8 years in prison for killing 4 people by drinking & driving and going through a red light. That is a pathetic injustice to the victims. What the hell was wrong with the judge in this case?

Sadly, the sentence was made lighter because the other driver was also impaired and he pled guilty (which may have led to a lower charge such as negligent driving causing death or similar charge). Combining that the sentence is made lighter.

Only one victim. It was the 2 year old. The other drunk knew they were both drunk and should of never gotten in the car. The parents were stupid as fuck for not buckling their baby in the car seat. They wanted to wait until driving so far before crashing to buckle that baby in. Nah fuck that. There's only one victim that lost their lives that day.

    • @brittanymyers6124

Actually, depending if the drunk driver has a record or not, if he didn’t have a record then that sentence does fit. As sad as that is to say, the justice system is very fucked up in the United States. But the other driver was also impaired by doing math, so at the end of the day they were both at fault however way you look at it whether he ran the light or not neither of them should have been behind the wheel of a car. The baby was the only innocent one And depending on when the accident happened, car seats were different back in the day and some children could unbuckle themselves. That is why the mom was turned around and unbuckled because she was going to fix the baby who was not in the car seat properly which by unbuckling her self, she made a bad decision that ultimately killed her and her child

In Montana, there were ads about wearing a seatbelt. A grandfather and his granddaughter went for a ride in winter. The girl had a seatbelt on, but the grandfather did not. He hit a patch of ice and lost control. The granddaughter survived the crash itself, but she was killed because the grandfather was thrown around because he did not have a seatbelt on, and he hit the poor girl causing her to die.The ad was based on a true story.

The problem is that if the SUV driver had swerved to the left to avoid the motorcycle (especially on a curve), he would have ended up going the wrong way in the opposing lane(s) of traffic, and - unable to see around the curvature of the road - could have had a frontal collision with another vehicle. Worse, it’s at night, and a motorcycle can look like an ordinary motor vehicle with one burnt-out headlamp... until you’re right on top of it. I believe even a professional driver would have a hard time avoiding this collision once the bike went down and skidded into its path.

Motorcycle Tyres. Looking at the tyres in the video, you will see that they are BRAND NEW All tyres are treated with a substance which makes them look "polished".This is a preservative for the rubber when stored before being sold/used. They also have the little "wear" bobbles on them. (I always called them whiskers) When buying new tyres the salesman will tell you to stay at a slowish speed for at least 100 miles. This will get the tyres scrubbed in and safer to go a bit fast..As it happens, that type of motorbike is NOT designed to "lean" into corners/bends. There is very little space between the undercarriage of the bike and the road. Probably 6-8 inches at a guess?
As a matter of interest, the contact area of a tyre on the road is no larger than the sole part of a shoe/boot.(Hopefully a boot!)
Unless it was proven that the tyres had actually been treated with a substance by the rider to make them look shiny, I don't believe that they were.

When there is an aviation accident, there is a long investigation to find out exactly what happened. Once the cause is found, the NTSB makes recommendations for changes in the laws that govern aviation, in the hope of preventing the cause of that kind of accident. If those changes are made aviation becomes that much safer.
Changes have been made in pilot training, aircraft design and maintenance, how air traffic is managed on the ground and in the air. As a result, something that is, on the face of it very dangerous (hurtling through the air at hundreds of miles per hour) is in fact, the safest way to travel.
We could do the same for driving, but we hardly ever do. What is the point of investigating traffic accidents if we won't make changes to the law to make driving safer?
Granted, if those changes are made, 15%-20% of driver will no longer be able to qualify for a driver's license, but these are the worst 20% of drivers out there. Do you *REALLY* want to keep letting them drive?
I'm talking about those people who text while driving, drive drunk, or fly into a rage because someone cut them off.

    • @inkyguy
      @inkyguy 4 года назад

Eric Taylor, unlike air accidents, most road accidents are caused by operator error. Since most drivers (something like 80%) consider themselves to be above average drivers, whch is a statistical and logical impossibility, I suspect there is no political will to implement the kind of road safety and vehicle training to make a difference in operator behavior. You can’t even get Americans to agree to be required to carry health insurance so everyone can be insured. There is virtually no way citizens would tolerate a regulatory regime that would improve road safety.

To be absolutely fair, they HAVE done certain things to combat drunk driving / texting while driving, maybe not so much road rage yet but the other two absolutely. The changes weren't implemented via requiring certain new things - because HOW can additional training / laws really prevent this? It simply can't without so much intrusion that it's not worth it. They have added texting and driving laws in nearly every state, and in VA it is illegal to even hold your phone while driving with a few exceptions (mostly GPS-related). But what they HAVE done is educate and focus on these issues. When drunk driving crashes spiked, we began advertising TV commercials, putting the dangers of drunk driving in education classes, and more, it's all over, and in turn, drunk driving crashes began to go down. They are doing the same thing with texting and driving - signs are everywhere, it's advertised not to do it, and they hammer it in your head not to do it in schools. As such, the rates have went down.

