that. It’s like a science experiment with only one variable. And it’s a bonus to how disturbing it really is.
ONE is really my favorite show due to how deep it goes, I also love the animation and art style! My name is Liam just like Backpack (Liam) and sometimes I connect with backpack and sometimes think I’m just connected with him becuase I have some of the feelings that Backpack has. Overall a 10/10 show.
I think the reason that not much character was given to anyone past the main five is that a good majority of said main five are now out of the game, and there is a season 2 planned. Considering we don't follow much of what happens to those who are eliminated, save for a few after credits scenes and the last episode, the new characters are going to fill the void left by the old ones while we watch the game unfold. Personally, I think this show has very very good character writing. While we don't know a lot about the later contestants, I think that makes them feel real. You don't psychoanalyze someone you're put into a group project with, you just judge what you can of their character through their actions and make a slideshow together. Learning of pasts is something you save for protagonists, and now with a majority of the protagonists out of there, new ones will have to take their place. One thing I felt you didn't touch on enough is the underlying sense of mystery the entire show has. Why Stone wanted certain groups to survive a challenge, who Liam saw in the afterlife, what happened to airy, what the whole point of the plug is, why the grass points at the sun, what the numbers mean. It gives you just enough of a thread that its easy to craft a million theories, but not enough to definitively say for certain what's happening, which is a perfect recipe for having satisfying "oh, that's what that was about!" moments as the plot progresses. It feels like a lot of care was put into presenting just enough info to really keep that mystery going.
I don't really get why you're so annoyed by these 2 "problems". It seems you're just being really nitpicky on something that doesn't matter at all. People like ONE because of it's balance of humour and serious stuff. As the series progressed, it got more serious. This is also my main problem with the OSC, people overanalyze characters so much to the point where "if they don't do anything related to the story, the show is ruined!!!" Why is this even a problem in your eyes? The 12 other contestants add something to the show, not ruin it. It's hard to make more jokes and keep viewers engaged when you have like 2 people on episode 5. Sure, the point of the 12 other contestants is definitely filler, but THAT'S THE POINT. And it's not like they just do nothing, they have personalities. I know your argument said you can't describe their personality, but again, why is that a problem? At least they actually HAVE a personality, it adds something to the show, and it allows viewers to take a break from the serious stuff and look at the others for once. I just couldn't take this video seriously especially in the second half when it honestly just felt like you were pointing out random things that really don't matter for the sake of a longer video. About the 2nd point now, and.. really? "We wouldn't have any of these problems if it was just a human world with humans". Firstly, have you seen the human design? It shows a lot more personality when the characters are objects, besides, I know I've said this many times already, but *why is this a problem*. When you said Airy can put a consciousness in the inanimate objects, that isn't true. When the second batch of characters were introduced in Episode 2, Bassy says they can just do it at any time, so that's not in Airy's control. It's kind of dumb having to explain again that it not being humans isn't a problem, especially since your point about it "not taking itself seriously" literally contradicts itself since, you know, *its an object show*. This review has points, but it's just all nitpicky. I can't understand what your problem is with the show when all your points have no actual point to them, especially since the show is already atmospheric and amazing, just like you said. If there's no ACTUAL problem to fix, then why try to fix it? Besides, it's an object show. OSO also has objects living actual lives in a human-like world, and that's just cartoon logic, not some grand mystery that needs to be solved immediately. You spent more time focusing on such a minor detail than the actual lore of the show. Season 2 will most likely explain everything here and more. Sorry for the long review of the review, but this honestly made no sense.
The points I make in this video are admittedly subjective. I understand that the problems I have with this show aren't a big deal to many others, but they are legitimately problematic for me. The reason why I wasn't able to describe the newer contestant's personalities was because they don't really HAVE any personalities. Some of them have little archetypes, but all in all, they're very forgettable. I can't name a single character that wasn't the main five that had any interesting moments in the show besides some comic relief. I don't think they contributed anything meaningful to the show other than providing filler that mostly just wasted time. I would have rather that had filler that was spent with the main five because I was actually interested in seeing them interact more. I never found the the other 12 to be very interesting besides Stone, Abstracty, and maybe Folder. Other than that, the other 12 contestants were not interesting to me and watching them was not nearly as engaging as the main five. My second point is definitely more unpopular, but I still stand by it. I definitely think the human designs look pretty bad, but I would have rather had bad looking humans instead of a weird, nonsensical object/human world that makes no sense. The object/human world that the main five live in makes no sense because literally EVERYTHING in that world is EXACTLY like Earth, except for the fact that everyone's an object. What's the point in making their world so similar to Earth when everyone's an object for seemingly no reason? I get that it's an "object show" but that argument doesn't hold any weight because when you think about it, this show never even NEEDED to be an object show in the first place. Again, the humans would have looked ugly, but I would have preferred an ugly looking show over a world that makes no sense. I'm okay with cartoony worlds that make no sense, but ONE grounds its world in a completely realistic setting. So why make everyone an object if the world is completely realistic to Earth? That just destroys the world building.
@@crystalcritique Alright I guess that makes more sense, was just leaving my opinions. I personally think none of this really matters and it's a great show regardless, but I can't stop you from thinking that I guess. One thing though is that I'm pretty sure if it was just the main 5, it would be really boring, especially since other characters are kinda essential to making an engaging show, but again, your opinion.
I feel like the most important characters are liam/backpack, bryce/soda bottle, airy, amelia/scenty, stone, and texty. The entire show is mostly about liam, bryce helped liam do most of the things, airy was well, the host, and also is one of the characters that that were the reason the show ended, amelia was the reason liam got home, stone is also why liam found airy and one of the characters that were the reason the show ended, and texty was with bryce and liam on their mission to stop airy the entire way.
I feel like your theory of "he gave conciousness to group 2" is just wrong, they literally had a conversation where they said "why dont you pop into your normal form on average?" "It scares the humans"
Why the second batch of objects are not really with character is well maybe not intentional but also they come from a world where they are just objects hiding from humans as objects. The third batch doesn't really have much backstory except circle with a mole
My favorite joke by far in ONE has got to be when folder goes back home and immediately dies.
It’s dark but the mic quality and animation is hilarious
"That was literally so cool guys"
"Let's dance"

