      None of these moments are as cringy as your complete ignorance of British vernacular. The “middle class” is what the British call the wealthiest, most privileged class, short of the royalty itself (which is the high class in that society). Why haven’t you corrected this video yet? You calling out Cate Blanchett for this is making you look like the fool.

      They're just people with skills that had more, a lot more luck, than the vast majority of them wants to admit or even realizes. When you get there it's really difficult to stay critical and fully rational about the variables that lead you there. They just rationalize it as "it was all my doing, my ability and my me being me is at least 60-70% and luck might be 5-10 at best. Which is not.
      That is what angers me the most of societies and World's inequality, the inability of admitting you got there due to randomness and therefore you should vastly contribute back to those who were less fortunate than you when you are in a position where you have so much money even a grand is basically worthless to your perception.

    Kylie Jenners kid standing in the bus was described as "taking it all in" and all i saw was a sad little girl who felt very much alone. The school bus experience is about riding with your friends and peers. Its about that little bit of independence between home where you do what you're told by parents, and school where you do what you're told by teachers. The school bus shes asking for isnt an empty shiny bus, its the experience of going to school with friends and feeling like them. The school bus is symbolic of a simpler sort of normalcy and her desire to feel connected. That little girl looked bummed out that there was no one to ride with her.

      Agree. Gwyneth IS pretty insufferable but yes, she was correct. And not knowing much about it, she overspent on things that 1) she was probably used to and 2) she probably didn't think were luxury items. And honestly? They SHOULDN'T be considered luxury items, but they are. (Shoot, a store I often go to to recently had a big bag of fresh cherries for about 60% off and I thought I'd hit a jackpot!)
      I also don't blame Bill Gates much. He wasn't trying to brag or or humble-brag. He genuinely didn't know the price of things. Shoot, my dad wasn't rich but since my mom did most of the grocery shopping after they stopped going to the military commissary together, he underestimated how much things actually cost, estimating them to be the price that they were, maybe a decade earlier, and couldn't understand why she was spending so much.

      The fact that her father thought that Stormi meant she was just curious to know about the physicality of “a schoolbus” instead of what it means to a kid, shows the mentality. The kid was curious to know about the normalcy of the kids inside the bus, where they are going, & what it feels like to be on it riding with a purpose. Thank heaven it proves that the kid at least has her mother’s brains. Her father is a Total Moron. They could’ve arranged for a ride for her on a regular schoolbus with kids & gave her what she was really looking for-and donated that money to an underprivileged school that he spent wasted on the mf schoolbus for a 3 yr old. But what does he really know about being a dad?

    I was in a car with the CEO of the place I work and a bunch of other CEOs from other companies once (i am a nobody that was there to answer weird questions)
    My CEO said something like "I don't understand why kids these days even have to get their drivers license with a manual car, you can barely buy them these days"
    In Sweden you almost always learn to drive with a manual, if you only learn with an automatic your drivers license says you arent even allowed to drive manual.
    I told the group that there are actually people who cant afford to buy a 2025 car and have to buy a Skoda from 1997 which may only exist as a manual.

      But in NA, you have always had more Automatics, you're right, I think that to at least have the knowledge on how to drive a manual is good, you never know when you may need it

Not all of it though, not even half. My jaw never dropped so hard as I realised most rich celebrities have no idea how they even got there, so many of them are born with privilege and barely 10% of celebrities worked from the bottom to the top.
    He was very shocked when I told him I’ve been solely financially responsible for myself since I was 15. And honestly more people relate to that than having started life with benefits. Also my biggest privilege growing up was having my own computer when I was 9, while his was having his own 2 en-suite bedrooms since he was 12.

Why would one person need 2 bedrooms though?? Makes no sense. I never made it to University so idk how that would've went. I can't imagine how anyone below 18 can support themselves- most jobs won't hire you, and most places won't rent to you.

    As a nurse who worked through the pandemic, many of these examples were new to me, and I found them difficult to watch. People were lucky to stay at home, make videos in the bath or sing virtually with their friends. Those who risked everything had no time to make videos and complain about being bored. Feeling sorry for themselves because they had nothing to do and felt trapped - little did they realize, that was their luxury.