    • @WildWombats
      @WildWombats 4 года назад

@@erictaylor5462 I disagree with that very strongly... Weather is literally to blame in many airplane crashes. Arguably, you could put the blame on the pilot for deciding to fly that day....but hindsight 20/20, it's easy to go back on somebody's decision and say "Well he shouldn't have flown that day" after it's all said and done, but he obviously felt at the time that it was safe enough to go, for example. The fact is, mistakes happen and are part of human nature - and all of nature, because NOTHING is perfect. To dismiss something as an accident simply because 100% of everything was not perfect, to me, is a bit unfair, because not even a machine could live up to those standards. Accidents DO happen, even when mistakes are involved, because humans ARE prone to mistakes. And when you're talking about making a split-moment judgment call where you only get a few seconds to decide the fate of your life or potentially others...That's quite unfair to say "Well they should have done the RIGHT thing and turned LEFT instead or RIGHT" when, under that kind of pressure, some people would just freeze entirely...
Personally, I think intention is what decides if it's an accident. Did they INTEND to crash? If so, then no, it's not an accident. But if it's not intended, then it's an accident. Otherwise, what do you call a car crash / plane crash? It certainly isn't a kamikaze. The reason we call it an accident even when a human makes a mistake that could be preventable is because we UNDERSTAND that humans are flawed and it's IMPOSSIBLE no matter how much you try to be perfect in every way. To say "no such thing as an accident" - I could only agree with that statement if Humans were *normally* perfect 24/7 - but the fact is, humans are NOT normally perfect, we are imperfect and we make wrong calls and have lapses in judgment - it's the human condition, but really, it affects everything and everyone, because nothing is perfect.

After the Titanic struck the ice burg they did something about the ship flooding. They turned on pumps to full power and closed doors isolating the flooding sections of the ship.
But this was not enough to prevent the ship sinking.
Granted, they could not have done more at the time, but after that disaster, they did do more. They improved ship design to prevent over topping of the water tight compartments, and they added more pumps. In addition, they changed the laws requiring enough lifeboats for all passengers and crew.
"The changes weren't implemented via requiring certain new things - because HOW can additional training / laws really prevent this? It simply can't without so much intrusion that it's not worth it."
Yes, they are. There is a lot more that can be done. First, improve driver training. Require new drivers to receive training from professional teachers. This will prevent parents teaching their kids their own bad habits.
On top of this, require practical driving tests even for experienced drivers to spot and correct bad habits.
Next, improve the laws to revoke the license of the worst drivers. Make the drunk driving laws much more harsh to keep drunk drivers off the road permanently.
This woman got 10 years in prison for her *SECOND* serious drunk driving accident where 2 people were left permanently disabled.
In her first accident she *KILLED* someone and got only 2 years.
If she had gotten 10 years for the first accident *AND* was never allowed to drive again, those two people would not have been hurt.
How can that not be worth it?
Accidents are going to happen. That is just a fact of life, but most accident can be prevented if more care is taken. It doesn't matter if you intended to crash if you are being careless or reckless.
I'm sure this woman didn't intend to crash, but she certainly intended to drink and drive, and that is why she is guilty of a crime.

I'm not sure I agree with the "definitive" findings on the first one. The green light was green when the bulb was broken. However, it must have taken at least 2-3 seconds (perhaps more) for the collision to occur, the car to be pushed into the pole, and the top of the pole to fall to the ground and break. That makes it possible that the drunk driver actually entered the intersection when his light was yellow, or possibly even green depending on the length of the yellow at that intersection. I have seen MANY drivers "time" their entry into an intersection for the instant their light turns green, which is extremely dangerous, because it means you can be entering an intersection at 25-30 mph (just like the father), at the same time a car in the cross-traffic direction is in the intersection trying to beat the yellow. If you mis-time it (which is quite possible when driving sober, much less impaired), you might actually enter a split second before it actually turns green. In the situation in the video, Alex Rogers could actually have entered the intersection on the red, while Lowery had the yellow. However, by the time the collision occurred, the car was pushed into the pole, and the pole fell all the way to the ground, the light had turned to green. There's no excuse for driving drunk, and I'm glad Lowery faced punishment, but it's possible that it happened that way.

