I know the feeling. Sally's style is like she pulled a dream out of your head and put it to film. The randomness, the chaotic, surrealistic feeling that makes you wonder if it's real or not. In my opinion I feel like this is the appeal of her work. To see it and then afterwards wonder if the experience was genuine or something you imagined. Which only draws you back to see it again and again and again.

Suddenly out of nowhere, I think "Above Below it All" and opened another tab, came here and found your work. I would've been around 7 when this aired, and I definitely remember it now. @dkallj4050 thanks. I did all the animating myself, then sent the drawings to a place in Canada for ink and paint. I was given great freedom with designing and animating- there was a Sesame Street bible which they checked things against but I don't recall having to make any changes. Wow! This reminds me of my early childhood but here in Australia, we didnt see this until about 1992/1993. I used to love this song when I was a child, so many found memories of getting home from primary school in the afternoon and Sesame Street would be on and myself and my younger siblings would watch it, and most of the time this was on we loved it!
I have been looking for this clip for years! It was my absolute favourite animation from Sesame Street when I was a child. Thank you so much for posting it!
Whoa. I was watching "Don't Go In the Basement" and suddenly was reminded of this (which I'd forgotten all about) and sure enough, here it is. Funny how memory comes and goes like that.
You know, this is a pretty unique concept to introduce to kids -- to appreciate how small humanity is on the cosmic scale of things -- and what a fun and kid-friendly way to present it: Using "above and below" as an analogy for the larger idea and putting it to a catchy song with vivid animation. Good one, Sesame Street! (Also, it was fun to stumble on this and find it was real, and not one of my childhood fever dreams. Nostalgia!)
My family moved to the States when I was ten, back in 1992. I barely spoke English and thus my school teacher let me watch Sesame Street instead of sitting blankly through morning classes. And this song.. was my favorite, even though I didn't get any of the lyrics except the 'I love to fly' part 😅 Yeah, that's how I found this video.

Alligator girl with flying fez is one of the best character ideas I've ever heard of, and you made her really cute.
The song can bring a tear to your eye.
This was my favorite sesame street video when I was a kid
One of my favorites! I thought I grew up watching that, but I must have watched it with my son, who was 3 at that time ;)
funny!
I've been searching for this clip for awhile! I'm so glad i finally found it. it gives me the goosebumps :) takes me back to kindergarten, eating bacon on the couch drinking juice outta my yellow dinosaur cup just b4 we walked to school. my day was complete if i saw this clip & ladybug picnic! im so happy to have the chance to say thank you Sally! you enhanced my childhood experience :)
I love. And miss it very Much please bring this back
I have been looking for this clip for years! It was my absolute favourite animation from Sesame Street when I was a child. Thank you so much for posting it!
One of my favorites. ^^
Whoa. I was watching "Don't Go In the Basement" and suddenly was reminded of this (which I'd forgotten all about) and sure enough, here it is. Funny how memory comes and goes like that.
Above It All. Miss those 80's.....
When I was a kid I could never wrap my head around why she was a crocodile.
That said, this is total eye candy for an animation geek like me! :D
This is such a wonderful message to read. It really affected me to read this. Wishing you all the best!
Nostalgia!)
Sally Cruikshank I love your art style.
Thanks Cory
My family moved to the States when I was ten, back in 1992. I barely spoke English and thus my school teacher let me watch Sesame Street instead of sitting blankly through morning classes. And this song.. was my favorite, even though I didn't get any of the lyrics except the 'I love to fly' part 😅 Yeah, that's how I found this video.
This is a wonderful story, thanks.
@@sallycruikshank I didn't know you replied to my comment! Why didn't RUclips give me any notification..! I came back here just to listen to this song again and discovered it by myself.
Sally, it is I who need to say thank you (which I forgot to say in my last comment) for creating this piece of art that will forever reside in memories of the happiest time of my life! 😄 Love from South Korea
@@RestRabbitRest Hello again and thanks!
KimNek, that's wild. Sometimes when I reread a book I haven't read in a long time I'll be astonished how it all comes back- all the junk our brains retain though we rarely touch it.
This is THE clip I couldn't wait to see with every episode of Sesame Street!! And you're the animator! Sally, this segment is one of my treasured and most inspiring memories, and I'm so glad that I get to thank you directly! :D Now that I'm going to school to animate, I can watch your work in a new light - but still feel the kid in me grinning away! Thank you so much!
The "Island of Emotion" video was recommended to me, and although it was cute, I didnt remember it because it was probably from the 90s..when I got too old for Sesame Street...but the characters reminded me of the flying alligator lady from this cartoon that I loved! I havent seen this in over 20 years and I think of it randomly but figured I'd never see it again! Your work is awesome Sally and thanks for posting!
Sally, did you also sing on this?
hahahahaha NO!!