saddest death in anime history
I notice you mentioned Airy giving the less human lifelike conciousness, but the thing is Airy didnt give them conciousness. The characters from the human world mention that they were previously concious and they hide their sentience from humans, one is even confused to why Soda Bottle has a job because "he would get caught"
Yeah, I admittedly didn’t pay much attention to the exposition about the newbie contestants and their consciousness. Lots of people saw that XD

4: I think that the show is meant to be 2 things:
1st, A mock-memoir of real object shows, airy giving the objects names based off of their object because "It makes things easier", simply named buildings, even late release times, perfectly imitating other shows.
So 1. Is kinda like toy story

@@Coreyyyyyyyyy EXACTLY like toy story lul

i actually love how he just gets into it without a 3 minute intro

I have one major criticism about this video and It's your point about "not using the minor contestants and focusing on the major ones."
I feel the show is fully aware about the 2nd and 3rd groups being less important and the show does put It's main focus on the first 5.
Wouldn't be the first 6?
The only exception for the other groups having no focus is Stone (who is from Group 3), he lasted from episode 3 to episode 4. They basically give info to both the viewers and the shows objects.
You mean main 6
I completely agree, especially about the fact that the objects dont need to be humans to be serious, realistic characters
It kind off pokes fun of some of the things that happen in regular object shows like dying which is usually treated as a normal in object shows, another is how they cut off Magazine words while she was about to say something important which is a running gag but is treated seriously in One (although I would also love to see your idea with humans being transformed into objects and compete, that would be very interesting to see)
Still I respect your opinions on the show
Something that did bother was how the newer contestants could communicate and use their body limbs easily
If they were never able to do that with the humans watching them then how the hell did they learn to do that so easily? Its shown that skills are developed in objects seeing as the tomato acted like a baby and Magazine went to school to learn things so how did they learn?
If their was more episodes, the personality could’ve been improved. And it could’ve been better. Also, I think they should have a personality for the areas where they were. Tray is around children, that would allow her to develop childish personality. Or Planefood being scared of death and being forgotten as he is always replaced after he is eaten.

one thing i'd like to point out is that i'm pretty sure that the objects from the human dimension have always had consciousness, but it's something they never show to the humans. when whippy creamy and soda bottle were talking in ep 2, whippy creamy mentions how theyre confused that soda bottle has never been "caught" having a human job. backpack also asks subway seat "you're forced to keep your sentience a complete secret to them??" not long after.

