For everyone who cannot get the aperture dial to work when set to "A" go into menu > wrench icon > button dial setting > aperture ring setting (A) and set it to 'command' instead of 'auto'
Hi there, for some reason, I still cant get command dial to change aperture after following the steps u mentioned, aperture icon is orange and not blue in color.
You just made my camera like 200% more usable for me. I have been so frustrated by the command dial settings and didn't know I had to set the Shutter ring to "T" and the ISO ring to "C". It's been driving me up the wall since I got the camera a few days ago. You sir are a true gem.
Thanks for the video. In addition you can also set the top dials to allow the command dials to switch between, P, A, S and M modes. For example, with the aperture ring set to A and Shutter ring to T, you're now in shutter priority mode when using the rear command dial. But switch to the front command dial to change aperture and you're in manual mode. Now change the shutter ring to A. You're in aperture priority mode and can use the front command dial to change aperture. Go past f16 on the dial and you're suddenly at f2 in P mode. Brilliant!
A on aperture and T on s.s have been the missing values for me, so i have to thank you a lot for this clarifying video. Perfect moment and very good explained.
Another great video. So easy to watch and follow. Tone, content, pacing, illustrative manner of walking us through the key concepts - all top! You're a one-man photo academy. Thanks! 📸🙏🏆
Thank you Jay for the clarification re Aperture in command mode. I thought there is something wrong with my camera when I could not change the aperture in command mode. You saved my day . Thanks again
Thanks, Jay, Your vids especially the earlier ones are like my bible for the X100V! This one was super helpful man 🙌🏼. Especially it will make the shooting on the street much quicker and spontaneous
thanks Jay finally I can drink a beer while taking pictures! 😆 EInhandbedienung is mega important in streetphotography. if you have to fumble around with your camera for a long time the moment is gone.
Thank you for the clarification - helped a lot! Maybe you can talk a little bit about exposing for highlights / shadows ? Like how to maybe use exposure compensation to just have the highlights up (and the rest is dark) ?
great video. is there a way I can Reverse the direction of the dial? ie spin right to decrease shutter speed with in manual mode....can't seem to be able to locate that setting...
For some reason, even though I have my aperture ring to A, I still can't control the aperture using the command dial. Do you know why that may be the case? Thanks for another super helpful vid!
Hi Jay. I cannot understand how to get into full manual mode using front and rear command dials! I am on T on top dial and A on aperture ring and have front dial set for F then iso then none as I don’t use exp comp in manual. But the front command dial will only change iso not aperture and camera shows to be in shutter priority. Can you assist me to get into M mode but only using front and rear dials rather than having to use aperture ring on lens. Thank you.
@@adriancoleman1120 thanks Adrian but if I have the aperture ring set to A no matter what I do with the front and rear command dial I cannot get the camera to go into M mode. I know I must be doing something wrong but I can’t figure it out! I have the front command dial showing as F then ISO then NONE but it will only set up for ISO and not aperture.
Malcolm I missed this detail in my video, but go into menu > wrench icon > button dial setting > aperture ring setting (A) and set it to 'command' instead of 'auto'
@@JayRegular you are a star, this has been driving me mad 😡 Thank you so much for your help, all working as I want now using front and rear dials in M mode. 👍🏻
Dangit, so close, I can get the rear dial to control shutter speed and the front to cycle between exposure compensation and iso but the aperture even with the front rotater ring set on A doesn't let me access the F stop; instead of showing up in blue, mine is in orange and is pegged at 2.0. Wonder what I am missing. When I try to set the front command dial to Aperture in the menu, it just goes back to the screen and shows F...if I try to set it to shutter speed though it will go back and show SS. If I put the physical aperture wheel to a number, say 4, that shows up in blue on the screen but now the front command wheel does nothing. Very odd. I also as per page 228 of manual set aperture ring setting to 'command' from 'auto' and thought I would be golden, nope. edit -I think I now sorta have it - aperture ring to Command from on page 2 of the wrench menu, i put rear command dial to SS, put front dial to Aperture and then put options 2 and 3 to NONE. Then the command dial would work the aperture, then i added back iso and exposure comp and it works as you would expect. If you have anything else in option 2/3, it seems 1 wouldn't work for aperture control. One thing other thing - if you have your time ring set to to T, its like manual mode and there is no way to force an exposure compensation (which makes sense I guess). To be clear, if you lose control of ability to control aperture on the front command dial, make sure your front ring is set to A, wrench menu page 2 apeture ring is command and not auto, set functions 2 and 3 to none and 1 to aperture, then it works, THEN add back in iso/exp comp.
I have my ISO set to A my SS to T and my exposure compensation to C. The front dial has exposure compensation greyed out and will not work. Only works if I move SS from T to A
If you set your shutter speed to T you are still in control of your shutter speed with the back dial. For exposure compensation to work, you need to set shutter speed to auto to give camera full control in order to 'compensate' the exposure.
For everyone who cannot get the aperture dial to work when set to "A" go into menu > wrench icon > button dial setting > aperture ring setting (A) and set it to 'command' instead of 'auto'
That just saved my heart! Was having a heck of a time thanks

Thanks! it should work pretty similarly for that camera system

Hi my brother’s front command dial got stuck inside is there a way we can get it out ?
Take it to a to a Fujifilm service technician

I have issue in video mode. How to control over aperture and exposure compensation everything is forcefully set to auto for me in video mode.
I'll get around to addressing video features for cameras soon
I have my ISO set to A my SS to T and my exposure compensation to C. The front dial has exposure compensation greyed out and will not work. Only works if I move SS from T to A
Can you tell me what I’m doing wrong and why the exposure compensation is grayed out and won’t work with the setup i described?
If you set your shutter speed to T you are still in control of your shutter speed with the back dial. For exposure compensation to work, you need to set shutter speed to auto to give camera full control in order to 'compensate' the exposure.