Killing both his wife & baby what a GREAT father & husband. What a disgusting example of a human being. His parents taught him well.............
I NEVER will understand how a parent can have so little LOVE & RESPECT for their children by refusing to make sure they are safe at ALL times when in a vehicle. Forget that it is ILLEGAL.
But ALL 4 Adults thought they were bullet proof & nothing would hurt them by refusing to buckle up. I have NO sympathy for Any of them or their families. Poor parenting all around. When kids know from DAY ONE that restraints are ALWAYS to been worn when in a vehicle they grow up automatically using correctly fitting restraints. My kids would even wear seats belts when driving around our ranch paddocks as do their children (who are all in High School) now. When my first baby was born in 1976, both my parents & 3 siblings vehicle ALL had baby seats in each vehicle for her (5 seats). We even took one baby seat when we flew to Calif in 1978 for a 6 week vacation. I was happy to take NO clothes (excess baggage) as long as my baby was safe while travelling.

@@SuperTamig preventable on one person's end... not preventable on another... thus an accident. Let's say you've got a seat belt on, you're going to the speed limit, you're doing EVERYTHING Right that the strictest driving instructor would say everything is fine. However, another car blazes through a red light as you're passing your green light and you're struck. While yes, the man who blazed through the red light had a driver error... It was totally and completely unavoidable for the driver who properly ran the green light and they did nothing wrong. On their end, surely you must consider it an accident, even if you consider the man who ran the red light not to be.
further... we are humans, not machines, we're not perfect and we make mistakes, and even if we were machines, we'd still make mistakes because NOTHING in this world is perfect. To say "it's preventable" I think that's simply not true in every single situation - we are prone to errors, this is human nature, to write that off as not being an accident because you expect total perfection at all times 24/7 during everybody's life is just insane. The reason it's an accident is because we understand nothing and nobody is perfect, and unless you're actively seeking to crash your car into something or someone, it's an accident.... Nobody goes out saying "Oh boy, I can't wait to crash my car!!!" If it's not accidental, then it's intentional, and I guarantee you most of these crashes are not intentional. So I find that simply incorrect. Accidents DO happen. And you CAN make a mistake / have a driver error and it still be an accident - because intentions mean everything. All you get is a few seconds to react sometimes (or less) - and you're saying because they couldn't immediately identify the best way to handle the situation in a high-stress situation, that it was avoidable had they done something else in those last few seconds? It's easier to say that in hindsight. When you're in the moment, it seemed like the best or only option to you at the time. Humans make mistakes...and you can make mistakes and still call it an accident.

They said the sentence was lower due to the fact both of them were intoxicated during driving. Sadly, as a drunk driver, you're more likely to survive than everyone else and it always seems that the people who were drunk tend to survive, while everybody else dies. Tragic how that is.... it is because when you're drunk your body is more relaxed and loose and when you're sober, your muscles tighten up upon the crash and it worsens the damage. Being loose and relaxed is actually lifesaving, which is a tragedy that the drunk drivers are the ones who usually escape these situations alive. I think drunk driving should be taken more seriously than it is. He should have served longer though still...

The car you see driving in scenes before hand, during their demonstration video, are just another car that is close enough. Instead of spending forever finding the exact model car, they just get a similar color and shape car to act in the place of the actual car. They likely don't actually crash that car either, just pretend. They do crash cars, but the ones they crash are in the large empty lot, during day time, with monitoring equipment.

People do the same thing today as they did 10 years ago and they still don't learn or don't want to listen. I've seen people get on a motorcycle for the first time right after buying it right on the premises of the store and got killed because I lost control of the motorcycle they had no experience and panicked and ended up dead right in front of everyone. That's why I'm glad in some states it's mandatory to go to a motorcycle school which is taught by professionals. Traci's Tube It depends on the type of car you have, and the type of baby seat. The middle seat is the safest.

Great to see parents that believe their 2 year old daughter doesn't need to correctly strapped in her seat and haven't taught her that the straps are NOT to be taken OFF her shoulders (as well as being tight enough that she can't remove them. If Amy was not sitting & strapped in the seat & playing up, why didn't they STOP & MOM get in the back (seat belted in appropriately??? So the stupid Dad would be able to give 100% of his attention to driving safely. Children with competent parents have taught their children by 12 mths that seat belts straps are not to be played with or removed. Gotta be amazed that parents FAIL to LOVE their children enough to make sure they are safe at ALL times when in a Motor vehicle. Have no sympathy for these parents at all. Hope all their family members have learned a HUGE lesson from their deaths, so at least some good happens as a result their stupidity.

Just because you teach a baby to leave the straps alone that doesn't mean they will. Children are egocentric and will do what is more comfortable for them. Most kids I know have figured out how to get out of their car seat.

FYI: The "Baby on Board" stickers put on cars are not so people will drive carefully, it's so rescue workers know to look for a small child near the scene; like here.