For Batch 2, the contestants weren't given consciousness, they had to hide their sentience.

i saw you really sticked with the fact that the new characters are not as interensting as the main 5, i think that their personality fits well, they have been normal objects until the day they joined the show after all, it wouldnt make sense if they had a personality, also they add a lot of contrast, you can see how different characters react to the same situation, also im enjoying the video, its very good
I definitely see what you mean by that.
@@crystalcritique I also see what you mean by "the that"
@@crystalcritique Although, one of the main reasons I like ONE is because those characters have those personalities. I liked seeing objects that once had no personality grow and learn from the first batch. That’s why I (please don’t get too mad chat) personally disagree with your video. FR
Wait but I thought the 2nd batch was already conscious, they just hid it from humans. I kind of wish they expanded on that more
Yeah, they are
Yeah, the creator mentioned in another comment that they weren't paying attention to the exposition, and fixed it
Yeah that's what happened
I think they’re cute and they make for a kind of more interesting world
honestly I disargree with abstracty "not having a personality" as you clearly see abstracty TRY to annoy moldy
When he said texty is Boring : I took that personally
My main qualms with ONE are with Abstracty and Taylor
Taylor was easily the least explored character of the main 6, even behind the baby tomato (Charlie?). The only background I remember her having is her name, no occupation, no location, nothing, she deserved so much better.
I understand why Abstracty was eliminated so quickly, but even they just felt like ominous for the sake of it, and while it was effective, they could have been better developed IMO.
With ONE episode left, I'd like to think that they would fix this, but my hopes are low
Update: they did not
After rewatching the series, I will say that Whippy Creamy does have a distinct personality, he just gets literally no focus so it’s hard to tell.
Watch my ONE short to see my response to this!
I think they could've done more with magazine, her being eliminated does make sense but also me sad.
is anyone gonna talk about that moldys asset is backwards
I feel like the world where everything is normal but people are objects is simply done that way because of animation the wonky humans that do appear in the show just wouldn't work well for the scenes in that world
Fun fact: Did you know that circle from one is from an object show called battle for circle also by cheesy hfj
also, quick theory about stone, you can see him touching his mouth, thus he might have had a mouth but airy took it away becasue he knew too much
Tldr: its the best show ever
nobody addresses these issues because they aren't ACTUAL ISSUES!
edit: opinions are subjective, and someone saying they don't like one doesn't mean I have to defend it actually seeing as you mean they get to much screen time, rather then "they're stupid and shouldn't exist" makes alot more sense. also the characters being objects with it taking itself so seriously, even though that makes no sense is something I think people who aren't in the OSC would think that about one, and people in the OSC (atleast MOST of them)
i think the reason these characters are sentient objects of a wide variety living these lives is because Isaac wanted to make the characters more diverse/distinct. In the world of ONE, no type of object is considered superior or bullied for what they are, and no type of object is considered unconventional.
I don't think the world *wanted* to be wacky
That's what makes the show more unique
That’s why the characters being objects made no sense. Making the characters objects is a wacky choice, but the rest of the show contrasts that wackiness by being completely serious. It’s a completely unnecessary choice that could have been easily avoided by just making the characters humans.
@@crystalcritique Right but Cheesy probably wanted to illutrate a world of where objects are the predominant species and combine them with a world where humans are
If it was all humans, Mappy wouldn't fly off of the stake, Scenty wouldn't shatter from falling e.t.c.
@@flatbreadjk those really aren’t pivotal plot points. The story isn’t ever actually helped by the fact that everyone is an object. They’re just little details that could have just been left out of the story and it would have been roughly the same
@@crystalcritique I like to think that if they were humans, the show would have made more sense to be unfair
Otherwise Cheesy broke the mold of object shows with this show
I have an answer to why all of ONE’s characters are objects. CAUSE ITS A FRICKIN OBJECT SHOW WHAT DO YOU THINK
What if they all are objects to show their personality?
For example
- Backpack is a character that takes a lot of emotion and thoughts into himself, he keeps everything as a secret to not burden any other people around him
- Soda bottle is easy going, light, and gets angry very easily.
@@crystalcritique that’s true, but I think him adding them and paying almost no attention to them afterwards would be a lil weird.
True. Like I said in the video, it would have been much better for the story if more of the characters were lifeless or creepy like Folder and Abstracty. That would have strengthened the show’s eerie atmosphere and it would have allowed the side characters to have taken less of a focus.
@@crystalcritique alright, I understand your point now
It is quite sad to think about what we could have had from Bassy. What makes it even worse, though, is that even if Cheesy didn’t eliminate her and found a way to give her more screen time, he simply couldn’t because bassy’s voice actor decided to quit.
2 questions:
1. Do you have any suggestions for an object show similar to ONE that has better execution?
2. What you rank ONE overall out of 10? (i.e. 5/10, 7/10)

I believe this also relates to your perception of the "extra" characters to but tbh I'm to tired to type another paragraph like that