    • @miriamrobarts
      @miriamrobarts 8 months ago +8

      Yeah, I have chronic illness & have to stay home in bed most of the time, so for me, Covid was pretty much life as usual & all these people were complaining about not going out, etc. And I'm thinking, you still have the internet, books, movies - it's not that big of a deal. I know video chats aren't the same as being together, but it really sounded like they've never been through any real challenges in their life. Plus, I believe if you're bored it's your own fault. You can always find things to do.
      But of course, everyone who really suffered financially or had loved ones die, & the healthcare workers went through a lot & it was very serious and difficult. However most of the ones complaining were about trivial things.
      But I thought the celebrities making a song or other videos was nice. If someone does something out of kindness, we should accept it in the spirit it's given.

They got the FAA version of the FIFA peace prize: recognition as having achieved human space flight. As much as I want to celebrate this as a win for women and tell the Trump admin to suck it (they were pretty vocal in rejecting Katy and Gayle), calling them astronauts is at best diluting the title and the profession. We often describe our social status based on our upbringing, regardless of how much money we have as adults. Cate Blanchett was brought up in a middle class household, in Australia, we describe ourselves as being of a certain class based on our upbringing. She wasn't out of touch, she was being Australian.

      She was being totally correct, class isn't just about money it's about breeding and I doubt the upper classes would count her as one of them.

      No we don’t. Class is a British thing NOT Australian.

    Where was Drew Barrymore calling people on strike selfish for interrupting her film project ???

    • @soscruffy
      @soscruffy 7 months ago

      Sorry, my bad: a more accurate description here: Drew Barrymore faced criticism and backlash from the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and others for her decision to resume production of "The Drew Barrymore Show" during the 2023 writers' strike without the participation of WGA writers. This led to her being dropped as the host of the National Book Awards and sparked debate about her show's image and business practices. Ultimately, Barrymore reversed her decision and announced she would not bring the show back during the strike.

      Just to explain: in the Bahamas, a “cutter” (pronounced Cuttah) is a person you have a one-night-stand with.

    To be fair, Cate Blanchette grew up in a commonwealth country with a strong English cultural influence. Her use of “middle class” was, I think, used in the sense and manner the English use it. In which case - it was correct. It has nothing to do with her job or fame as an actress. Those things are covered by her phrase “I am privileged.”
    I am not often a big defender of celebrities, but in this case the WatchMojo criticism is misplaced due to their rather lazy understanding of what was actually being said.

      I thought the same, class and money aren’t the same thing, and people can be proud of coming from hard working class people.

      I thought that straight away. In the UK we have an ACTUAL class system. And if you're not born (or marry) into nobility or the periphery thereof, you will only ever be middle class at most.

      Absolutely spot on. I’m American and I even know that. Just watch a few clips from 8 out of 10 cats does Countdown, and you’ll figure that out real quick.
      You have to remember if you have royalty in your society, the highest class you can go is middle class.

      I think there's been a misunderstanding between you on this post/thread, Watch Mojo and Cate B.
      Cate didn't say (and this is KEY) middle class *BACKGROUND* 😖 Which made it seem as if she remains middle class, not appreciating her hierarchical progression.
      I come from a working class background, but now would likely be seen as middle class. However, working class would be my 'heritage' of sorts growing up 😅

      @ericvanvlandren8987 8 months ago +88

      No misunderstanding here. Cate sees herself as middle class now (and always) because she is not upper class. ie. aristocracy. Rich, yes. Famous, yes. Privileged, yes. But all of those can be part of being middle class. Whereas being upper class is, usually, by birth or marriage.

    12:17 Cate is saying middle class is not wrong in European standard. If she tell herself as upper class, she would be considered as a joke too as she is not a royal. It is subjective.

    That pissed me off. Granted that Anne Frank was a fan girl in her time as evidenced by her photo collection of actresses and royalty. I just don’t like how Bieber said it it was extremely disrespectful and obnoxious

    • @seeya205
      @seeya205 8 months ago +10

      A young girl would probably be a fan. Who knows! We don't know her so we can't say for sure. During hard times, many people use music as therapy.

      @seeya205what also gets me is Bieber assuming that Anne Frank would have been a fan of his. Like….what would point to this? We shouldn’t assume these things. It’s not disrespectful