(i am not going to spoil more than that lol, it's a secret :P)
It started as a story i was making out of my entries for a camp called BFTGF (it was really fun) but I decided that it would be better if i made it its own show.
But it had a lot of the worst of ONE's issues, and this video helped me improve it a lot. The camp entries' story is really bad. And the show was still bad in September when I made a trailer (the trailer was good, but everything else I had planned? not so much.)
This critique really helped me with my own show, I tried to avoid the issues listed in it which really helped me sort through my ideas.
Thank you :)

Season 1 is probably just setting the stage for the future.
nice little touch by playing scatterbrain while showing the clips from scatterbrain
I want a prequel to ONE
as it was revealed that we ARE seeing season two.
“being objects dosent add anything to our world”
why are we humans then?
Finally, the Isekai Genre hits the Object Shows
A wish I have for season two is that we get more character development for the others. I think they have a lot of potential, and it would be nice to be explored. I’m honestly really curious about texty, but I doubt they’ll get screen time. anyway I like all the guys and they should be explored more

A show
i feel like cheesy hfj uses this universe completely like real life to his advantage in season 2
But he didn’t give them consciousness.
They hide their sentience.

ONE Is like a piece of Modern Art.
one interesting thing from season two is that texty isn't from the human world - they're from the same world as the original 6, and that means that the inanimate objects "toy story" rule is just a universal constant which just seems hilarious to me
correction the objects in the human world already had consciousness it is stated in the show
Now i really wanna see an object show that has like around 16 humans teleported into an object show and they all become objects, it would be cool to see them desperately trying to return to their world and not liking/understanding their new object bodies, seeing humans that have been turned into objects and are forced to do a competition in order to return home would be cool, and if they're eliminated they're locked inside a metal box cause I always thought locking someone inside a box like BFDIA, and BFDI does is just dark and pretty much torture but everyone sees it as funny, so seeing humans humans are objects be eliminated and forced to stay inside a locked box forever would be dark, and make them even more desperate to win no matter if they lose their morals.
Holy crap I remember when i first found you when you did the tpot review, its really cool to see that you’re a lot bigger now!
... WHAT DOES ONE STAND FOR!??!?!?!
If there is ONE thing that I have learned in this video, it's that 7 ate 9
I feel like circle is the only Newbie that has good interactions with main contestants like moldy, scenty, and more
yeah, even though be came from a world where everyone was the same and really empty, its really cool to see how he's grown. (watch battle for circle for context)
@@Noblooz hello everyone and welcome to
*BATTLE FOR CIRCLE*
what Is one you ask? a number! *video ends*
I dont get why you hated the fact that the world thats like earth but with objects, if anything I love the juxtaposition of such a real world with object characters. Its almost like animated movies with animals, its a human world with non human characters.
honestky this really makes me appreciate ONE's improvement in its second season compared to season 1
The reason the 2nd batch of characters are lifeless are because they are in a word where they have to keep their life secret so they never really… interact
One 8 scared me
I felt a dent in me at the end
About the part around 9:30 - I thought that scene was pretty good actually.
By this time, everyone's been together for a couple months. Even the newer characters. You'd think they'd be close - but they're not.
The rest of the characters move into frame, and watch Liam from some distance away. Then, some time later. Amelia steps into frame, right next to Liam.
To me, this scenes shows just how different the first batches are from the second and third. No matter how long they've been together, Liam and Amelia will always be closer to each other than the other characters.
Loved your review though - ONE inspired to make my own show, and this video is helping me avoid some pitfalls (hopefully).
POV: he didn’t watch the 3 new episodes.
POV: I did
the reason why everyone is objects is bc ONE parodies object show tropes, also explains why the second batch of contestants are so bare bones
ONE has great writing and music
And everything else
I think most of the criticisms were improved upon in season 2, it's great.
Hmm
Come to think of it ONE has a lot in common with Squid Game
The ONE story make me cry 😭😭😭
If you play the song scatterbrain, it lines up with the things that happen! Like how the weather says it has hail, the song says hail! it’s a cool
Ikr, it's kinda freaky but cool!
Circle:crying in the corner
Spow is probably my new favorite song :]
10:23 - Actually the objects from that dimension already had consciousness, but just kept it hidden from the humans.
Why the second batch of objects are not really with character is well maybe not intentional but also they come from a world where they are just objects hiding from humans as objects. The third batch doesn't really have much backstory except circle with a mole
texty has a way bigger role in ONE S2
Very good video! Good points were made!
